I'd go with that. Keep Lingard and Shaw wide. Hope they've the games of their lives. There's enough intelligence, trickery up front to create one or 2 big chances. Have to keep it tight no matter what.

This should be treated as a cup final. Leave absolutely everything out on that f**king pitch. If we win this, we have a chance at top 4.

As if playing Liverpool away wasn't bad enough, we also have to overcome Atkinson's "refereeing".

Sit back, 11 behind the ball, every chance we get hoof the ball over the Anfield stands.

Hopefully they'll run out of balls.

That's not a bad tactic. Any referees around here? Could a player be booked for kicking the ball into touch?

    If no Fred/McTominay I’d go 343

    Dave
    Lindelof - Varane - Maguire
    Elanga - Matic - Bruno - Telles
    Mata - Ronaldo - Sancho

We should stick every cnut behind the ball and just make it as awkward as possible for them to break us down. We'd probably actually get better chances on the break that way too.

Rangnick will likely try going blow for blow with them and get picked off easily though.

Norwich scored 2 against us. If we park the bus theyll score eventually. We can’t defend.

Norwich scored 2 against us. If we park the bus theyll score eventually. We can’t defend.
If we open up it'll be another cricket score. Realistically we're getting beaten either way because we're fundamentally shit but we can at least make them work for it.

You know on Planet Earth there was that scene where the seal is swimming along, and a great white shark jumps out, lifting the seal with it and then ripping it to shreds?

That's what's going to happen to us.

Only hope is Klopp plays the reserve team which should keep it from becoming a cricket score.

I can never remember being so pessimistic before a Liverpool / United game. It’s down to this bunch of players, you just can’t see them digging in and scrapping for their lives.

Got to be a park the bus type performance of the highest Mourinho quality and hit them on the counter but only ever allowing 3 players to cross the half way line at any one time. If they get the first goal it’s all over, I’d give us 1% chance of coming from behind to beat them.
    ……………….….………..De Gea
    AWB…..Lindelof …Maguire…Bailey…Telles
    ………………..…….Matic……Pogba
    ……………………………Bruno
    ………………...Ronaldo….Sancho

Hardly a great park the bus team, I’d prefer not to play Pogba in CM but we have no one else fit who can sit in and just defend so needs are must!

We have got to change to a back 3/5 for this game. It’s our best hope. Try and stop there full backs and then there creativity is gone. I’d take a 0-0 right now but being massive underdogs might work in our favour, time for rangnick to show who the pressing master is… not seen anything from rangnick yet from a tactical point of view. Get mo Salah man marked like we’ve done before under mourinho I think.

It's weird, I always feel nervous before these games, but the nerves were more out of dreading losing a game we could or in most cases are expected to win.

Now I just feel nothing but acceptance, accepting we've already lost before a ball's kicked. Its an odd feeling but for once I don't feel nervous, just resigned to us losing. Even if we get utterly spanked it comes as no surprise, the 5-0 at OT really numbed me, and I don't expect anything from this pathetic group of players. Just want this game and season over with already.

    ----------------------------de Gea
    AWB----Maguire---Varane---Lindelof---Telles
    --------------Fred/McTom---Matic
    Dalot------------------------------------------------Sancho/Bruno
    ---------------------------Ronnie

I think that's it. Make sure our full backs aren't stranded high up the pitch with us being easily cut through from the sides, 3 central defenders to make sure there's at least two of them in position to defend, not least when Maguire goes on his surging runs, and to make up for Telles' poor defending and positional sense as there won't be much help in front of him regardless who we play there.

Elanga from the bench as fresh legs. I don't care if we make it an horrid game of football.

You need resilience and togetherness to pull of a result when the teams are having such different seasons. Which is normal for a bunch of professionals to have, but this team is different. They seem to be going through the motions and top 4/quadruple or not, I don't see that suddenly changing. It'll be the same old sloppy football > concede a goal > heads drop > gift 3 points away

Shaw, Fred and McTominay will not be available.

I'd play Matic and Bruno at the base of the midfield and tell Bruno his job is to play it simple and not bomb forward.

I'd have Pogba as a Ten behind Ronaldo and play Elanga and Sancho but ask them to man mark the Liverpool full backs

Just play a defensive team, 5 at the back and counter when we get the chance. Matic, Fred and Mctominay midfield if they are all available. Play Ronaldo and Bruno/Elanga/Rashford up top.

I don’t think we will have an embarrassing scoreline this game. But chances of winning are super low. I hope our players raise their games and shithouse our way to a win. But I don’t see that happening.

Edit - Just saw that Fred and Mctominay won’t be available. Okay, this might get embarrassing. I wouldn’t be surprised if Rangnick started Mata and Pogba as defensive midfielders. Good news is that the late kickoff means I’ll skip it likely.

    DDG

    AWB
    Jones
    Maguire
    Lindelof
    Telles

    Matic
    Pogba

    Sancho
    Bruno
    Rashford

Fairly depressing team but may at least give some solidity and a chance on the counter.

How does Liverpool generally perform against teams that plays with wingbacks? What is their way around it?

de Gea, Wan-Bissaka, Varane, Lindelöf, Telles; Matić, Pogba; Sancho, Fernandes, Rashford; Ronaldo.

There's a few out of form players here but I'd still say it's probably our best shot. Maguire will probably start ahead of Varane though.

Trying to figure out which defense will leak the least amount of goals. Telles was awful against Norwich. Do we bring AWB back and shift Dalot to LB? Play 3 at the back?

If the players care about the fans, they should be more motivated to stop Liverpool's chance to win quadruple by getting at least a point in this match. Of course, I highly doubt they care about us. Liverpool win quadruple won't hurt them at all but only the fans.
