When you consider he used to be a very good right winger and could beat anyone, id say he's worse on the ball than smallingNot been brilliant, but it was never going to be and we've got the all important goal.

Of course, but it's refreshing to see the final move of our attack rely a lot more on the end product of the winger rather than the full back..Lukaku's header (with a brilliant assist from Matic) and a fine Romero save are highlights of the 1st half. I rate Mctominay too. He does the basic things simply and looks very athletic with good engine and attitude.So many problems in defense, No one can bring ball forward, full backs cant attack, shaw is rusty or maybe permanently rusty. Think you hit the nail on the head with this fear of doing wrong thing. We have gotten so used to teams maintaining possession that if he went gung-ho all the time, and failed 50%, we'd notice and criticize those failures, and not the good chanches he'd create with the other 50%.Scott seems to be playing according to the occasion. The hell is this???Looked a bit hungover from Sevilla to begin with but once we got the goal we started popping it about a bit more. Personally it makes a huge difference to my enjoyment of the game when we start doing even simple things well, like 1 or 2 touch football and making the ball do the work, it doesn't always translate to great attacking play immediately but I think psychologically it makes a difference when you see your team moving the ball quicker instead of dwelling on it for that extra second or two that slows everything down. I think it also helps pick holes in the opposition because the ball is always moving so they have to keep adjusting even if you're not playing penetrating passes

He's lost the ball 2 or 3 times and made one mis-timed challenge, he's made interceptions, a great challenge, recovered the ball with two attackers on his back in front of his own goal and played a composed ball to Tony. When he made that near post run with Smalling during one corner their whole defense was caught off guard (should do more of that as we generally struggle to clear the first man). Can't fault his performance tonight, he's been good.Not bad so far. All a bit lethargic, but the attackers are interacting much better than Tuesday. Mata makes a difference.
