It's probably our best lineup with what we have but Iooks very lightweight looking for what i expect Brentford to make a physical game. Can see us getting bullied.We are going all out attack here, not a single defensively sound midfielder in that lineup. Big test for Maguire and Martinez and that worries with. But I like the lineup, we should be creating a ton of chances here.Why did we sign Malacia? Shaw was crap last week. Dalot was terrible also.Have we not seen enough over the last few years to know that Fred isn’t a DM, despite his best endeavour and efforts?
We literally have one player that naturally fits the role and he’s an untested, inexperienced in the PL, younger member of the squad. Garner.2 man midfield. Neither midfielder in their natural positions. Only United do stupid sht like this. It is Brentford so hope we get away with it
This is why a ball-playing holding midfield was the first thing ten Hag identified as the position we needed to improve.
Unfortunately, the club couldn't get De Jong, but we're actively looking for a midfielder who can get on the ball and dictate play. It looks like Rabiot, who wouldn't be my first choice, but he is more comfortable on the ball than McTominay and Fred.Was expecting Malacia to start but other than that I'd say that's our best lineup atm.

I could be wrong, but I have a suspicion we might be trying Eriksen as the deepest midfielder, basically a poor man's De Jong.
But yeah, it could very easily just be Fred deep and we've seen that episode enough times to know how it plays out.Malacia for Shaw, Varane for Maguire, Garner for Fred. Eriksen has to be the single pivot, but what's he going to pass to with Fred and Bruno running headless? I think this will be another one we chalk up to ETH learning his players' strengths and weaknesses. I hope Brentford just makes it quick.

What would you have done differently?
I think it's our current best line up, maybe de Varane/Maguire debate and if Martial was healthy. But besides that I think this is our best line up even if it's underwhelming.McTominay being out feels promising.

You do know that it is not mandatory for a team to play with a defensive midfielder right? Perhaps the football managers have also noticed that Fred is not a defensive midfielder and are not as fussed about the team not having one as you are.No McTominay....Sweeet

I know this a stupid thing to say but I would have been in ETHOut camp had McTominay started today.Thomas Frank coming across all likeable on Sky right now but don't be deceived.
We all remember his carry on after we beat them in this fixture last season. The little bollocks.Probably our best lineup with the squad as is.
I think he will let them play their way into the team, you can't always go in and drop certain players straight away.
I would like to also see Malacia start as he is good at drifting into midfield and adding explosiveness.Fred and Erickson is better then McFred BUT it’s a very weak midfield, Fred loses the ball and Erickson is easily bullied.
