This is the type of game we struggled in last year. Hopefully an improvement is seen in games like this one.

They'll get a lucky break early on and almost score and that'll get the crowd up and the commentators commenting about how dodgy our defending looks and then eventually they'll just keep lumping it at the box and score from that and we'll end up losing in a shockingly bad game just like last year.

    Early team news

Following the Premier League's example, the transfer window closes in Italy before their League season begins. Their window will now close on the 17th August - two days before we face Brighton.

Even though we have issues at right back with both Valencia and Dalot injured, Young is now available so it is highly likely Darmian will be allowed to leave and will be sold before the window there closes.
Need to be winning these games. No two ways about it. Our fixture list is very favorable. Time to build some momentum.

    De Gea
    Young Bailly Lindelof Shaw
    Pereira Fred
    Lingard Pogba Sanchez
    Lukaku

Sanchez looked so much better once Lukaku was on the pitch, think hell do much better this game. Since Darmian seems to be off, Young should slot right in and really give us a better flank on the right side. Id give Lingard his first start if he's fit too. If not wouldnt mind seeing either Rashford or Mata in his place

Lukaku in for Rashford, Young in for Darmian, Martial in for Alexis. Thats what I would do if I was the one who picked the teams. But we know that Alexis will play. Still, I think the other 2 will/should happen. I think that there is a possibility of Smalling coming in for Lindelof as well.

We got a nice break so we should be able to get several players back, and others with a bit more sharpness and freshness perhaps. Pogba for example will get another week under his belt. Martial, etc too. The downside of playing on Friday has become the upside of getting an extra long period of preparation for the next match. I can't stress how important it is to come out of August with 9 points.

We should be in much better stead for the Brighton game than we were for the Leicester game. For that game we still had players out, not yet fully fit, not sharp yet or fully gelling in the team. eg. De Gea, Pogba, Fred, Lukaku, Rashford, Lingard, Fellaini, Young, Jones, etc all at the world cup. Others injured.

I think Young will come in but since Shaw scored it'l be in polace of Darmien instead. I also think Lukaku will start and Fellaini will get the holding role.

Leave Pereira in and you're on to something. I hope Young comes in on the right, Darmian isn't any good and is on the record saying he wants to leave the club. He should play only as an absolute last resort.

I'd make 3 changes - Young for Darmian if fit, Lukaku for Rashford, and I would bring Fellaini in for Mata. Mata is too lightweight for this type of game, especially with a midfield with both Perreira and Fred. Horses for courses in this.

Would leave us a bit narrow, but hopefully Sanchez can unlock their defence with a bit more of a free role alongside Lukaku.

Good that the game is still 8 days away. Gives time to some of our world cup returning players to get more fitness and the injured guys a chance to recover before the game.

Hoping that Young returns to play at RB. Darmian is calamitous.

    De Gea
    Young Bailly Smalling Shaw
    Fred Pereira Pogba
    Sanchez
    Lukaku.......Martial

Great line up but I doubt Jose will play that team. Martial has a long way to get back into the first team I'm afraid and I think he prefers Rashford and Lingard

Time for the lads to build up some confidence ahead of the Spurs game.

Darmian needs to be dropped, he just isn't good enough and him and Mata down our right side spells trouble, as both are not famous for their speed. Lukaku needs to score to shake off that miss vs Schmeichel and Pereira will probably 99% start as he was real good against Leicester, so this is what I am predicting:

De Gea; Young, Bailly, Smalling, Shaw; Pereira, Fred, Pogba; Rashford, Lukaku, Sanchez.

Would also love to see Martial come off the bench and produce something positive.

I dont think he lacks technique or mobility. His passing is limited but generally reliable and when called upon he can be fantastic defensively as proven in the world cup against Brazil where he was influential

It just doesnt tally up that consecutive professional managers seem to rate him, he features heavily in a belgian set up brimming with quality, but redcafe largely think hes 'horrible.' He must have incriminating photos of all of these managers- or they know less than we do

Mate, Fellaini is a good player who adds something to teams which very few other players can add.
Moyes, LVG and now Jose all rate him highly, as does the Belgium manager. 4 managers cannot all be wrong.
I'm not saying that we should base our team around him, but he is a fantastic option to have, just in case we are deadlocked at 0-0 or 1-1 OR if the opponents are very physical.
The other thing he gives is an all-out effort. Where I've seen Martial and Pogba give sub-par efforts, I have never seen Fellaini do this. He always gets stuck in.

I disagree with @Ban. @Devil may care is rumoured to be lined up as Mourinhos replacement.

Mata is no good in games like this when teams press us, he goes invisible and offers no threat if we sit back and play breakaway style, so i would bring in Lingard for him and Lukaku for Rashford who was equally disappointing against Leicester.

    DDG

    Young
    Bailly
    Lindelof
    Shaw

    Pereira
    Fred
    Pogba

    Lingard
    Sanchez
    Lukaku

Subs: Grant, Darmian, Smalling, Fellaini, Mata, Rashford, Martial

This should be able to get a win.

I think that we will loose this one. I was absolutely not convinced by our performance on Friday against Leicester, whether tactically, physically or in terms of mentality.

Still think that we have a lot of gaps in the team (full backs, right wing, left wing), and the fact that important players like Pogba, Matic and Lukaku are not fit is really difficult.

And something that was painful against Leicester, was the fact that we were really poor on the ball and seemed like a small team. It's not a question of confidence, but it was an horror. We ran behind the ball at home against Leicester. I am not confident until all the big guns (Valencia, Pogba, Matic, Lukaku and Sanchez), will be fit and in good shape.

Reckon that Smalling will play away from home instead of Lindelof to get a better protection on duals.

This team looks so right to me. Brimming with pace and Power, plus it team incorporates our best 11 players.

I'd like to see it given a runout.

Think we will win and play well for a change, the players know what’s at stake. The first game was actually ruined by that early goal to be honest, at least as far as momentum goes. Not having to work for a goal, it kind of took away our sting I think, at least when Leicester didn’t have an answer for it.

Leicester were bad, Brighton are also shit... but they’re at home and they want to start their season again. 1-3 (Pogba, Sanchez, Fred)

The team is desperately missing Lingard (or a player of his ilk) right now. But seeing as we don't have anybody else like him, it's Jesse or bust.

We need to get a midfield 3 of Pogba, Pereira and Fred; together with a front 3 of Lukaku, Sanchez and Lingard.

Lingard might not be a glamourous name, but the way he drags defences all over the place and plays the one touch passes is vital to the tempo of our game. He gets the best out of everyone around him. The dimensions he brings are easy to miss if you only watch the game between glances of Twitter or Facebook.

It's utterly predictable how much better we play with him on the right, and how much worse we get when he's out of the team.

Brighton were the only team that couldn't even muster 1 shot on target.....against WATFORD :wenger:

If we go 1-0 up and then sit back, god help us
