The excitement of potentially not having Matic in the starting lineup is too much to bare.

Got no idea who's injured besides Sanchez, but I'd like to see this team:

    -----------------De Gea

    Dalot-------Bailly-----Jones (Rojo)-----Shaw

    ----------------- Pereira-----------------------
    ------------Fred----------Pogba---------------
    Lingard------------------------------Rashford
    ----------------- Martial------------------------

With Greenwood getting 10-15 mins as a sub. Make it happen!

The fixture I've been most looking forward to all calendar year. Let's fecking go

The season is not over! 21 games to play and 11 points off 4th, we can still do this!

    De gea
    Dalot Bailey lindeloff Shaw
    Ander
    Pogba mata
    Pierera rashford martial

Attack attack attack and no lukaku!

Yes yes yes, first time in months I'm looking forward to us playing. I really don't care if we lose or draw, just play some fecking football

My preferred pick is below. It's based on the perspective of a new manager sending out a clear message to fans and players.

Here are the main principles I'd look to achieve with the selection, which are to signal a clear break from the dire tactics, awful performances and acceptance of poor standards that categorised Jose's reign
    - a move to positive and attacking football. Including dropping the long ball merchants
    - dropping the golden goose players whose recent performances are abysmal
    - giving deserving players a chance in the 1st team

It's an attacking 433 with Perreira more defensive, the full backs bombing on and the wide players acting as inside forwards rather than traditional wingers.

    De Gea
    Dalot, Lindelof, Bailley, Darmian*

    Fred, Perreira, Pogba

    Greenwood, Rashford, Martial

    Subs**
Romero, Smalling, Young, Garner, Mata, Lingard, Chong

    * I'd go for Shaw but probably not match fit. Darmian gets the not over Young as despite his work rate, I'm sick of him hoofing it on practically every occasion

** I've benched or left out a few players for the following reasons. Lukkaku and Matic have been consistently poor (the latter needs a rest), Herrera and Young are dropped for lack of compsure and hoofing it, Valencia is unfortunately done at this level, Rojo and Jones need to be moved on because of injury, while Fellani misses out to send out the message on our change in playing style. Smalling is benched as I'd like to see what two players with greater ball playing ability can do.

With Carrick being in charge, the one prediction I will make is that there will be as many Ferguson era/HG players as possible starting this first game. Carrick & McKenna will want their most trustworthy players out there.

    ---------------De Gea----------------

    Valencia - Jones - Smalling - Young

    ------Lingard - Matic - Pogba--------

    Mata----------Martial-------Rashford

The team Carrick puts out on the weekend should actually be a real insight as to what's been going on behind the scenes.

If there have been players who have been training badly and sulking, then surely Carrick won't pick them?

    DDG

    Dalot
    Bailly
    Smalling
    Shaw

    Fred
    Pereira
    Pogba

    Rashford
    Greenwood
    Martial

Great minds think alike! Very similar to my selection, but ice assumed that Shaw is not fit to start and I've preferred Lindelof over Smalling as I want to send out a message that we are going to bring back out passing play.

The season is over... but if we get our team playing some good football, there will be something to look forward to.

Really hope we get to see some of the fringe players to see if they are good enough for the step up.. I've had enough of the usual safe starters.

This will certainly be one of the most intriguing team sheets I can remember.

We cannot have the likes of young, matic, fellaini and lukaku in the team anymore, these 4 esp represent everything that’s been wrong with united under Jose Mourinho. Let’s make a stand the next manager, and he needs to make a stand by throwing darmian, Valencia, young, Jones, fellaini, matic and lukaku out the door

Broadly agree with your list (most moved now, all by end of the season) but I'm willing to give Matic a stay of execution as part of the issue may be that he has been overused - he has the rest of the season to prove himself.

I'd also add the following to the list of exits:

Rojo - Sicknote and same reason for removing Jones

Darmian - Not good enough quality

Herrera - Not proved it over the seasons he has had with us. Good player, but can lack compsure and go hoof crazy

As i've put in my preferred line up post, I'm giving the front players and deserving youth players a chance. Some may not he up to the grade, but we don't know as Jose has not given them a proper chance

There are a couple of problems with this approach. Without Darmian, Young and Valencia we only have Shaw and Dalot as fullbacks - neither can be consistently be relied upon (at this stage) - we could probably cope with getting rid of Valencia and Darmian in Jan if we bring back TFM.

Fellaini is useful, but not as a midfielder where he's useless.

The issue we have with Lukuku is that we don't really have an alternative, to get rid of Lukuku we need another striker.

There is very little to argue the immediate jettison of Jones and Matic.

Matic for me has got to go, we have better options in pogba, Herrera, perrera and Fred, you add mata who should also see donkey fellaini gone also.

But if we are are to evolve going forward we need ruthless aggression in Valencia, young, darmian, rojo, Jones, matic, fellaini and lukaku all must go. Herrera I would say has he does have that pressing and is still quiet good on the ball he’s worth keeping

Midfield options pogba, Fred, perrera, Herrera and mata I vouch I would say take matic and fellaini’s places meaning them two are not needed and never were. Summer 2019 I think all of the ones I named maybe along with rojo, but I do think and expect in the summer Valencia, young, Jones, rojo, matic, fellaini, lukaku should be out the door. Atleast I would expect rojo, Jones, young, Valencia, matic and fellaini to have been moved on, has I cannot expect a manager who is progressive would want to keep any of these players. They are too old, too slow and make far Tom many mistakes. They represent the very badness of what this club has been about

Great opportunity to win and score plenty, hope we go for the throat from the start

I don't think Carrick will bench Lukaku. Assuming fitness, probably this:

    De Gea
    Dalot Bailly Lindelof Young
    Pereira Herrera Pogba
    Rashford Lukaku Martial

I assume Smalling will still be out, but if he's fit then he's in and Bailly is out.

    I can go with this.

Top 4 gone etc....I want to get these guys a lot of playing time before next year:

Dalot, Baily, Fred, Martial, Pereira, Rashford, Lindelof, Shaw (i think still inj.?)

    I'd like to see:

    -----------------DDG---------------
    Dalot---Baily--------Lindelof----Young(Shaw if healthy)
    ----------------Herrera-----------
    ---Fred---------------------Pogba
    ------------Mata----------
    --------------------------Martial
    ----Rashford-------------

    Pereira in 60min

Echo the sentiments of the other posters, first time in a while I am actually looking forward to a game. Nothing magical will happen in 5 days,I mean we still have an awful defence, but at least we may threaten Cardiff somewhat.

Warnock is gonna do what his teams always do, it’ll be aerial and physical but we need to get stuck in and not back off from their players.

Bet you didn't think Cardiff away would be the must see match of the season?

Holy shit, what’s with all the hostility? Liverpool fans don’t even talk that much shit

He did get them relegated - they are hardly going to lay out the red carpet for him.

Hell of an introduction. If Carrick was in charge, this should have been a walkover, now the Cardiff fans will be so up for this - keeps things interesting. Without Ole there would be zero interest in this match.

Just hope we got out there and play some good, attractive football.

Also with Ole now confirmed as caretaker, I’m sure he will deep down want to get one over on Cardiff as his stint there wasn’t the greatest.

I'm going up for the Bournemouth game. It should be his first bow at Old Trafford so I'm pumped now!

I didn’t realise how unbelievably shite he was at Cardiff.
He was unbelievably shite at Cardiff, which means most posters on here either must be too young to remember or have it mentally blocked out because of their soft sport for Ole. Personally I can only see this going one way. Caretaker manager sacked, replaced by caretakers assistant.

Him I understand, us not so much. “Man ure”? cnuts.

As I recall it was the owners fecking about so much that got them relegated. The malkey mackay stuff, changing the strip to red really stood out.

Give me a nice 442 with Martial and Rashford up top and playing attacking football.
