It's far too much to hope that LVG won't use Fellaini to screen in front of the defence, isn't it?

So hard to predict this one.
We don't what Liverpool is going to show up, and what United will show up.
The crowd will certainly be fired up for it, which will transmit to the players, but Liverpools defense is rubbish.
So could be a hell of game. I'll go 2:2, but wouldn't be surprised if we nicked it.

We were brilliant there last season. Dreaming...

Not being too pessimistic but does lightning strike twice in the same place?

Glad to learn Flopp declined Fergie, the John Lennon of football!
Makes it so much easier to dislike Flopp especially as he now sees everything through the lens of a Dipper. Moyes tried to turn us into Everton, Flopp would have bought Slippy and played The Beatles - a Scouse conspiracy - LOL!

Kinda raises my hopes in LVG who at least reminded them we're the bigger club and in 'transition', while they are still crap. Time to slap them with another reality check.:)

A win - LVG stays until end of season
Draw - LVG gets more time
Lose - LVG sacked in the next week or two
Lose badly - LVG sacked within 24hours

    Only my opinion of course.

Either way I'm always buzzing for the murderers and I can't wait! 1-2 United in my predictions.

We haven't lost against Liverpool in a while.

Hopefully we're not about to roll over and give them that win.

Come on United! The nerves are really kicking in now. I hate it but like it at the same time! And I really don't know why but I'm feeling optimistic for some reason. 1-2

So, which of our players are best at dealing intense pressing?

I'd say Herrera, Schweinsteiger and Mata. So play whoever is fit out of those three for sure.

Picking Liverpool off once they commit to the high press is crucial.

Would take a draw, as I never look forward to the Anfield game.

But looking at their potential lineup, it's breathtakingly average!

We need to start this game with a high intensity game plan and beat Liverpool at their own tactics. If we get the kick off we should aim for a "rugby style start" in which the ball is punted forward from the get go into one of their corners and chase it with our attacking players. We did this last year and I think it put us on the front foot for most of the game.

    And ours isn't?

We'll come out with pace and attack. Burn our legs out in the first 20 then revert to the philosophy.

If Liverpool play how they did against Arsenal, then I can't see us getting a result. Liverpool have been as poor as we have, but they've done well in the big games under Klopp. This is as big as games get for both sides, and we seem to have lost the big game factor that we had last season. Can't see us handling the non-stop pressing. Even Newcastle's pressing stopped us from getting a foot on the ball for long spells.

Their defence is there for the taking though, and the goalkeeper. But our balance between defence and attack is non-existent. Not confident we'll get a win, but I felt the same about the Anfield fixture last season, and we blew them away.

Nah, LVG's here until at least the end of the season. Not what we all wanna hear but there's no way they're going to sack him now if they didn't after his awful Christmas spell.

You are probably right, then they will moan about not being in the CL and the loss of revenue, when if they have any guts between the lot of them they could have nipped it in the bud.

I just hope if they do sack him, they don't leave it too late. He has to go by mid Feb, when we're probably down in 7th and still playing painful-to-watch football.

They will wait again until it is mathematically too late. Then bring Giggs in for a few games, then be scrabbling about for a new manager in the summer, then of course force Giggs on them. There is a pattern forming here.

I'm really hoping that we set up like this. Use Fellaini how we used him at the back end of last season. In my opinion, it will prove to be the right decision, especially as Liverpool like to press high up. One long pass, yes, long pass, and we could beat the press and possibly take out 3-4 Liverpool players, leaving us in very good areas of the pitch.

Didn't even Pep say that's how he beat the Dortmund press?

Yep, that's exactly how we used him last season at Anfield as well. Makes the move to the 4-2-3-1 type formation and using Fellaini deeper, even more strange.

    It's already too late.
If we were going to hire a new manager, he'd need 1 week to assess the squad and if he is going to buy 1-2 new players, he needs time in the January transfer window.
February is too late to get a new manager in and make a difference.

Gary Neville covered this a while ago on MNF after we beat City. It showed several times during the game where a switch from Demichelis from right to left would have led to Clyne 3 on 1 against Kolarov, Sterling and Aguero. City failed because they never really had the vision to see where the game was for them. That's why I think Fellaini might turn out to be key for United in this game if we don't handle him well. Having him there for any long switches in play might be the difference between exploiting our game and becoming victims of it.

The only thing to be wary of with that theory is that against Arsenal we ended up playing a 4-4-2 with Milner and Ibe as wingers. From what I remember most of Arsenal's chances came centrally not out wide because the space wasn't there. Would it be fair to say that United's game in your formation is in the wide areas? If so you might not find as much space as you think if we line up in a 4-4-2 again.

Switch Martial and Lingard around and that would be my team.

I think Fellaini can be a very useful outlet for us in this game. I think that's likely to be Van Gaal's game plan too.

Fellaini when well used allows the better players in the team to play, and would ruffle the Liverpool feathers in defense, especially Mignolet who seems genuinely terrified of crosses into the box.

The nonsense of playing him in a 2 man midfield exposes both him and his partner and simply doesnt work. Hopefully we've seen the last of it.

Giroud won 12/12 headers in the first half on Wednesday. Fellaini could (will) be a big thorn in our side.

    Goodness me, not this again!

If Basti can't make it, I hope it's the 433 of last season with Herrera and Fellaini in front of Schneiderlin as the DM.

    Hoping and praying for:

    De Gea
    Varela Smalling Blind Darmian
    Schneiderlin Herrera
    Mata Rooney Young
    Martial
    0-2 to us.
