Why are so many people convinced Martial will start?

He's done nothing but annoy Mourinho all pre-season. Sanchez having 1 bad game wont get him dropped, he's been rubbish since he joined and maintains a starting spot! Sanchez will play.

I hope the midfield remains the same, I hope we up our pressing and dominate.

    2-0 I predict

I really want Mata to start again. I feel like he adds some we don’t have and he links up nicely with Sanchez.

There are times I believe any armchair supporter in here is better than Mourinho, and then there are times I realise he's not so bad after all. Don't think even he's so stupid as to prefer Mata on the right wing to Rashford, Martial or Lingard in an away game.

Lukaku for Rashford, Lingard for Mata and maybe Young for Darmian but can't see any other changes. Going to be a difficult game but if our midfield can build on that Leicester performance, we should be able to get 3 points. Eager to see how Perreira does.

    Darmian stays

And so, despite speculation earlier in the week that Darmian would be leaving before the Italian window closed, we're here past the deadline and he's still at the club. The transfer window is still open in France, Germany, Portugal, Spain and many other countries for two more weeks but, with his heart set on a move back home to Italy, it is looking highly likely he will be here until at least the January window.

This poses some selection problems regarding Sunday's game against Brighton. Will our fullback pairing be Darmian and Shaw, Young and Shaw or Darmian and Young?

I never said he should start on the right wing.

If Young is fit to play I'd go with wing-backs (Young & Shaw) and play a 3-5-2.
This should compensate for the lack of width when playing with a 4-3-3

    On the plane

The following players boarded the plane to Brighton at Manchester Airport:

Goalkeepers (3): David De Gea, Lee Grant, Matej Kovar
Defenders (7): Luke Shaw, Victor Lindelof, Ashley Young, Matteo Darmian, Chris Smalling, Eric Bailly, Phil Jones
Midfielders (6): Scott McTominay, Paul Pogba, Andreas Pereira, Ander Herrera, Fred, Marouane Felliani
Forwards (5): Marcus Rashford, Romelu Lukaku, Anthony Martial, Juan Mata, Jesse Lingard

Alexis Sanchez was not sighted. This does not mean that he is not going to play - it could be the case that he traveled to Brighton separately.
    I'd guess:

    De Gea

    Young Bailly Lindelof Shaw
    Pereira
    Fred Pogba
    Mata Lukaku Rashford

Bench: Grant, Darmian, Smalling, Herrera, Fellaini, Martial, Lingard

    Question marks being:
    • Which two of Young, Shaw and Darmian will play?
    • Will it be Pereira or Herrera?
    • Mata or Lingard?

Think Lingard will be eased in rather than starting. There's a chance Sanchez travelled separately.

    If no Sanchez I'd like:

    DDG
    Darmian Bailly Lindelof Shaw
    Periera
    Pogba Fred
    Rashford Lukaku Martial

In those positions. We can do some damage. We can get away with Darmian at RB if there is someone with pace on the RW.

A, err, friend of mine, or something, will be watching the game somewhere without wifi and wanted to know how much data watching a full match might use up.

Any ideas how many Gb of data watching a live match would take? I was thinking a couple of gig, maybe?

Looks like Martial will get a start here,I reckon Jose plays him and Rashers either side of Lukaku. could be interesting.

De Gea to sign a new contract

Mourinho confirmed in his pre-match press conference that De Gea will soon be signing a new contract. Here are his quotes:

“He is a Manchester United player and he will as soon as possible sign a new contract. He likes it here, we love him. We want him to stay, he wants to stay, so when a player is not on the market the value is zero.

“A goalkeeper is a player and sometimes people forget that a goalkeeper earns points and earns titles. A goalkeeper is as important as another player, so the old story of ‘I paid that for a striker, I don't pay that for a keeper’ is old-fashioned in this moment. People understand that and the market too, and I'm happy for them. I'm happy for the keepers.”

Mourinho was also asked if he would swap De Gea for any other goalkeeper in the world:

“No! That’s the best question and the easiest answer. No.”

Depends on the quality. A lower quality stream should take less than a Gb. 2 gb should be enough .

The win against Leicester was important, the disruptive nature of pre-season and the manager's mood during it meant when we went into the game with a negative vibe surrounding the team. This negativity would have grown if we dropped points last week, but we won. The performance left a lot to be desired but I can forgive that due to the fact so many players missed pre-season, I will certainly expect the performance level to get better now the squad have had a full week of good training behind them. This game represents a chance to build momentum ahead of the Tottenham game next weekend. Any dropped points would put real pressure on that game which is not ideal so early in the season. This won't be an easy game, Brighton beat us at their place only 3/4 months ago and they will be looking for a reaction after they lost their opening game to Watford. "We were very disappointed with the performance last week," he said. "We can win or lose anywhere, particularly away from home, and we didn't expect a comfortable game. If you lose in a manner you can accept, that's okay, but the performance was not at a level we expected. I need to make decisions on the changes I need to make. It's a bad start for us. We need a reaction."
This is a the type of game that United need to be doing better in, it was a game that we lost last season admittedly when there was nothing to play for, but we need to start showing more consistency in these type of games.

Brighton have made a load of signing over the summer, but from what we saw on the opening weekend it will be the same style of play but he may make changes to the side after their poor performance last week.
Their defensive organisation was the standout feature of their side. Manager Chris Hughton boasts experience at the highest level and is a master of drilling his players in a simple, back-to-basics defensive system. Brighton won't roll over easily. they will concentrate on minimising space between the lines and soaking up pressure. No other side in the Premier League pressed as little as Hughton's men last season – they will get 10 men behind the ball very quickly to protect the backline. As mentioned already this is the type of side that United struggled with last season, ultimately the major problem is their lack of goals, particularly in games against relatively mediocre opposition. The surprising aspect of the game against Leicester last week was how much possession Leicester had, but I would fully expect United to control possession and the tempo of the game here. We have yet to see consistently any good combination play or relationship in United's attack under Mourinho, we are more about individuals creating momets or expolting teams with our counter-attacking speed when they are unorgansied, that is when we are at our most dangerous, but with us dominating possession these opportunities may be few and far between. Brighton's right-back zone maybe an area United could exploit, Bruno Saltor remains a solid operator, but is injured and it's not clear who will replace him on that side of the defence. It may be worth Rashford and Sanchez swapping positions so United have a more direct player to penetrate down that flank.

Dale Stephens and Davy Propper will try to encourage teams to attack down the flanks rather than through the middle. I would fully expect United to control possession as a result. Brighton sometimes drop Pascal Gross deeper into a 4-1-4-1 system to help them gain control. United have a well-balanced midfield trio. Pereira will offer positive distribution from deep, Fred offers mobility, tactical intelligence and the odd bit of creative, and those two provide a decent base for Paul Pogba to push further forward and provide creativity

Brighton's biggest attacking threat will come down the flanks, Anthony Knockaert should play from the right and in the French attacking midfielder Brighton have a potential star in their ranks. He is an excellent all-round attacking winger capable of dribbling, crossing and shooting from range, on paper he’ll be Brighton’s main counter-attacking threat. He will certainly test Luke Shaw defensively and that could be an intriguing 1v1 battle. We saw last week what Shaw can contribute to United's attacking play last week, but this will be a test of his defensive game too.
On the opposite flank, Solly March is also a good dribbler, and another suited to a counter-attacking style, Darmian had problems early on against Demari Gray in 1v1's last week and March is a similar type of player. Glenn Murray is likely to lead the line, Murray is a good old-fashioned penalty box striker, but United's centre-backs shouldn't have too many problems dealing with him. The other player United really need to keep an eye on is Pascal Gross. As mentioned it will be interesting to see where he plays he's very much capable of pulling the strings deeper in midfield or he could play between the lines and concentrates on playing killer passes which could cause Pereira problems. He’s unquestionably Brighton’s major creative threat and is also an excellent set-piece taker, and the Seagulls might depend upon this route for goals in this game so United need alert in set-play situations.

Subs - Grant, Young, Smalling, Fellani, Lingard, Rashford, Martial.

Depends on the quality of the video.
1 GB can range from ~30mins to 7 hours.

I don't think this is going to present a problem for my, err, friend.

I am really jealous of him, because he will be on the beach watching the football tomorrow afternoon. :smirk:

Depends if it's hd or not. But around 0,5 i think.

The next two games may dictate how our season goes. I'd be happy with the ugliest wins possible for both. People are underestimating Brighton - Hughton sides always make for horrible away games.

This is what I'm hoping for against reason...

    Martial Lukaku Sanchez
    Pogba Fred
    Pereira
    Shaw Lindelof Bailly Young
    DDG
Hopefully Young and Martial are ready to step in. Bring Rashford in the second when the legs get tired.

If Sanchez is injured, Rashford will take his place on the left with Lukaku up top most probably.

Looking forward to game today, I think the first 10 games are huge for us. If we’ve dropped little then I’ll be able to start looking forward to games with just excitement not huge nerves. I badly want this team to prove everybody wrong.

Any win please, let form and style build as season goes on.

Moving from India to the United States has fecked up all my timelines. All games during lunchtime now. Wtf.

I'm pumped after the recent Sky interview and the pre match one. Let's hope we lay down marker by bashing this lot. Sick of people writing us off.
