The wobbly lines, christ almighty :lol:

    the straight line here:

That's better - but still off a little. Look at the line of the box, should be parallel.

True. For the avoidance of doubt I'm blaming the twat who introduced VAR, the twats that support it and the twat's that want to pretend "It'll magically get better for reasons I've no interest in producing" - not the technology itself, which of course as no feelings at all.
The person who is operating the VAR and making the decision is the pillock. It's like computers, they are fine it is the people feeding the information in who aren't.

Who the feck drew those lines? This is supposed to be the top domestic cup competition ffs
Probably a West brom player after a night out in Barcelona. Only proves we'll still be talking about decisions despite VAR. If you have to look for potential errors for several minutes then in my view we're not talking about a major error.

Let's not let this VAR decision take away from the game being played, we've been shocking, if we play actual football these guys are here for the taking, lets go out and kill the game off, not limp into the next round with a similar first half performance

It's going to be difficult celebrating a goal now that it can be taken away shortly after.

The romance of football is a thing of the past.

why dont they just use sky or bt technology for gods sake. There is literally billions in english football and your telling me they cant get a decent system?

Its like they are fecking it up on purpose to say i told you so.

The NFL has great technology for var. It’s just the idiots working in football and outdated European sports technology that are responsible.

VAR was bad enough when the decisions were right because of the time it takes but I think this is the first time its overruled a perfectly legitimate goal. They need to give that goal to us. Does the system allow to overrule wrong decisions made by the VAR?

In the end, although it's marginal, it was indeed a correct decision.

Marginal calls would mean that the decision take by the ground ref to stand. Isnt that what VAR states now?. Only obvious decisions can be overruled....

    More on VAR
Swarbrick is down in London on VAR duty but can’t draw straight lines to judge offsides on and Paul Scholes and Robbie Savage aren’t happy.

Scholes said: ‘There’s no way you can say that’s offside, you can’t say they deserve a two goal lead but that’s not offside.’

That VAR decision was worse than we have been, which is some achievement!

Really shocking performance. Use of the ball has been poor. Matic has been Smalling level in possession: dwelling on it like a snail.

Shaw has made some decent runs from left back but nobody has run in front to give him options. He’s also defended quite badly. Though he ain’t alone in that.

Lukaku did well to take his chance but we’ve abandoned him besides that. Mata has done good when we’ve managed to get him in the game, which has been near to zero cos the midfield has been trash.

With the way we’ve given away and used the ball, we’d have been crucified against a better team.

In the end, although it's marginal, it was indeed a correct decision.

Was it bollocks, benefit still goes to attacker. Thats the standard rule they'll use for every game, VAR doesnt change that or you're using different rules across the competition

In the bad old days we've of said "Looked borderline, but good to see the advantage going to the attacker" and moved on with our lives.

Thank feck those days are over, eh?

VAR can do one but more upsetting is how tactically inept we are. How can Matic and Sanchez two massively experienced players not recognise the danger on the left. Heck if Shaw had that Keane mentality he’d have Sanchez by the throat screaming at him to get back. Also be side eyeing Matic telling him to get across and cover Sanchez

VAR needs binning immediately until they can come up with a system that works. The present one is a joke. VAR should be in every game or none at all. SHAMBLES

Mata is playing to the spirit of the game, keeping in line with the player. To start scrutinising something like the Mata goal in this manner then you need some 8k 200fps cameras and laser lines to call it accurate.

Like Scholesy said. it should be there to correct glaring errors. Mata was onside, he has to be given the benefit of the doubt.

Annoying thing as well is when the referee was delivering the verdict and doing a box shape with his fingers, I thought he was signaling a goal.

That's better - but still off a little. Look at the line of the box, should be parallel.
It's not parallel for the same reason the lines of the grass aren't parallel with the box line, even though they actually are in line with each other. Angles and the pitch looking smaller in the distance

a perfectly parallel line will still appear to be closer to edge far away from the camera because it's further away causing it to gap to be smaller in the picture
    Makes sense yep

Watch us get shafted now with another VAR for a huddrsfield goal and everyone will forget this one and say how VAR is working.

Biggest problem with using VAR with really tight offsides decisions is frame rate with really fast moving players. In the two pics going around 1 the players looks offsides marginally, the other looks onside. One is before the ball has been kicked the other is after the ball was released. There isn't a frame showing the exact moment the ball was released. So what frame do you use for the VAR decision?
