Would be hilarious if Matic starts again.

    He'll.

Since it's Ole's first game in charege there won't be any major changes. He'll go with a routine lineup, something like this :

    DDG
    Dalot - Bailly - Smalling - Shaw
    Herrera - Matic - Pogba
    Lingard - Lukaku - Rashford

Won't be a surprise if Valenica or Young starts ahead of Dalot too.

Anyone expecting anything different is delusional imo. It's over the course of the season changes in the main lineup will start to occur.

He was unbelievably shite at Cardiff, which means most posters on here either must be too young to remember or have it mentally blocked out because of their soft sport for Ole. Personally I can only see this going one way. Caretaker manager sacked, replaced by caretakers assistant.

    Hater
Give me a nice 442 with Martial and Rashford up top and playing attacking football.

    Dinosaur

If Carrick is picking the side then I expect to see....

    DDG
    Valencia Bailly Lindelof Shaw/Young (Fitness)
    Herrera Pereira Pogba
    Mata Lukaku Rashford

Think he'll value Mata and Pereira quite highly as they will likely see the game in much the same way. Also reckon he'd use Valencia as experience at the back having played alongside him.

With McKenna having an input as well it might be possible to see one of Chong/Greenwood/Gomes on the bench if Martial isn't fit

    Dalot------Smalling-------Lindelof--------Shaw
    -----------------Herrera-------------------
    ----------Fred-------------Pogba-----------------

    -------------------Rashford-----------------------

Imagine the reaction when Valencia, Young, Matic, Fellaini and Lukaku are all named in the starting XI.

People expecting otherwise are in for a shock. Depends on how each one does in training.

Well obviously some (if not all) are going to play. The manager change won't change what players we have to select from.

All I want for Christmas is:

    Attack!
    Attack!
    Attack!

    C'mon United!

I don't think much will change for this game. Ole wont have spent enough time with the players although with the reports that Mourinho's sacking wasn't exactly a snap decision, he might have been told to make sure he watches all the recent United games. Either way Matic will start and Lukaku probably will too.

Hopefully the relief of Jose being gone will show in how we play.

First time I really look forward to a game this season! I hope Ole doesnt mess up the line up like Jose did

If Ole has been watching United and Lukaku, you would hope as a striker himself he will use Romelu correctly. I am sure he will tell people to give him balls to run onto, not just hoof it and hope he has morphed into Drogba.

Whatever happens, it's so refreshing to actually be excited for a United game again.

Surely it's not about who plays, it's more about how they play?

If Ole can get our squad playing good, attacking football whilst winning games, that's all that matters.

Anyone who thinks Valencia, Matic, Fellaini and Lukaku won't play for us again is deluded IMO.

    DDG

    Dalot - Smalling - Bailly - Shaw

    Pogba - Herrera - Fred

    Martial - Rashford - Mata

That's the team I think Ole will play in his brief stint.

This is what I thought initially but I have a feeling he will revive Lukaku. Ole loves a natural goal scorer and Lukaku is that, barring this season.

An away match against Cardiff, having just sacked the manager. I'm tipping Cardiff to earn at least a point.

Cardiff will certainly be up for it against one of their failed managers. I agree that a draw won't be unlikely, with Matic & other Mourinho stalwarts in the side. Some of the fans on here will be erupting when that happens. Somehow believing we will play a team full of cavaliers.

So having read everything available on Ole and Molde, I am going to go for the following for Cardiff, assuming he actually takes control right away and doesn't default to Carrick for the first game:

    ............ DDG
    Dalot Bailly Smalling Shaw
    ..... Fred Matic Pogba
    . Rashford Lukaku Martial

I think he will like Lingard and Mata too, but can't play them all, as I suspect he will default to 4-3-3 away to get the most out of Pogba.

That said, I think it might not all fun and games based on my score predo.

Carrick will be picking the team for this game I think. So expect to see many of the same faces, Your Matic, Lingard, Smalling etc

Could you imagine Mourinho on Saturday evening had he still been our manager looking on with envy at Warnock who has proper workhorses like Callum Paterson and Sean Morrison at his disposal.

"I was tired by looking at Paterson. Wonderful stamina, effort, desire, courage, fight, (everything except skill)"

I am going in with zero expectations, hoping for some entertainment whatever maybe the result.

Cardiff fans are too bullish though, I know he did a shit job there and lead them to 17th in the Championship but he'll be working with some top talent here.

That's a wise attitude to adopt. The only expectations I have is to see our youth products given a fair crack of the whip. The likes of Chong, Greenwood, Gomez, O'Hara (among others) continue to impress and Ole has a opportunity to show us what they are made of.

Hopefully the 'new manager bounce' will be in full effect by Saturday and Cardiff bear the brunt of it. Five years of restricted football under LVG and Jose will be difficult to shake though, especially for those who have been here though it all.

Looking forward to the game in a sense we wont have this toxic atmosphere surrounding the club, and hopefully the players will get a lift from that. Anyone expecting us to just start playing attacking football straight away like it is as easy as flicking a light switch are in for a rude awakening. That being said, the mood has been lifted and the players need to go out now and prove they are fit to wear the shirt.

    DDG

    Back 4

    Fred and Herrera

    Lingard Pogba Rashford

    Martial

    6-0 win

If we can start putting lukaku through on goal he will be lethal as he has been his whole career (especially when he loses some muscle ffs)

My bet is Herrera and maybe Matic but would prefer Fred in CM, shielding the defence and getting the ball for the break. Pogba playing much more freely to drive with the ball out of defence and trying to slip one of our fast forwards in.

Bad news is Cardiff could well park the bus and challenge Ole to break them down, which might prove difficult. We don't really have the players for that, we are so much better geared towards hitting teams on the break with all of our pace.

Getting Mata into the line up would be nice but I think Pogba could be used in a more attacking way which might not leave space for Mata unless we play him on the right where he is far less effective.

Either way I am looking forward to the game

I'm actually excited for this now. No huge expectations, but finally looking forward to seeing us without this black cloud hanging over the team and fans.

Make no mistake though - Cardiff will fancy this, bigtime. Former failed manager of theirs, struggling giants, they'll fancy taking a memorable scalp here and their fans will be rabid for it.

    I can see Ole going......

    --------------DDG---------------
    Dalot---Bailly---Lindelof----Young
    ---------Matic---Herrera-------
    -------------Pogba-------------
    Lingard----Rashford-----Martial

SUBS - Mata (Lingard), Fellaini (Matic), Fred (Herrera)

    Cardiff City 1 - 2 Man United
Cardiff to score first, probably very early (first 15mins).
Lingard equalises just before half time.
We control the 2nd half, but only score one - Martial.

No kidding...I didn't realize Ole ever managed Cardiff! Interesting side story.
