We’ll perform totally underwhelmingly. This pattern will continue interminably until the end of time.

Judging from Jose's comments, we are going to play quite defensively. So much for "a new direction".

Think we should have enough to put Burnley away though. I don't see an upset here.

Lindelof has proven to be a liability and although the alternative (Bailly) wasn't a great deal better against Brighton, he has shown his quality in the past for United - worth persisting with in my opinion. Smalling and Bailly are the best we have available.

I would be very surprised if this turned into a good match. We might scrape a win by a single goal, but it won't be pretty. Mourinho will probably take the 2nd half against Spurs as proof that we need to play defensively, rather than taking the first half as proof of the opposite.

The paradox of being a United fan who watches all our games - counting down the hours until the match even though you know it's gonna suck.

This will an easy 0-3 win for us. Lukaku will finally finish a chance he gets.

If that quote is accurate and not twisted, he really is a cock.

I don’t rate our defenders either (as a group) but feck me, defend your players or just shut up.

He knows what he's doing. Either this gets him a backline he wants, or he has his excuses lined up when he's moved on.

Could we have got a manager more at odds with the United way of playing? He’s wrong anyway and it’s his own fault if he’s right. He bought Bailly and Linelof and could easily have got rid of Jones and Smalling but loves them too much.

That's bullshit. Wonder if he's heard of the saying 'the best form of defence is attack'.

You sit behind the ball for 90 minutes, without pressing opponents, you're bound to concede.

It's comments like this that pisses me off. Trying to justify his shit tactics. Not on!

Funnily, he's wrong. Klopp played in exactly the same way with Rodgers' squad which had a poor defense. They conceded many, but also scored more to win games. That he finished 8th was due to having a thin squad and focusing on the Europa League rather than his style of play.

The point is, playing out from the back is all well and good, but he's making excuses for his inability to get the best out of the attack. If CBs were so important, why sign Sanchez on huge wages when we could have just signed a CB instead back then and got the ball rolling?

    Whatever, just beat Burnley.

We could have Evra, Vidic, Ferdinand and Neville in the back four, I'd still doubt Mourinho's ability to get the best from our attacking players.

    He's an absolute arse.

If you have poor defenders, then why sit back and try and defend for 90 minutes? Wouldn't it make sense to just attack, where you'd expect our defenders to have less defending to do?

That's why Liverpool and City look 'solid at the back', because they hardly fecking defend due to pushing teams back for the majority of the game.

Yet shows his love by buying replacements for them? You're another random ranter blowing off steam with zero evidence to support your claim...

He will run out of players to throw under the bus at this rate.

How's he throwing anyone under the bus with that? Being solid at the back is some new notion to players?

Being solid is a team effort and a coaching effort, absolutely no one is being thrown under the bus there.

Liverpool finished 4th last year though? Not exactly disproving Joses point here.

He is again saying his defenders are not good enough. Simple as that.

What? He bought Bailly and Lindelof! He declares that the defence isn’t strong enough, yet he gestured to the media that Young and Valencia are top class. He buys two CB’s and neither of them look top class. The defence is what it is because of poor defensive recruitment and inability to identify full back targets that are both attainable and better than what we have.

Aside from that, Liverpool were the furthest thing from solid in defence prior to VVD. Granted they conceded more, but they didn’t have a world class keeper or a top defence, yet it didn’t stop their offensive play. With the influence of Carrick and McKenna we should show signs of improving offensive and possession areas, but I get the impression that they don’t know how to implement those ideas under Mourinho’s defensive framework.

Streams today :( looking forward to watching the Man Utd Lego xi vs. Bitrate Burnely at the Lag Moore stadium.

He didn't through anybody under the bus.
he merely pointed out that right now, our defence is fragile and needs protecting. If we attempt to play attack (like against Spurs), the opponent will have a field day against our defenders (as Spurs did).

When I saw that game, the first thing I noticed was just how much better Toby A, for Spurs was. And the second thing was that we can't play an attacking style of football because our defenders are absolutely terrible. 3 years earlier, LVG had also reached this conclusion and opted for an ultra defensive style of play.

He’ll be getting feck all I think.
Jose will be gone by Xmas. I don’t want him sacked yet but it’s written in the stars.

The fans see the football City, Liverpool and Spurs play. I mean, even Fulham play better football than us!

The fans only have so much patience. A leopard doesn’t change his spots and Jose likes a functional, pragmatic approach. He won’t change. He thinks too much about the opposition, which is fine when it’s away at Man City or Juventus.

But at home v Leicester? Away at Brighton? It’s not good enough.

Today will be a slog, a tight and narrow 1-0 win from a set piece.

Thin squad. Remember Klopp threw away the 2nd place race when they beat City to reach CL SF. Was content with 4th and rested players in the league.
We stopped playing after beating City ourselves and focused on the FA cup. That was days after Liverpool beat them at Anfield so our drop offs mirrored each other.
They spend 145m on two defensive players within 7 months of each other so obviously Klopp is of the same opinion as Jose!

    United arrive at Turf Moor

What I gathered from that pearler of a statement is that he's holding the defence entirely accountable for the team's shortcomings. Whether true or false, you don't fecking say as much in a press conference that is available for public viewing.

I cannot fathom why our club continues to air their dirty laundry in public. It happened over the summer with Fellaini, Martial, Pogba and Woody and absolutely no good came from any of it. Jose needs a gag order.

Don’t know what to expect today. Just hope we play well and win but really unsure.

This will probably be another loss or a draw and even if we do win it will be really close. Personally speaking it feels absolutely devastating going up against any team in the league with zero confidence.

Turf Moor looks like such a shitehole of a ground

By the way, DM me some nice quick clear rivers please :)

Pep bought some FBs and a GK. He didn't like them and asked for them be replaced. His bosses did as he asked and bought another GK (WR fee for GK) and FBs. He also bought one of the most expensive CBs in the World, at the time, who hasn't quite worked out.

Klopp had some decent defenders who just weren't doing the job he wanted. In the end he asked his bosses to buy him the most expensive defender in the World. Which they did.

Jose bought some young defenders who he hoped would come good. As yet, they haven't. He asked his boss to buy him an experienced quality defender. His boss said, "no, our current defenders are good enough and a new defender costs too much money".

People need to understand that if we had Klopp/Pep as manager, they would be doing exactly the same as Jose, ie. asking bosses to buy defenders.

Except Liverpool especially havent been good defensively. This season being different though.

Good attacking sides dont start looking good going forward once they have sorted their defence out
