Good analogy but if you’re age is as ripe as mine you would of experienced some pretty barren years through the 70s and 80s.Waiting for United game to me is like waiting for a doctors appointment or an interview - just nervous, rather not be there, fearing the worst hoping for the best etc. Just zero enjoyment or excitement for me.
At my ripe old age I think I need to step away for a while and if we can’t beat Burnley tonight it may be as good a time as any!
At least my heart (and wife) will appreciate it.
The problem I have is that I can’t remember how painful and disappointing it felt during those times even though I was probably more invested in United as in terms of match going but I was also a child and had Star Wars to distract me and as a teenager/young man was just getting high and having fun so maybe it didn’t matter as much as it does now.
My wife hates football and gets frustrated when I cancel social engagements to watch a game but she wouldn’t want it any other way as it would probably change me as a person and weirdly make me more miserable than when I watch United these days.
Good times will return, I just hope to be alive when they do but in the meantime I try not kick the dog or take it too personally.
Good luck.
