I know that some of you are deflated after getting beat by Sevilla, but you need to remember the EL is ridiculously difficult to win.
And Sevilla own that trophy. We scored 2 goals and when they decided, they scored 5 goals in a row. They were always favourites to win that.
We are a terrible team away, but with Bruno back, I believe we are the favourites to win this one, at a neutral ground.

Let's not worry about the next round, focus on this round and depending on who we meet in the final, ETH will concoct a plan to beat them.

One off game at Wembley anything can happen. Brighton are very good well organised side, excellent in possession, but they do play high and are vulnerable to counters.

We will probably find ourselves quite deep and inviting them on to hit them behind with the Bruno Rashford combo.

De Gea (really wish it wasn't)
    A.W.B. Lindelof Shaw Dalot
    Casemerio
    Bruno eriksen
    Anthony Rashford Sancho.

Please not weghorst that really is like playing with our boots this together.

I don't know what you're on about. We gifted them 4 goals(2 of them when we were a man down) and one was a corner. You don't have to paint them as some EL warriors because they aren't this season.

Sevilla should have been out of the tie after the Old Trafford game with a 4-0 loss. Bad finishing and two own goals saved their butts.

Then in Sevilla we basically give a goal away after 7 minutes.

    We lost to ourselves.

    Vs Spurs - 1.43 xg vs 0.83
    Vs Brentford - 4.47 xg vs 1.6
    Vs Fulham - 2.22 xg vs 0.34
    Vs palace - 2.5 xg vs 1.08
    Vs Leeds - 1.89 xg vs 1.66

Their only bad performance in those 5 games was vs Leeds where yeah it was a fair draw. They outplayed every other team and got fecked by the refs in multiple actions vs Spurs for example or just had some bad finishing and clinical opposition finishing, conceding 2 goals from 0.3xG for example.

Oh and before you say "maybe they just can't finish chances like top teams", United is underperforming their xG by more than Brighton is this season.

They are an excellent team really, and performance wise, expected stats wise (which essentially rates how well they create and prevent chances over a season), they are the 3rd best side in the league. They have their weaknesses as well they have a mid table squad mostly and a mid table budget, but as a team, the way they play, is that of a top team. Things like keeping the shots out in the key moments or finishing the chances you create they lag behind.

    "xG" yawn

You need to watch games, that could actually help you understand things.
@bosnian_red thanks for the detailed breakdown
It’s like 5 wins in 11 league games or something. I think pretending they’re some unstoppable force that can’t be stopped is beyond hysterical no matter how many pretty triangles they play.
Not having enough goal scorers in your team is 100 percent a flaw in a side that just can’t be hand waved away
Edit add to the fact they rarely keep clean sheets on top of that

So basically I'm supposed to expect a clown show where both sides can't score but are also defensively weak.

    Bore off with xG nonsense

We were favourites against the 13th placed team in their league. They are not very good. Have Lamela playing for them. After 250mill investment it's a bit nuts to ship 5 vs a team 13th in their respective league

But you have to look at the context of the goals. Genuinely the most ridiculous 5 goals I've ever seen in one tie.

Sevilla didn't win, United basically picked up the ball and chucked it in the net.

I felt uncomfortable watching that last game. They looked the better side and I could see them getting goals at some point

They'll only win this because we are ravaged by injuries and fatigue from having 2 days in-between this and playing in Sevilla, which we've been playing a match basically every 3 days since the turn of the year.

    If ETH could field this

    Rashford-Martial-Antony
    ----------------Bruno
    -----Casemiro-Eriksen
    Shaw--LM-RV-AWB
    -------------DDG

    We'd be in the final.

    Good post, predictable response.

That's fair! Dont get me wrong we were really bad and deserved to go out!

It is Brighton. Nobody is saying they are unstoppable. We are saying they are one of the best teams in the league, which they very clearly are. Playing a semi final against one of the best teams in the league, ignore the name, look at how they play and the data that backs it up. They beat Liverpool 3-0 in the league, beat them in the FA Cup, drew 3-3 at anfield. They beat Arsenal in the league Cup. They hammered Chelsea home and away. They beat us at Old Trafford. They were unlucky not to beat Newcastle after they dominated that whole game.

They are just a very good team and expecting a United side with no Martinez, no Varane, half fit rashford and Shaw and whatever fitness Martial can muster to go and dominate is setting yourself up for disappointment. We will need to be at our very best to beat them, because they simply are a very good team.

    Exactly.

Posts stat that shows a team generally creates more chances than the opposition - "bore off". Nice  Some people really I guess just hate when data gets in the way of their shit opinions
Thanks for posting stats and don’t let any ignorance shown stop this. No one’s saying that stats are everything but they do provide support for what we’ve seen from Brighton in more recent games.

    We'd be in the final.
I mean we'd have a better chance and it will still be a hard to predict game now. To say "put out our best lineup and we'd be in the final" isn't all that realistic, given they have a great big game record this season. We'd have to be at our best regardless of who is fit or absent.

Who talked about them being an unstoppable force ? We're so currently inconsistent that it could take an decent team to beat us.

    @ti vu

Thanks. For Maguire simply nothing works out fine, you'd think he is cursed or something.

I don't normally criticise our players but Maguire is horrendous. Is it any surprise that, the minute he comes back into the team, we start conceding these freak goals?
Maybe because we have lost two of our best players in Varane and Martinez?

Don’t Brighton have a bunch of important players injured too? That’s got to be a factor that could be a problem for them too.

A lot of people hopeful on Shaw's fitness. Not seeing many people guessing who might partner Lindelof in defence if he's out. My guess would be Casemiro.

No chance. Good thing I have other things to do. Hey, at least Maguire is suspended. And I wouldn't want Haaland anywhere near our defense in the final. Silver linings, right?

    Brighton 3:0.

Jesus. Are you this relentlessly negative in your everyday life? Makes me wonder how some of ye get up in the morning.

Some are on every forum, some are needlessly arrogant and ignorant of other teams outside of their own. Football lovers who are also fans of a club are the ones to listen to for genuine insight. And no this isn’t a masturbatory post, I value quality insight. @Adnan is a superb poster here, for instance

Its our job to do the best that we can which includes trying to win every tournament we are in and also trying to stop City from emulating our treble.

We'll do Brighton tomorrow and then do City in the final. It will be a glorious day which hopefully all you negoids who already have City winning the cup will stay at home with the curtains drawn and decide to support Newcastle United next season hopefully.

We are getting slapped either way, win tomorrow we are getting hammered by Cithe in the final without Martinez.

Brighton would be doing us a favour by beating us, they'd have a better chance of beating City in the final than we do and they'd spare us an FA Cup Final humiliation.
I'm not happy about how true this is.

We are so poor without Martinez and Varane I don’t think we stand a realistic chance here. It’s not worth the risk of injuries, we need to finish the season strong and hold onto 3rd. I’m convinced EtH won’t see it that way, he’ll play our best available team, and we’ll still get thumped. 4-0 to the Seagulls.

I will be extremely surprised if Brighton knocks you out tomorrow. For all the beatiful manners, patterns and style, they have worse players overall… and individual quality is too much too often the deciding factor in such one-off games. In addition, a lot of your players are on their last chance to impress Ten Hag and presumably fighting for their future at United, so double effort guaranteed. 3-1 United to me.

I'm a massive pessimist but not even I'm as bad as some of you in here. It's fecking Brighton, a good team, but you'd swear it was Barca 2009 we were up against.

They are slight favourites but we are more than capable of getting a win.

Someone in the PL game week thread the other day was saying they’ll win the CL next year.
