His tactics were still pretty naive at Ajax — they just got away with it because of how superior their squad was to the rest of the league. I recall a tv interview going viral with Gullit calling out how wide open ten Hag’s Ajax midfield was but the side was well drilled enough to specifically play that way.
I guess he did have that one phenomenal CL season (where Ajax had managed to align their best squad since the 90s but still bottled against Spurs of all sides).

Garnacho doesn’t link up with anyone. This may be a hot take, but Garnacho is hugely overrated by United fans. Everytime he gets the ball he puts his head down and is looking to shoot.
