I think they should start bringing in refs from abroad. That are happy to come here.

it’s absolutely ludicrous that we’ve got a ref in charge that supports a team thats challenging us.

Michael Oliver is openly a Newcastle fan and his bosses expect him to be impartial when reffing the teams around them? Someone make that make sense please?
Can clubs file a complaint about this sort of things?
    I mean its disgraceful.

We need a good win here to set up the last portion of this hectic season.

    DDG
    AWB Varane Martinez Shaw
    Sabitzer Fred
    Antony Bruno Rashford
    Martial

Sabitzer and Fred against Brentford? Please God no. Brentford will just ping high balls into midfield and win everything if we do that. Like they did in the reverse fixture when we had Fred and eriksen in midfield.

I would go same side but Mctom instead of sabitzer, like him or not we will need his Physically, aerial prowess and aggression in this one.

I would pick Heaton ahead of De Gea aswell could do with a keeper who will command his area with Brentfords known direct and physical strikers. But that probably won't happen.

That is not how I would describe McTominay at all, do we watch the same game? McTominay hides and offers nothing. Aerial prowess

Tom Heaton over De Gea as well.

He has been better at doing feck all!

In the very short time he was on as substitute, is it my imagination that he lost possession of the ball at least 3 times in succession? Wow.

Not every Utd game is on TV.

I remember the days when there was just ONE live game on a week. That’s one game live from all the games played in the country.

I think many fans nowadays would have very depressing lives if that was the case nowadays.
That’s a great story, were you paying £1000 a year for that one game a week?

If Marcus does not have his scoring boots on then we really do need Martial to hit the ground running as when it comes to goalscoring, Sancho, Antony and Wout fill me with no confidence whatsoever.

McTominay has many weaknesses. His aerial performance isnt one. In fact he is among the best midfielders in the world in the air. 95th percentile on Aerials won.

The fact we're worried about the ref against fecking Brentford says it all about how bad our form is.
There is basically no team in the PL that you'd be sure to walk over even the bottom ones. And Brentford been doing pretty well this season imo. It also depends on how much the refs and Var would like to feck us. For example if they decide to feck us as much as against Southampton then it's basically impossible for us to win.

Personally imo we would win this pretty comfortably. We don't have Casemiro but we'll play at home where we usually do pretty well this season. And under ETH so far we'd always bounce back after a bad result. Really hope Martial would start instead of WW.

Very difficult game, and with Everton scrapping away could be a very difficult week.

Need to control the midfield here, but who can do it? I’d put Fred in to win some tackles but he needs someone assured on the ball next to him, which is no one. I’d give Mainoo a go at this rate.

Let’s hope West Ham can get something off Newcastle and we pick up the points.

Ten Hag will start the same team. He did the same after the Liverpool game.

Concerning as Weghorst and McTominay should not be starting. Move Bruno to 10 and put Fred in.

The last three games have been relegation form. I have no confidence in the team at the moment and they don’t have it in themselves. This doesn’t feel like the match where they spring back into life. If it were any of the previous managers, this lull would last until the end of the season and the toxicity would increase. It’s now up to ETH to prove he is different.

If he starts McTominay I’m going to cry. I genuinely think his positioning makes it impossible to maintain control of a midfield at this level and is only of benefit when we are under the cosh.

We need to try Sabitzer and Fred. Cannot be any worse than Newcastle.

If we start Weghorst again then I'll begin to wonder if ETH is the man for the job after all. Surely Rashford in the centre, providing Martial isn't fit to start, with Sancho and Antony on either side and Bruno behind is better than starting with Weghorst - who is so far off the pace that it feels like we are down to 10 men from the start.

Will be another shocking game unfortunately. Theres just too much of a void in midfield.

The best we can hope for is to scrape it somehow.

Still not particularly concerned with top 4 for United. Spurs, Liverpool not up to it.

As highly as I rate Brighton I think top 4 is slim. Top 6 would be an amazing achievement though!

This has become such a big week for us now. Nothing other than 6pts will do. Don't care how we get them just win these games somehow. Then we should have our midfield back for Forest away.

Can't afford losing points at home if we want to secure TOP 4.
Fred & Martial in for todays game.

With the form Bruno and Rashford is in, I honestly don't expect us to score. We weren't close against Newcastle. I know it's inevitable, but going to feel ill when I see McTominay and Sabitzer in midfield. Where is Mainoo? His calm presence and ability on the ball would be great here, but maybe a bit too much pressure for a kid.

People going on about our midfield as if that is the excuse for us not possibly winning tonight. Is Brentford’s midfield thst amazing? Would you want to buy any of Brentford midfielders to make ours better? Just curious

Heading to tonight’s game so glad I don’t need to find a stream as tonight’s game isn’t on tv. I reckon there will be goals in this game and we do tend to bounce back well after a disappointing defeat in the previous game. If memory serves me correctly, the only time we have lost back to back games this season was in our first two games at the start of the season. I personally can’t see ETH making too many changes. Maybe one or two, max 3

    De Gea

    Dalot - Varane - Martinez - Shaw

    Sabitzer - Fred

    Antony - B.Fernandes - Rashford

    Martial

Butland, Lindelof, Maguire, Malacia, McTominay, Pellistri, Sancho, Elanga, Weghorst

    Manchester United 4-2 Brentford

The thing about this is that midfield is not just about individual quality, it's about having players with complementary strengths and weaknesses, it's about having a balanced unit.

For an incredibly stupid example: if you had a Bruno-De Bruyne-Musiala midfield, it would be cut through with ease by just about any half-decent team, even if none of their midfielders were anywhere near the individual quality of any of the three.

Our midfield's problem is that 1) no one other than Casemiro is adept at sitting in front of the back four and screening, 2) no one is capable of setting and controlling the tempo, maintaining possession under pressure. All our midfielders are better further forward, none of them are particularly press resistant, and two of them have a tendency to hide from the ball a bit.

Yes i get that and agree with it all but every game we play and get out fought and out run by supposedly inferior teams our players midfield quality gets brought up, mctominay is shit, Bruno is shit, Fred is shit, sabitzer is useless, if we lose it will be Erikson is too old, Casemiro is off the boil. It comes to a point when it must come down to something else when we are constantly out fought and out battled. Newcastle midfield had longstaff and Joellinton? You can’t tell me they are better either side of that midfield than anyone we could play there even if they did have a dedicated dm between them. I don’t know, I just think we rely too much on and blame player quality. Fair enough in the big games but not when we’re struggling against supposed lower teams.

edit to add, I think I’d be tempted to Atleast try fred at dm with Bruno/sabitzer and mctominay either side of him. Atleast something to stop losing this constant midfield battle while not having Erikson and Casemiro as a 2 there.

Oh . Have we got M. Oliver has the ref tonight?... bloody hell that's another handicapp.
I hope Eth has been working on a system that can work tonight... if WW starts and Mctom I'm going to start to panic a bit... if they do I'm hoping for a 0-0 at half time at best.

If you’re playing well it shouldn’t matter who the referee is. Yes there’s a lot of incompetence going around and we’ve been on the end of shite calls but we’ve been playing poorly for a good month or so now.

Time to get the finger out.

    Must win game.

    DDG

    Shaw
    Martinez
    Varane
    AWB

    Sabitzer
    Fred
    Bruno

    Rashford
    Martial
    Antony

That's the only correct line up, given current player form, for a must win game.

I better not see Wout or McTominay on the starting XI or I'll openly start doubting ETH's sanity.

I would try this team. We just have to change our midfield until Casemiro and Eriksen comes back.

Sancho yes. Bruno hasn't done anything in our last 3 pl games. I would go with this front 4

    Antony........Sancho ......... rashford
    .....................Martial...................

....but you think Sancho has? Come to think of it, who has? Those were Liverpool 0-7, Southampton 0-0 and Newcastle 0-2 - there's not a lot of glory to spread around, especially not among the attackers. I'd point quite a few places before pointing at Bruno.

Martial for Weghorst is the only plausible upgrade we have. If Garnacho was healthy, he'd be an option for Rashford. Sancho, who hasn't delivered a good performance as a starter since early season is just to grasp at straws, whether it's for Rashford or Bruno.

There are a lot of experts here great at pointing out who not to put in the line up.

Problem is, there are no viable alternatives.

I‘d go for McT and Sabitzer in midfield, Bruno at 10, Martial hopefully can start.

I wouldn't bet against McFred and WW all starting. Martial will injure himself in the warm up.
