The front four (maybe even six) absolutely smashing Feyenoord could be massive in restructuring the way we play. A looser 4-3-3 with more pace and movement would just be so much better than the 4231 with have with the two plodders playing together as the front two.

Yeh perhaps I worded it wrong and your correct he won't be 'happy' per say but with Carrick he loves the club and he's never really been a player to kick up a fuss and cause a stir in the dressing room so I'm sure he's acting very professional about it. I do think he is intelligent enough to realise that he isn't going to be first choice any more though and I reckon the club will have informed him of that when he signed his 1 year deal. Perhaps could come on tonight anyway and hope to impress.
Yeah I think for now his role is to be a senior leader in the dressing room. He's usually a slow starter though, so I wouldn't count him out yet. Who knows, he could yet play a pivotal role in the later months of the season.

Yep he's still a quality player so that wouldn't surprise me even at his age. Wouldn't work unless we go 4-3-3 and drop Rooney though otherwise we would still be lacking pace and runners.

It only took a defeat for Mourinho to forget all about the ‘coming September I'll give minutes to every player’ thing.

Should've been more cynical in my prediction. Got De Gea instead of Romero, Bailly instead of Blind, and Pogba in, though.
    Playered who haven't played much:
    Darmian
    Smalling
    Rojo
    Schneiderlin
    Herrera
    Rashford

+ Martial who he is probably trying to get back into form. Seems like you are complaining over nothing

Really? Would be very surprised if Herrera is not the deepest of our midfielders.

Despite Herrera playing that pivot role once or twice this season, and to decent effect, I think Schneiderlin is a better choice as he actually built his reputation a bit more on that role, whereas Herrera is a bit further forward in midfield.

In general I also just don't feel like Herrera has those defensive instincts.. he's more naturally an offensive player. We'll see.

    Easy tiger.
After last season, we should learn our lesson that the Dutch clubs can beat us and that smashing a Dutch team is unlikely to happen.
We need to take each game at a time and with a bit of luck, we should go far in the EL.

For the record, I think we'll win this match by 1 or 2 goals, but I can also see us losing to these guys (just as we lost to PSV last season, in Holland).
My prediction: 2-0 win for us.

Its still so early in the season.

Injuries and lack of form will soon make it last man standing gets selected, as we saw last season in defence and attack at certain points.

Whichever which way, Carrick will get minimum of 25 appearances during this season.

I'm not saying we will, or even thinking we will, I'm just entertaining the positive afterthoughts of a said result.

That ageless, ugly, greasy haired nonsense Kuyt better not score against us again.

Did Michael Owen just call Herrera a defensive minded player? Proves that pundits are clueless at times!

I actually hate Paul Scholes as a pundit. Club legend but his voice grates on my eardrums now.

Have a lot of confidence in that line up. Lots of experience, but exceptional pace. Martial, Rashford and Pogba. Wow.

Feyenoord starting the season well I gather.
    Nice shoes, Jose.

Pogba and Martial on the left together in a 4-3-3 is the way forward no doubt.

Curious about what happens if Bailly or Smalling have an injury during the game, who would Mourinho pick: Rojo (Darmian to te leftback…), Fosu-Mensah, or Carrick?

Finally the midfield 3 i wanted to see.
Happy with the lineup, good to see Smalling and Darmian starting aswell.
    :)

    Good luck, lads

Will be interested to see Pogba in the CAM with Herrera and Schneiderlin playing behind him and Rashford and Martial in front. I think this could be really exciting.

Kind of a shame they've taken the feyenoord fans behind the goal away. Would have added to the rowdiness.

Clearly a proper 4-3-3 with Schneiderlin the deepest. Mourinho's pragmatism.
