Just want to get the Atleti games over and done with then that'll be me done with this season.
Why bother supporting the team at all if you’re only interested when it does well? Love my team no matter how much they annoy me at times…

Hopefully we follow on with the attacking cohesion we showed against Middlesbrough but with clinical finishing this time. The only starting change I'd make is Matic in the holding role, we know there's no future in this midfield 3 but if we're sticking with 4-3-3 for the rest of the season then this is the most balanced option.

Sometimes you have games where everything that goes wrong goes wrong. We battered Boro, played well and deserved to win. A combination of poor finishing (Ronaldo is lacking confidence due to not scoring a goal for ages the best strikers go through it he needs a goal to get him going again) bad luck with the handball goal and fatigue because of the lack of options on the bench (thank Lingard and Cavani for that) all contributed to a loss. It was the perfect storm for Middlesborough that if you replayed that goal 10 times Boro would probably win 1

I'd play the same starting team with minimal changes because I think they are getting rhythm and slowly getting better. Sometimes you have to take a step back to take a few steps forward

    4-0 United

United. United we lose together and United we win together. United through the bad times and good.
Good post. Nice to have some reality for a chance. We played well against boro. Should’ve won 3 or 4 nil. One of those games. The last few games have show much improvement though. Reasons for optimism.

Burnley = Matic playing for their hoof ball...

    De Gea

    Dalot Varane Maguire Telles

    Matic
    Bruno Pogba

    Rashford Cavani Sancho

I'll probably just have it on the background while I'll play a proper game. Too depressing watching them. 2-1 win to Burnley.

    4-0 United

This post is far too rational and sensible to be wasted in the matchday forum.

We were pretty comfy in the reverse fixture, and since then they've lost one of their better players.

Also, I've been encouraged by the performance vs Boro and WHU. So, I'm quietly hoping we continue in that vein of form and see Burnley off with a 2-0 or 3-0 win.

    I'd go with...

    Henderson/DdG

    Shaw
    Maguire
    Varane
    Dalot

    McT
    Pogba

    Rashers
    Bruno
    Sancho

    Cavani

If we play like we did against Boro, we'll win comfortably.

I know there's a bit of a cloud over United at the moment, but there were definitely some green shoots of recovery in the last game.

We're defending well and creating chances. The likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Edinson Cavani, Rashford, Bruno and Snacho are all normally brilliant finishers. Even Elanga and Lingard can be relied upon most of the time.

If there's any consolation, it's that I don't think we'll have another game this season where we miss so many open goals.

I don’t think Burnley will give us the space Boro did or make the same amount of unforced errors but we should scrape this if we bring our attacking momentum from the last game

Well as a supporter of a certain age, and I am sure those of a similar age or older will understand this cry, " Come on the Teddy Boys".

I’m surprised to read posts claiming that we played really well against boro. We actually didn’t. The chances we missed weren’t exactly glorious. There was the missed pk, but one normally wouldn’t point to a missed pk as evidence of brilliant play. There was the open net miss by Bruno, for which some credit for the pressing is warranted but it was in fact the result of poor play out of the back that created the open net, which Bruno missed. And the poor defending that the to boro’s goal — which should have been disallowed, without question — was shocking.

My point is that we need to significantly raise our performance level against Burnley from what we just witnessed on Friday if we’re to scrape the away point.

Think this season is already too long and May is too far away. We are really suffering as a fan watching United this season, and I don't really remember when we last enjoyed a real good performance (except the opening day against Leeds)

Seems that all the players are affected by the bad mood, and I don't think that Ralf's management and communication will help those crying babies. He seems honest, direct and doesn't look the one creating the greatest atmosphere rather giving the players responsibilities.

Anyway, it's going to be another hard game to watch.

Hopefully we'll have Cavani, Lingard, Pogba and Rashford as potential options.

only If we stop insisting on using sancho and rashford the wrong way around

Imagine hating Phil Jones that much. Dear God.
I like Jones tbh but Maguire is objectively a considerably better defender and footballer. If you can’t see that then frankly I pity you.

Nah, you don't. You'd assume I hate Maguire, which is really, really sad and deserves more pity.

Did you watch the whole game vs Boro? I ask because we had a lot more chances than you appear to have seen.

Sancho hitting the bar, Bruno's wild follow up, Ronaldo's overhead, Rashford from Sancho's cross, Bruno's open net, Ronaldo's pen, Rashford's off side goal, Ronaldo straight at the keeper (I believe twice?), Elanga free header right in front of goal, Fred's wild attempt at the edge of the box - all this is straight off the top of my head btw. I'm sure I'm missing a good few - we created an absolute glut of chances and on another day, it would have been one of our historic pastings. It's so annoying we ended up losing our way in a game where we've had our best performance in a very large long time, as now we'll have to contend with conclusions like yours, when in all honesty, there's steady progress that we're beginning to see.

If we play how we played versus Boro but players actually bring their shooting boots to play this time, the game will be done and dusted by half time.

If it wasn't Burnley i'd like Lindelof to start if fit. Shaw, Maguire and the midfield still worry me even though it's only Burnley.

Yeah I do tbf, it’s difficult to hate someone you’ve been watching since they were 18. And most people on this forum seem irrationally hate Maguire so if I’ve misread that than I apologise. However I don’t see why you’d drop him for Phil Jones when coming up against a 6ft6 striker.

Whereas under Ole we often played shit but got a result, Boro was a good performance that didn't end up the way we deserved. We're definitely playing better though and, if we keep improving, should be optimistic.

Personally can't see any optimism when Maguire, Scott, and Shaw are the first choices. Pogba wants to leave and Rashford and Ronaldo only play for themselves The squad needs gutting again.

I think Rangnick will keep Rashford on the RW to prevent him constantly cutting in to shoot, personally right now I'd start Sancho RW and Elanga LW and use Marcus as an impact sub, but I'm not sure politically if Rangnick can do that.

You should see some of the comments I've seen on Twitter from so-called fans in Africa, Asia & North America, saying things like, "I'm done with UTD", "I'm going to support Chelsea, UTD are so bad", I even saw a pic of someone wearing a UTD shirt with a piece of paper taped over the United bit on the badge & replaced with the word City making the badge on the shirt say "Manchester City" instead of "Manchester United"

My biggest fear is that he players like many posters on here are still on cloud nine after the massive high of putting in a performance and taking mighty Middlesborough all the way to penalties, it can be hard to bring the players back down to earth and concentrate again after such a feat.

Actually blew my mind reading and watching so many people praise that performance, standards are dead at this club.

Feels like about 80% of posters on here have absolutely no idea what supporting a football team is all about.

We all know what is coming at Burnley. Claret wall of ten players then hoof it up the park to catch Maguire out. I hope Telles starts and Cavani gets a run out. Stating the obvious, we need a win.

We've certainly been improving performance wise but this will be an important game to reset the mood after the Middlesbrough loss.

A top 4 fight is below where we should be but that's the reality so each win is an important step right now.

as gutting as the boro game turned out, there were more than a few positives, the system is slowly coming together, with gradual signs week on week that its going to get there. If only our forwards could hit a cows arse with a banjo it would have been a good night. 1-3 bruno x2 and Sancho

I think this game will set the tone for the rest of the season. See how and if the team recovers after the devastating loss against Championship Middlesborough. I’m having a hard time believing we can win this. Fortunately for us, Burnley are just as awful as we are, so I don’t see them beating us either. Looks like a 1:1 draw.
