If you want to see Lindelof, it's almost certain that Smalling will partner him. It's been the case all season, and I don't expect it to change any time soon. He's the best able to cover for Lindelof's weaknesses. In fact, I guess you can turn that around and say that Lindelof may also be the best at covering for Smalling's weakness (lack of ability on the ball).
Mourinho probably bought Lindelof to replace Blind, who played this role to perfection with Smalling under LVG
