Mkhi's lack of ball retention is a slight worry against their pressing, he only thrives when he is given time and space.

Good team. Would obviously have liked to seen Bailly but nothing we can do about that. Hope Smalling isnt "undercooked", he hasnt played much football this season.

Distribution from the back is going to be a concern today. Herrera will just keep giving the defenders the ball back so it's important matic gets the ball as often as possible.

I've got that nervous feeling before a match that I probably haven't had since Ferguson retired.

Me too. Feel pumped up for this one like I haven't been in a long time.

Maybe it's knowing the team is capable and being nervous about it failing to live up to its potential, whereas with previous managers there was a sense of inferiority and not expecting much.

Very much, doubt he'll be in the game. Hopefully as usual he gets his one brilliant assist.

Martial is going to have to carry the attack today. Time for him to show he's ready to do so

Just beat those twats please. Can't watch the game since the inconsiderable half of the family decided that this is the time to invite people to our sons birthdayparty. His birthday was the 4th of Oct FFS

Martial left Young right MkHitaryan in the middle behind Lukaku. This is what I wanted except Rash for Miki but got slaughtered for it
    So a back 4 of;

    Darmian
    Smalling
    Jones
    Valencia

Possible, but I find it unlikely as a 2 in midfield against Liverpool would leave us exposed.

    Mourinho explains his team selection
    Mourinho’s been speaking to Sky:

I don’t think we have many options. Fellaini injured in national team Eric Bailly injured in national team Marcus Rashford injured in national team. We don’t have many options so not much to think.

I'd say he isn't chuffed with international football.

I'm hoping that the Bailly injury will be a blessing in disguise. His highly aggressive defending style (which I love) may not be best suited to such a highly strung game where hysterical scousers are going to be screaming for a red card every time there's a foul.

    It’s 3-4-3.
Valencia and Young are wingbacks. 3 CBs, Matic/Herrera are CMs, Mkhi & Martial supporting Lukaku.

Could be 343 as well , but more likely 4231 as mkh will peg back their midfeild to give us space and time to our midfeild to come into play.

Their CBS are their weak area and I can see us exploring that with mkh in the middle to play off lukaku and get in behind.

Liverpool's weak points are definitely Moreno and Gomez. I can see Lukaku making runs in behind the space Moreno leaves when he bombs forward, and Gomez Vs Martial should be a no-contest.

Liverpool throw players forward, we won't be playing in front of them so he'll be fine.

I'd be extremely dissapointed if we lose. They are there to be beaten. Even a draw is a bit meh.

We must win if we want to be title contenders. City smashed these one-dimensional defenceless mugs after all.

But I fear the worst. Games like today's will determine if we are really ready to be title contenders. I don't think we are ready yet.

You'd rather lose than playing negative and win?

At the end of the 90 minutes, 3 points at a place like Anfield is all that matters to me.

I didn’t say that. I said that I don’t want us to park the bus in every tough fixture this season. We suck at it.

I also said that from an entertainment point of view, I’d rather lose 5-4 than 1-0 in the majority of games.

I’d gladly take a scrappy, flukey 1-0 win today though :D

Darmian, Herrera, Smalling and Young. Guys witg very little playing time this year - not good at all. Think this is going to be very hard. Every team would miss Pogba and Bailly.

Darmian in a back 3 over Lindeloff is pretty damning for the lad.

That's deliberate. No way they choose this date so far away from the real one and at the same time as the game.

I hope so but my gut says we will play crap and lose.

Salah is their only really dangerous player then. Get young to stick to him and we should be fine.

It's not even worrying to me that they can score (they probably will), because scoring against them has been easy for every side in the league so far. Derby means that might not be the same case though. They'll raise their game all round.

    Nerves now.

I see Martial starts. Thought he would tbh.

Young and valencia on the same side will put pressure on coutinho to defend as well or else we overlap them out wide so coutinho is not playing in advanced position near the goal threat.

Darmian I expect to keep defending. Salah likes to cut Inside and darmian is a right footed defender to nullify him.

Unless we are playing a 343.

I'm actually not able to enjoy these games, the high of a win is overshadowed by the absolute misery from a loss.

Mkhitaryan being pressed seems a potential disaster to me. Would have started Mata.

Smalling played the last 2 games. Herrera have played as well and Young have played lots of games. Strange one is Darmian since he have not played much at all. More worried about our bench to be honest.

I'm quite surprised to see Miki. He takes a lot of risks and loses the ball often, which is not something you really want to be doing against this Liverpool counter attacking team.
