    As a Liverpool fan and as someone who isn't a regular poster but more of a lurker on here can I just say I love this site. I mean the level of football discussion provided is fantastic to read but sometimes the utter bitterness and hate :lol: (mostly towards Liverpool, Quelle surprise!) makes me laugh.. But overall I don't go a day without coming on here so thats a credit to the guys who run it etc...

    In regards to this match, Well I think it's imperative that Manchester United drop points from a Liverpool point of view because After the last round of matches and more importantly the transfer window I think that We will struggle to get a top 4 place, and you guys are our biggest competitors for top 4. I mean we can get it again, but that's going by the possibility that all our key players don't get injured and Sturridge is as clinical as last season. Even if Sturridge stays fit after he comes back well from his current injury, there's a chance he won't be as clinical as the previous season In terms of his goal scoring exploits and if he doesn't score as many goals as he did last season and even more so, then we will struggle to get top 4 whereas you lot have 3 of the best finishers in World football, i hate to say it but some Liverpool fans are underplaying how fecking important having these 3 strikers is. But we have the solace that Man utd's defence is extremely limited and shaky, despite our defence being that as well we have defenders who are used to the league unlike Rojo, Blind etc..

    Anyway this next match against Leicester means a lot because if you guys draw or lose, then It continues to give hope to the other smaller teams who you play that they can take points of you, and that's extremely important because if you guys end up smashing Leicester by 4/5 then the old fear factor will come back which could mean a lot of points being collected and with no champions league that'll be a worry for not only Liverpool but the likes of Arsenal as well (who've looked pretty average so far as well).

    some fair points... but if i were a pool fan i would concentrate on arsenal games more than united games... they look most likely to drop out of top 4 than anyone else from last years top 4 in my opinion. Blind isnt a defender btw...he is a defensive mid who can put a shift a LWB .

    The assumption that United have a shaky defense will be the reason we will make top 4 easily. Teams will come at us hoping to get the better of the defense, we will hit them on the counter. The funny is when they do come at us, they will realize the defense is not as shaky as they imagine. By then, it will be too late.

    Our defense is shaky at the moment, there is no denying that. When QPR attacked us we looked dodgy and ready to make a mistake at any moment. This is not saying we won't improve throughout the season but other teams can certainly do damage at the moment. I'm hoping Jones will stay fit and Rojo will slot in quickly. Also think Shaw will be good for us after a few games, who is very solid defensively.

    Exactly. This 'shaky' defense has stemmed from our injuries in the first few games. Shaw and Rafael are as good as any other Full backs in the league. Rojo is an Argentinian international and both Smalling and Jones are good when played at Center Back. I'd say we have one of the best defenses in the league when fit, and I'd back them to prove it this season.

    Nice to hear you lot have some praise for us. Didn't expect it from the bigger clubs

    Very important game against a dangerous opponent. The same team that started against QPR should start again with possibly only one or two changes at the back. I could see Evans and Blackett losing their spot to Shaw and Smalling, if the later are fit.

    I agree with this.

    Granted we haven't play any top side yet, but I still think that claim is exaggerated. Only Aston Villa have concede less in the first few games.

    They never, ever stay fit though.

    That last part reads like the fanfiction stuff you'd see on RAWK.

    Rojo is the better CB and Shaw would offer us more going forward from our left flank. Blackett has been very solid but he shouldn't be a starter if others are fit.

    Well Shaw isn't 100% yet and Blackett has been our best defender along with Jones. He deserves to play as he's done nothing wrong. He's defended well when needs be and he carries the ball like no other 20 year-old defender I've seen in a long time.

    Interesting stats I saw on the caf today that we've only conceded 3 goals compared to our top 4 rivals on 6+. As shaking as our defense is at times its not as bad as everyone is making it out to be, plus the defense was looking very confident against QPR since they actually have a midfield in front of them that want the ball, moving into space for the ball and most importantly a midfield that protects them.

    If we preform even half as good as last week with similar possession we won't concede many against the bottom half of the table and rightly so.

    You don't get rested for playing badly, you get dropped.

    But anyway we should go with our strongest. Falcao in for RvP and possibly Shaw in for Blackett or Rojo.

    Apparently we're playing Cardiff in a closed door friendly today so that should probably be more minutes for Falcao, Shaw etc.

    I thought it was pretty obvious that's what I was getting at. RVP's looked off the pace so far and hasn't done enough to deserve his place in the side. It should be picked on merit. Adnan would offer a lot more energy and creativity at the moment.

    Besides I don't believe we should be playing a number 10 behind two number 9s anyway. It wont work against decent sides. It should be one centre forward with two deeper forwards who can drop in to help the midfield. Adnan would bring the added bonus of being able to provide some decent attacking width on the right.

    Not having midweek (champions league) football is killing me already. I find that even though I love watching good football I'm not half as interested in watching other teams and my attention drifts easily. I watched most of the Munich- citeh match tonight and bit of arsenal- Dortmund last night but I can honestly say that I'd much rather be watching any other match involving United, even in a friendly!! What I'm really trying to say is I wish Sunday afternoon would hurry up already!!!

    I'd be gutted if he dropped Mata for Falcao - if he is to start...

    It has to be for RVP. Has looked nowhere near in his fitness/performance levels in the games so far... Hardly ever was involved in our fast build up/interchanges against QPR and if anything he got in the way a few times.

    XI:

    de Gea
    Rafael - Evans - Blackett - Rojo
    Blind
    Herrera - di Maria
    Mata
    van Persie - Rooney

    Subs: Lindegaard, Shaw, Fletcher, Valencia, Pereira, Januzaj, Falcao
    No need to change a winning side, especially as the team has had a seven day rest.

    I'd say Evans and van Persie are the only players whom their place should and will come under scrutiny. The former has had a poor season to date and looks like he constantly has a mistake in him including moments against QPR and the latter doesn't look a good fit for the system and struggling to hit peak form.

    I'd persist with van Persie, as I think there are more and more progressive signs each game and his movement and hold-up play improved from the match against Burnley, but if Jones and Smalling are available and in good enough condition, I would start one at the expense of Evans. This is going off the assumption that neither will be ready, but I can see Evans making a costly error sooner rather than later.

    As far as the rest of the team is concerned; Rafael was excellent and added much needed dynamism and intensity to our ride-hand side. Blackett is yet to really put a foot wrong, been steadily consistently and warrants a starting place over Evans. Rojo was very solid against QPR and struck up a good understanding with di Maria and Rooney on the left. While, Mata is in great goalscoring vein and it would be absurd to bench him at the moment.

    I expect Falcao and Shaw to really push for a starting berth over the coming weeks, but it won't hurt to slowly bed them in. It's an identical matchday squad to the last game and hopefully we can get some minutes from Pereira, but i don't expect this game to be a breeze like QPR was so I doubt it.

    I'll go for a slightly flattering 3-1 United.

    Would go with the same team, except maybe one change which could see Shaw starting in place of Blackett but the kid really deserves his place. So I'd go with same team, and introduce Falcao from the bench again.

    I think this is what will happen wither Perhaps Shaw and Falcao getting more game time than last week, especially Falcao (with Shaw playing in the reserves) so I'm going for the same starting lineup.

    I hope we don't pay too much respect with being away and stick with 4-4-2 diamond for teams which will need breaking down.

    Out of curiosity I wonder what our 3-4-1-2 counter-attacking formation would be assuming the same team. Maybe:

    =========DDG=========
    =====Evans Blind Blackett ====
    Rafael==Herera==Di Maria==Rojo
    =========Mata=========
    =====Rooney===RVP======

    (or Blind and Rojo swapping positions)

    I'd play:

    van Persie - Falcao
    Mata

    Di Maria - Blind - Herrera

    Shaw - Rojo - Evans - Rafael

    De Gea

    Providing Shaw is fit enough.

    Although I know there is no chance of Rooney being dropped, unfortunately, I want to see Falcao start though.

    With v Persie i'm sure LvG will be both pragmatic and supportive so i think he'll probably start but get pulled at half-time for Falcao if he doesn't look like scoring. The only real replacement for Evans we have is Smalling and i believe he's crocked right now. Otherwise unchanged i'd say. Shaw will probably get sub time as will Januzaj if Di Maria tires again. 1-3 but Utd need an early goal

    Have just been reading through their United match prediction thread on a Leicester forum and came across this beauty...

    "If we win i will start to believe in champions league qualification. However i dont think we will."

    I like Leicester City FC and their fans seem fairly reasonable on the whole, but after their good start this season I have a feeling they have a big dose of reality coming their way soon (not necessarily from us though!).

    Somebody started a thread about Europa League qualification the other day and the thread was filled with comments like 'Are you on drugs?' 'You don't think we can qualify for Champions League at least? Have a bit of ambition.' etc., so it's most likely just somebody continuing that joke on in another thread, unless that guy near overdosed on confidence after our first win and is actually that deluded

    Ah okay, could have been said in jest then I suppose. To be fair most of the replies in that thread were fair, just the odd one that seemed to be getting a bit carried away.

    i said it last season and i don't know whether people agreed or not,but our weak(almost non existent at times) midfield exposed our defence horribly and made them look weaker than they really were. Yes confidence was an issue and all that but if we had Blind for example we would not have been as exposed as we were... Before the signing of Blind i still maintained our defence was in a slightly better state that our midfield. We needed a CM before we needed a CB(not saying we didn't need one or that we are now okay in that position) just that CM was definitely priority

    Don't know why but I just feel this is going to be something like 4-2 where Leicester take the lead then we catch up

    If LVG changes the formation to a 3-5-2, :mad:

    I think Leicester are definitely capable of scoring, so I have them down for a goal. We should score 3, but I know that may be a bit optimistic. A 1-2 or 1-3 win will be sufficient. I'd like to see Falcao start for RvP, and maybe Shaw if fit (probably not). The rest of the team picks itself.

    This wait is really killing me here.. 7 days between each match!

    Less football is old school in a good way I reckon. I find I get really jaded with the amount of football these days and a nice gap between games allows plenty of time to start really looking forward to the next one.

    Well Shaw isn't 100% yet and Blackett has been our best defender along with Jones. He deserves to play as he's done nothing wrong. He's defended well when needs be and he carries the ball like no other 20 year-old defender I've seen in a long time.
    If you want to see a class defender look out for Liam Moore at Leicester's centre back (probably put the curse on him now - get your money on an owl goal lol) but i truly believe this young man will go on to be a great defender

    I've gone with 2-1. I think Leicester are far more likely than the other two to stay up and I back them to do so. We might play some nice stuff but they won't give us an inch and they will score. In the end though, I think our quality will win it.

    That sounds like a real hoot! :D Class bit of play from the lad, how old is he?

    I normally curse any player as soon as i praise them. or if i slate an opponents player they immediately score or do something amazing.

    he is 21, plays for England under 21's and has come on leaps and bounds last season. the thing that stands out most is his willingness to learn and work hard and put him body on the line

    Anyone know how we did against Cardiff in that closed door friendly? or who played.

    I don't he's strong, quick, positionally smart I'm far more worried about Captain Morgan

    i really rate him but still young and that is some forward line.....morgan will struggle if they get him turned round whereas Moore has the pace to combat that. COYB
