Must win game for me, Martial has to start if fit, if not Bruno false 9, have McFred and Sabitzer behind them.

Our midfield is incomplete without Casemiro AND Eriksen. The others are just not good enough at retaining the ball or playing through the lines.

For this reason I think we struggle as there is currently no one in the team in particularly good form.

I expect Brentford will follow the same long ball tactics that worked so well in the first game. Maybe Maguire will come in. They are going to be a huge threat on set pieces.

I have a feeling this will be easier than we expect.
That, of course, doesn't mean our recent form isn't worrying, but somehow I think we won't have troubles beating them.
Just leave Wout on the bench, please

I'm sincerely hoping I don't see WW name, preferably at all, but at least not in the starting line up

Reading the comments I simply can't imagine the state of this thread if the lineup comes up with WW and McT

Call me cocky but I think we will see a totally different performance if Martial starts. The first half vs Newcastle showed more clearly than ever that Weghorst is not only a problem individually but that he obstructs almost the entire team's ability to attack. Seems to be a worsening problem too.

    I'd like:
    DDG
    Dalot Varane Martinez Shaw
    Sabitzer
    Bruno Fred
    Antony Martial Rashford

    Hopefully it's this:

    de Gea
    AWB - Varane - Martinez - Shaw
    Sabitzer - Fred
    Antony - Bruno - Rashford
    Martial

Now we've hit a sticky patch I think Erik is suffering from having done incredibly well with this squad in such a short time and raising expectations so much. Folk seem to forget he's human after all and will make mistakes. He just makes fewer than most thankfully.

You'll rarely get more motivational reasons to win well with revenge for that 4-0 defeat, the poor show on Sunday and having been caught in the top 4 race but I really don't know what to expect tonight given our patchiness. Here's hoping it's and end to the scrappiness and three points anyway.

Hopefully we start well and don`t concede a silly early goal. We have a habit of doing it and we can be a right flaky outfit when the doubts kick in. We really need the win though and Brentford are a tough side to face when we have been struggling. Come on you Reds.

really need a win today for sure. Doubt we see martial start as he wants to ease martial back in. Just need to see something different and not trot out the same lineup/strategy yet again. Wish we had just spent the money of Felix and not worried about how dumb that deal was. Things would be so much different at this stage had we done that. Couldve been money well spent

Can't see Brentford not scoring. They are so attack minded.

Just got to hope we can finish our chances tonight.

Hoping we can scrap a win. Really a must win game but it is't going to be easy by any means. Need Rashford to come up with the goods for us.

I'd play a high 3-4-3 with Varane, Martinez, Shaw as CB's. Malacia and AWB as wingbacks.

    Bruno and Fred/Sabitzer in midfield.

    Antony, Martial, Rashy up front.

Martinez and Shaw to assist the midfield in possession.

    I'm great. This is easy.

Brentford are such a good pressing team, giving teams no space. We are in danger of being completely overrun. Malacia and AWB should play. Fred needs to start and Bruno needs to play as 10

Great idea, play a new system we have never played, move AWB to a wing back position - Great idea to get consistency

....but you think Sancho has? Come to think of it, who has? Those were Liverpool 0-7, Southampton 0-0 and Newcastle 0-2 - there's not a lot of glory to spread around, especially not among the attackers. I'd point quite a few places before pointing at Bruno.

Martial for Weghorst is the only plausible upgrade we have. If Garnacho was healthy, he'd be an option for Rashford. Sancho, who hasn't delivered a good performance as a starter since early season is just to grasp at straws, whether it's for Rashford or Bruno.

I didnt say that did I.

I know Sancho hasnt performed well lately, i'd just like to see him in the 10 position instead of Bruno for one game, that's all.

It isnt about consistency now though, we need to hold on until Casemiro and Eriksen are back.

Also, we have played such a system. If not, if was a 3412 instead of a 343.

Should be beating poor little Brentford. Brighton fecking battered them on Saturday, but they had 2 or 3 moments and scored from them.

This is probably going to be a struggle, I think a 2-2 draw.

It's literally about being consistent and it was something ETH mentioned in his presser yesterday, it's about finding a way to cope without those players rather than change the system. When did we play with 3 at the back? Perhaps I am not remembering

Rashford and Bruno are the only players that get goals and assists though.

27 goals for Rashy plus 4 assists I believe.
Bruno has 10 goals and 9 assists I think.

They are a long way ahead of the player in 3rd for attacking output.

Are we really good enough to drop either of them? We aren't are we? The other players just aren't good enough including Sancho.

This is why we suffer burnout because our squad players just aren't good enough.

What are the stats like per minute, out of interest (assuming you have them)?

Don't have them to hand but I think I remember that Martial and Garnacho score highly in that regard.

Rashford up there too given he's got over 30 contributions already in all comps. Bruno bit further behind.

What's the way to cope then?

It's clear that we don't have a midfield capable of playing with 4 forwards offering little to no support, so just tell them to do better?

Either you change the role of our attackers or you put more men into midfield.

Our midfield is so woeful without Cas and Eriksen that I think it’s time ETH experiments with someone else. Maybe Shaw stepping in or even Martinez? We need to try something as McT and Sabitzer were ran through at ease on Sunday!

    DDG
AWB if fit, Varane, Martinez, Shaw
    McTominay, Fred, Sabitzer
    Fernandes, Martial, Rashford

Just wonder how many assists Eriksen would have been on by now had he not been scuppered by the Neanderthal from the land that time forgot?

Fulham 3-1 (after multiple red cards but losing badly before that)

Sancho would have scored to make it 1-1 and we had grew back into the game, momentum would have been on our side and we probably would have gotten another. So no I disagree that it was because of the multiple reds, sure those helped but it wasn't like Sancho was brought down in the box before shooting, his shot was going in and Willian stopped it with his arm.

Really hope Martial can stay fit for the rest of the season. Needs to start tonight Can move Rashford to ST and Sancho to LW later on if Martial isn't ready to play a full match. Weghorst has jut become a stumbling block for us, offers nothing really but pressing. I think it was telling in the game against Leeds where ETH moved him to the #10, brought Garnacho on and moved Rashford to ST and Bruno to RW and we scored 2 within 20 minutes.

win here and 10 points ahead of Liverpool with 10 games to go - thats a decent gap to them.

Just win and I dont care how

Whats this, the 'We finished above Liverpool' cup?

Forget Liverpool, they are well off it. They might win the odd game but they will not suddenly break into form. That team is back to being normal.

We need to worry more about those around us - Spurs, Newcastle, Brighton.

Not expecting a good performance but what matters most this time in the season in grinding out the three points and hopefully United can do that tonight against a team that was lost just once in their last 16 league games.
