Whole season is like a mad wind-up. Can’t have nice things for more than 20 minutes.

I don't understand people saying that's not a red. That challenge is given as a red 9/10 times in 2023. Maybe you don't agree they should be reds, but they're given practically every time nowadays.

That "challenge" happens dozens of times a game when a player shields the ball from the opponent. It's never a red card, and certainly isn't given 9/10 times. Rashford was just unlucky that the guy got hurt.

Move his arm out the way? Are you watching the game?

He was hardly splaying his arms out, he was trying to jockey the defender and it was kicked up into his arms.

The fact Maguire got done for it when Varane didn’t is a joke. Varane clearly handballed it.

We’re a fecking man down at half time, in Europe, away from home, debatable officiating with savage commentating. We ain’t winning this.

Maguire had his arm raised, why? How many penalties has he given away in a similar situation?

    Who wants a boring 2-0

No thanks, that’s not the United way!

Dickheads love giving us all a heart attack.

We had another great twenty minutes or so at the start of the half. If we add up all the good spells this season we've nearly got a full ninety minutes now.

Oh two British former players defending a national treasure. That's surprising. And I probably can tackle better then scholes
    People allowed an opinion: Devilish
People not allowed an opinion: literally anyone from Britain.

I don’t want to shock you, but Manchester United are located in Manchester. You might want to find a non-British club to support?

Just think our season is at risk already without Thursday night football disrupting it. A full squad of fit players I might agree.
I understand but disagree. We should absolutely stay playing in Europe even if it's EL - gives us something else to focus on. There's no pint saving ourselves for the league when it looks like top four is far away.

The calls make some sense. They sock horribly, and could've been gotten away with, although the handball chaos would've been controversial if not called. But the red – even though it doesn't feel fair, and it kind of isn't – with the way reds are handed out, it is not a surprise the ref would consider it, and you can see him doubting even with the card in hand. Rashford is just trying to plant his feet in the turf to protect the ball, and very unluckily there is an ankle right there ready to be broken (also if unlucky). And those things are always a red. The ref would've been in trouble for not giving this red, so I don't really blame him for these vague rules. If UEFA or whatever makes it clear that a red should show CLEAR intent, it wouldn't be a red, and maybe a yellow for being rash (pun only 33% intended). But as it stands, these things have been reds for ages, and it's hard to call it a controversial call by the ref, even if everybody would understand it to be very fair at a yellow MAX.

Thierry Henry: "never a red card"
    Micah Richards: "terrible decision"
Jamie Carragher: "yellow card at most"

Whoever that referee is, he should demoted to the Conference League after tonight.

Draw v win makes little difference here anyway unless we beat Galatasaray, and they lose to Munich which isn’t happening yet.

Really? Where were the other 5 in this first half? It was a clear red.

When you shield the ball and your studs go into someone's ankle, that's given as a red. That definitely does not happen dozens of times a game.

That's a blatant red (in the current year) and I'm shocked at so many people saying it's not.

You know, when even Carragher can't believe that's a red card for Rashford, then something is very off.

Maguire had his arm raised, why? How many penalties has he given away in a similar situation?
He’s was about 0.5m from the ball. The guy has an agenda against him on here, for me, he’s not done anything by wrong there and he’s unlucky.

Varane, however, has fecked it there and handballed it MUCH more obviously than Maguire but the fact that it was called against Maguire gives you an insight into the quality of the officiating tonight.

All I am saying is that local players are treated differently in England then foreigners. You only have to read the grief the likes of Bruno and Ddg had/has

Thierry Henry played in britain once.

Has anyone got a German or Argentinian giving the opinion that it wasnt a red, perhaps a few on here might change their opinion then..

did Varane handball it too, not seen the replay
It hit his hand but it was very close to his body and the ref only blew after Maguire made the tackle, so I'd wager it was for Maguire's dumb hand-waving.
