Will be interesting to see how we line up, I'd imagine he'll want to go with a similar starting XI to the Brentford game given it performed well in the second half. It might be forced that he starts Mazraoui so soon, but he could also go with Lindelof. Probably Ugarte for Bruno, especially since it's an away game, but perhaps he wants to try Zirkzee behind Hojlund (if it was a weaker team at OT I could maybe see this). I'm just expecting:

    Onana
    Mazraoui De Ligt Martinez Dalot
    Casemiro Ugarte
    Garnacho Eriksen Rashford
    Hojlund

The interesting question for me is what if we play really well in midfield with a Casemiro/ Ugarte/ Eriksen three that completely dominates the ball and doesn't get played through - Will Ten Hag just revert to Bruno next game in the 10 or will he drop him/ move him to wing/ false 9 etc?

I’d be very surprised if we won here, but let’s see - hoping to be proved wrong

Malacia still not fit to be on the bench. I doubt we’ll see him before tbe internationals. We need a LB, simply put we need defenders with games coming every 3-4 days from November to January

Away game at a difficult ground against a team that have some good players that are seasoned professionals and a manager that can beat anyone in a one off game. We also have a horrible record vs them and currently in Europe in general. They e not lost in 7 at home this season.

Honestly I think we’re losing this sadly

I don't even have a bad feeling, but honestly this isn't a must win. Our remaining 5 games in the league phase are as easy as it gets, we can pick up more than enough points in those.

More than enough points for guaranteeing 9th-24th spot, definitely. But even 5 wins (and no guarantee we won't slip up somewhere and drop points) might not be enough for top 8 if we draw or lose here as well and have to recover from 2 or 3 points from first 3 games.

Not ideal, but not the end of the world, if we have to have 2 extra knockout games - but they could be against tricky opponents and, presumably, the top 8 teams avoid each other in the last 16 so we'd probably have a tougher opponent in that round if we have to go through the 9th-24th play off. With the away tie last. So I'd say it's quite important for a few reasons that we try as hard as we can to pick up enough points to claim top 8 spots.

It would be criminal to not qualify automatically from this league. We should by rights be outright favourites for the whole tournament but we're being managed by a clown who looks like he's lost the dressing room.

Yes. Bruno will play at 10 no matter what.

First of all, obviously we should try as hard as we can, I wasn't meaning to advocate against that

As for the bolded, it is funny because with the new format I have no real idea of how many points, even roughly, it will end up taking after 8 games for top8. That's also because I have no good knowledge of the individual teams, but I don't see many standout teams where I'd expect them to get 20-24 points from 8 games. 17 points might not be enough for top 8, but maybe it might?

Anyway, as you say, the net for progressing is cast wide with the playoff spots 9-24, and the playoff opponent might obviously be a little tricky, but it can't be too bad.

You say 'obviously', but plenty of people on the thread suggest rotating (by resting key players) in order to prioritise the next league game - as they do for most cup ties! That's not 'trying as hard as we can to win the match', but is something plenty of fans call for before most cup matches sadly.

You're right about the new format meaning the points total needed is tough to gauge, but I'd say if we lose / draw tomorrow and won our last 5 more winnable games, then 17/18 is probably right on the line as regards just sneaking in to the top 8 or just missing out. So we'd be pushing it close. That's why I think it is important that we pick up at least a point tomorrow - as the points we've dropped already mean we really can't afford to drop many more at all if we're to make the top 8.

Oh absolutely. Not to mention, getting 2 points from the first 3 games while expecting 15 points to follow in the next 5 games is a bit, well, optimistic. But then again, the opponents to come are not strong.

According to the United website, these midfielders are travelling

Midfielders: Casemiro, Christian Eriksen, Manuel Ugarte.
Yeah I just saw that as well.
I guess we know who starts. Although I wouldn't be that surprised to see someone like Amad play Bruno's role some of the match.

If fit this team basically picks itself now, but just when you think that ETH throws in a curved ball.
I think we will lose and it will put the pressure back on ETH, just wondering as De Light got a bang on the head against Brentford does that mean we lose him due to the head injury/concussion rules?

After Brentford, this team has found it's spark and Mou is struggling in Turkey, they conceded a poor equaliser in their last game, they arent that great currently, we've certainly turned a corner with alot more positively around the place, I feel like an easy win on the cards

I've gone for the same line-up. Fingers crossed.
Starting to get a little concerned at our growing injury list, though.

He didn't get a concussion so I doubt there will be a problem with his availability.

But didn't Garnacho start on the left and Rashford start on the right when they play together?

I've never been more sure of a loss in my life. There's too many factors like playing a Turkish side in Turkey, managed by Jose and feat an ex well liked player, last seasons DM who we didn't sign and Alan 'always hot against United' Maiximin.

Then again I always think we'll win and then we inevitably lose, so we might actually win if I think we'll lose even though I genuinely do think we'll lose.

Could be the game where we get to see Zirskee deployed in his actual position. Long term I think if he's going to have a United future he needs to be played in correct role as he's not a striker.

I'd imagine Amad will also play tonight as well.

I think this will be it.
But didn't Garnacho start on the left and Rashford start on the right when they play together?
Yeah, I fully expect them to rotate again during the match. Rashford's crossing is one of the things about him I think is underrated, as much as I've been harsh on him over the years (rightly so IMO). He can definitely deliver more quality balls into the box from the right - he has assisted both Garnacho and Hojlund previously whilst playing that side.

He's definitely a confidence player, he's doing much better this season and I think he can deliver on either side. I'd hope EtH says feel free to swap flanks and see which full back you get the beating of more.

I think this will be it.
But didn't Garnacho start on the left and Rashford start on the right when they play together?
It's actually been interesting how they've been used.

Up until Christmas last year it was always Garnacho on the left with Rashford on the right.
Then from Christmas up until the Brentford game on the weekend it's been Rashford on the left with Garnacho on the right.
Then against Brentford they swapped back to Garnacho being on the left and Rashford on the right.

Will be interesting whether the Brentford game was a one-off or if they will stick with that now. Considering it worked well, I expect we'll see it again.

Fred will have a field day against Casemiro and Eriksen. We still should have too much quality for these if we want to win this thing, or anything.
I think people fail to remember how Fred deals with intense pressing, bound to give away the ball in dangerous positions more than once

The type of game in europe which we should win as we are better all over the pitch but we wont.

    We'll go 1-0 and crumble.

Has anyone asked Jason Wilcox why Sofyan Amrabat had only three good performances last season?
