Anyone think this game will suit us, we will sit and counter attack when the opportunity presents, which suits Rashford.

We might get something from this, especially when no-one expects it.

I expected 3 points yesterday and huge effort after a week of Sancho's lack of anything media stories, but sadly we got nothing but a lesson in tactics and effort.

That works if you ignore the fact we're porous as feck at the back. As soon as Bayern score 1, that whole plan falls apart and then a capitulation is on the cards.

Especially away from home. It'll be ugly.

So where do we draw a line in the sand where it becomes a shock result? 8-0+?

    Harry Kane hat-trick incoming?

Their defence can be a bit ropey I think? so i'll go with 5-2 to them.

I don't even rate this Bayern team that highly but I'm still not looking forward to this one. We've made every team (with the possible exception of Arsenal) looks levels above what they actually are so far. I really don't want to see McTominay anywhere near the team for this one.

Need wingers and FBS in place just to stop their wingers and full backs.

Need to start pellestri and garnacho

Rashford on to stretch them with 20mins to go
    Hannibal midfield relief on 60mins

    Onana
    AWB. Lindelof. Martinez. Reguillon
    Casemiro. Eriksen
    Pellestri Bruno. Garnacho
    Hojlund

Blood bath. All kane has to do is put the ball either side of Onana and he'll score.

That's usually how goals work. Sometimes you can also go above the keeper.

With who is available its hard to see what EtH can do differently really?

Packing the midfield and sitting back would be a feasible approach until you realise McTom and Eriksen would be the ones doing the "packing" and they can't smell danger to save their lives.

But sometimes, sometimes my dear Dortmund supporting friend, sometimes the keeper can make a save.

We will turn up With the same players, feck knows what tactics we are playing.

    We need to drop Casemiro.

I get that you are pessimistic. But we are not yet in top shape and you should have a much easier time playing us than most teams. There will be no expectations regarding possession or anything like that for you. You can just sit back, park the bus and wait for counter attacks. That alone should make this a game fundamentally different from games against the likes of Brighton. I expect a close win for us. But nothing close to the slaughtering many here seem to fear.

Oh dear christ, do we have to show up?

Hope we don’t harbor any of that ‘mountains are there to be climbed’ horseshit. This could get uglier than yesterday.

Let us feel sorry for ourselves dammit!

Did you not watch us yesterday?

If we forfeit the game we'd only lose by 3 goals, right? :wenger::lol:

Fact you expected 3 points when our form has been terrible, we aren’t communicating and we have a couple of injuries is worrying. I hoped for 3, but only on the condition we turned things around.

You may not be in top shape but we aren’t even in first gear. You might be the guy at the gym who isn’t cut or super jacked but we are the guy with the bellio at the corner store picking up a large soda and a bunch of donuts.

something is very wrong with us, we aren’t doing the simple things of the game that championship and lesser sides are doing.
    It’s odd.

Bayern aren't better than Brighton, right? Right?? :nervous:
They are, but we had better success really against Arsenal than against Brighton, and Arsenal are for sure a better team than Brighton. It just seems that Brightons possession obsessed style is our worst kryptonite. Bayern are of course comfortably a better team than us but we have to hope that our style, whatever it is, works well against Bayern. Maybe we can come out of it with some dignity.

So, I'm looking at these stats in regards to Bayern's streak of winning their opening CL match.

18 straight victories in their opening match. They haven't lost their first match since 2002. In the middle of this streak was one season, 07/08, in which they didn't compete in the CL. Can't remember what the hell happened that they didn't qualify.

In these 18 matches they have outscored their opponents 45-2

They've kept a clean sheet in their opening match for 9 straight seasons. The last club to score on Bayern on opening day was Valencia in 2012/13 in a 2-1 loss.

The pragmatic side of me says, determine whichever players we have right now that we consider good enough to rest, and rest those players for the weekend, because we can't realistically expect anything in Munich and if we lose to Burnley it's going to be a catastrophe.

Kind of made my peace with this. Bayern away is a tough ask even if we pull the 99 Treble side out of a time machine, so just getting this out of the way as a bit of a free hit while we're in disarray probably isn't the worst thing.

After this we've got seven (theoretically) very winnable games to take us up the the end of October, hopefully getting some players back and playing others into a bit of form. It's been a shocking start to the season, but even if we get bummed here, it shouldn't matter very much as long as we turn it around afterwards as we did with the shit start to last season.
