wow...I think considering the turmoil of the last three seasons, it would be pretty magnificent actually.
When you look at United's overall history if isn't magnificent. We mocked Liverpool fans for gloating about their 'worthless treble' back in 2001 and you wouldn't swap these three trophies for a league title, even with a top-four finish thrown in.

But yeah, in light of the mess left by the awful Moyes and LVG eras it sounds pretty magnificent right now.

We mocked them then because we were winning better things like the real treble and back to back league titles.

If such a scenario should occur to us now, we would have had a better season than any other team in the league, including Chelsea.

Europa League + FA Cup + League Cup is a magnificent season. Liverpool's only got mocked because we had done the real Treble a couple of seasons earlier and football fans like to take the piss.

After Lverpool loss and with the next match day games including Arse and Pool play each others, we must use this for us and win our next game and take the chance for challenge those who above us in the table for a top four finish. We need to be in C.L no matter what we win this year that's Jose top thing in head I reckon.

If I was the manager I would go all out for the win here. Then 'rest' some players for Rostov away for them to be fresh against Chelsea and Rostov at home. By rest I mean give Fellaini, Darmian, Lingard, Rojo a chance to play instead of Herrera, Valencia, Mkhitaryan (if fit) and Bailly. Also, what's the latest news on Phil Jones?

March as a month will define our season. COME ON YOU REDS!

A must win - no excuses!

With the Scousers and Arsenal struggling we need to get ourselves in a good position before facing the other top 6 teams (excl. Scousers).

Bournemouth have been crap since the Arsenal turnaround. Conceded two in every game this year.

Should be a dominant home win, which hopefully gets our goal difference similar to Liverpool's or City (although I fully expect us to finish at least six points above Liverpool).

We mocked them for calling it a treble and gloating like it matched up with our 'real' treble. No-one's saying it's a magnificent season in comparison to our greatest heights, just that it would obviously be a magnificent outcome to this season, and a sign of even better things to come.

Also I know the Europa League doesn't have the same quality of opposition as the CL, but I still rate it as a very hard competition to win. The sheer number of knockout games you have to play, the travel, the huge variety of opponents all with different levels and styles and strategies, and the fact that for almost everyone in the competition it's their most important trophy, their Champions League. It's a real marathon.

With Liverpool and Arsenal playing each other and one or both dropping points, this is exactly the sort of weekend where we will frustratingly drop points.

    1-1 (Boruc MOTM)

Looking at our run-in of fixtures, playing all four of the top 4 (three away from home), it is absolutely imperative we pick up maximum points from our next five fixtures, looking at them in the post on page two.

I don't care how we do it, we just need maximum points as it'll both give us breathing space and massively dent the confidence of our rivals for top 4.

I still reckon we'll win fairly comfortably this weekend. Then onto the next one, 'Boro away, which I can see being a bit of a slog....

Correct. The 'Mickey Mouse treble' is a real achievement, it would be a great achievement for us this season and it was a great achievement for Liverpool when they did it. However it paled in comparison to our actual treble we bagged two years previously. That's why we laughed at the time; Liverpool fans called their achievement a 'treble' when we'd actually got the real thing.

    Next 5 league fixtures :

United: Bournemouth, Boro, West Brom, Everton, and Sunderland.

City: Sunderland, Stoke, Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea

Spurs: Everton, Palace, Southampton, Burnley, Swansea

Arsenal: Liverpool, West Brom, Man City, West Ham, Palace

    Liverpool:
Arsenal, Burnley, Man City, Everton, Bournemouth

Chelsea: West Ham, Stoke, Palace, Man City, Bournemouth

Both us and Chelsea should have a game in hand i believe....

I agree with @Brightonian's analysis here too. We need to win all of those games and get ahead of our rivals who play each other before our tough run just after these (made tougher by our City game in hand being played here too). Though the games against the current top five are great opportunities it isn't a stretch of the imagination to think we'll drop a few points, so getting into a good position beforehand will in all likelihood be key to us finishing in the top four.

As for the Bournemouth game itself, we should win it and really we must win it to seriously challenge those above us.

Agree. Winning three trophies in a season is brilliant however you look at it! There is no denying that EPL and CL are THE main trophies that everyone covets, but winning three cup competitions is no easy feat either. And EL is a trophy that we have never won before with the added bonus of CL qualification.
    Some fans are spoilt silly.

Look at Liverpool... one league cup in 11 years. At least we're winning trophies.

Now that Liverpool have lost , this is surely going to end 0-0 with Boruc having the game of his life and zlatan missing sitters from 3 yards out.

Exactly, despite how bad we've been recently, we've still won more than Liverpool have in the last 5 years. Klopp thought he was being clever by fielding crap teams in the cups and getting dumped out of both in a week when they're not even in Europe is pretty crap really.

I'm very thankful for where we are at the moment. This could still be an awesome season for us.

this is our chance to finally move into 5th. Does anybody know how many weeks we have been 6th? excluding the couple of hours we were 5th a few weeks back

114 days or somewhere around that figure.

    De Gea
    Valencia--Bailly--Smalling--Blind
    Herrera--Pogba
    Mata--Mkhitaryan--Martial
    Ibrahimovic

If no Miki then go 4-4-2 with Rash & Ibra up top.

If ever there was a must win game, this is it.

Bournemouth will attack us and we should be able to exposure their very average back four. The full-backs are good at going the other way, which leave the two centre backs isolates.

3-1 win. They will test our defence.

Chelsea: West Ham, Stoke, Palace, Man City, Bournemouth

Both us and Chelsea should have a game in hand i believe....

These next 5 games are absolutely crucial if we want to finish in the CL spots. If we're not in 4th at least by the end of this run I just can't see us getting it, because those last few games are tough.

We need to hope that Liverpool's poor form continues and the Liv-Ars-Chels run of games sees City stumble.

I'd rest Mikhi saturday even if fit and leave him out against Rostov away. Keep him for Chelsea in the cup and Rostov home if needed.

Looking at the fixtures, how close to the end of the season do we play Chelsea? Might they have wrapped up the PL by then and be 'on the beach' as they say?

United are paying for the sins of a previous life - probably committed by Fergie - by being condemned to 6th place forever. It's like one of those sci fi shows where whichever door you choose, you always find yourself back in the same room. :(

I do find it crazy that we have been the most in-form team in the league (CFC, excepted) for several weeks and we seem glued to 6th place.

For once, we're in a position to leap 3rd - 5th over a few games compared to being 2-3 games back of 5th.

They've been in terrible form and conceding goals for fun. They've conceded on average 2.85 goals per game since the beginning of 2017.

Nothing is for granted and we need to get out there and perform but this definitely a very winnable game.

I'd definitely start Zlatan here and look to possibly rest him for the game in Russia (have him on the bench if he is needed like the Blackburn game).

Mkhi's injury comes at a bit of an annoying time. No return date yet? Physioroom says no but I'm not sure how accurate they tend to be.

I think we need to give our key players much needed rest. Zlatan on the bench with Rashford leading the line. I wouldn't play Mhiki even if fit. Would probably keep him fresh for Rostov and Chelsea. Martial and Lingard and Mata should be good enough. We just need to score 2 goals and then slow the game down and prevent any more injuries, wear and tear due to strain and fatigue.

Anyone know if this is 10:30pm or 11:30pm AEST? Website says 10:30pm other sites say 11:30pm.

Should be a routine victory. Ibra is on fire and a few other players are showing a bit of promise, getting into better areas and taking players on (most notably Martial), which will hopefully lead to even more goals. Speaking of goals, Bournemouth leak them and we never seem to concede more than two any more, even if the opposition plays well. We should be hitting three or more here, it's about time we put four or five past a Premier League side.

We'll have had nearly a week off since the final victory, which is going to be rare from now on, so we've got to go full strength and march on. Although, we are pretty lucky in that we play early Saturday, early Thursday, late Monday in the next three games. The fixtures aren't going to be this kind for us (and usually haven't been previously). We can and should go very close to full strength in these three games, before taking the opportunity to rest a few when we play the second leg of the Europa tie.

    de Gea
    Valencia Smalling Bailly Blind
    Herrera Pogba
    Lingard Mata Martial
    Ibrahimovic
    ---
Romero; Rojo, Young; Carrick, Fellaini; Rooney, Rashford

Assuming Mkhitaryan will be out until around the Chelsea game (may train before the Rostov game), so we might see Lingard again, although it could be anyone from the bench bar I listed there bar Rojo. I just think we should go straight at Bournemouth with a bit of pace, adding Carrick, Fellaini or Rooney would slow our play down a little bit.

Yeah, sure. Let's rest our key players and see what happens :wenger:
