    Casemiro. Fred
    Sabitzer
    Sancho Rashford
    Bruno

Essential that we combat FDJ because he will step through midfield all day. Energy of Sabitzer and Fred can handle him and Casemiro shores up that midfield nicely. and Bruno more of a ten…with Rashford and Sancho on the break.

    Martinez and Sabitzer can't play.

I think Pedri and Gavi are going to cause us to be chasing shadows most of the game. Just hope we can hit them on the counter.

They're class when going forward. Gavi is the tireless midfielder we wish McT was. Their defence is shaky though Ter Stegen is having a world class season.

Actually in recent matches our attack has been missing the final touch, and there are many mispasses in the final third. Also Lewandowski has been average since the WC given his standards and his form in the first half of the season.

On the other hand, our defence has been solid. It's not just Ter Stegen, but all our back four have been outstanding.

    Why can't Sabitzer play?

I think they will have too many good players for us at our current stage.

Sit deep, frustrate them and look to hit on the counter.

Fred/Casemiro should do a good job of breaking their attacks up, and with our ability to counter we should definitely get chances.

We really shouldn't struggle if we stay compact and try not to play out like we did against Arsenal for their first goal. They are not as creatively brilliant as one would think, and we can always cause them problems on the break. I think it'll be a 1-1 draw

They have been more composed and solid of late and are on a good run. But they aren‘t winning games with tons of goals.

We can press them and try to force turnovers. With Casemiro in dm we will be more composed.

There are three press resistant midfielders, so we should press their defenders.

I watched a bit of Villareal-Barça and they pressed them as well. They weren‘t played off the park.

We have plenty of threat up front with Rashford and Garnacho or Sancho. Weghorst will probably play for his pressing and hold up play, which has been good.

Is there any update on the fitness of Antony, Martial or Mctominay? With the likes of Sabitzer, Martinez and Eriksen already out for various reasons, we could do with Antony and Martial being fit.

If they are not fit, we need to park the fecking bus and ensure we get either a draw or a very narrow defeat.

Because at home I am confident with Martinez, Sabitzer, Antony and Martial being back we can beat them.

Not sure why so many are non-plussed about this. Top 4 is a near certainty (73% chance). Winning the league is almost certainly not going to happen (3%). Barcelona are a quality team and doing well in La Liga. What better way to show our potential for greatness in Europe from next season forward by... doing well in Europe this season?
For me, it's because I certainly don't see top 4 as a near certainty.

Also, 73% is not 'near certain'. Would you press a button that has a 27% chance to kill you?

What's the alternative if I don't push the button?

Can't see any other options other than...

    DDG
    AWB Varane Shaw Malacia
    Casemiro Fred
    Sancho Bruno Garnacho
    Rashford

I want that to be the team on Thursday.

I think we'll see the following:

    De Gea
    Wan-Bissaka Varane Shaw Malacia
    Casemiro Fred
    Sancho Bruno Rashford
    Weghorst

Nice win of 0-1 and going into home leg with a nice away goal would be nice.

Did I mention what would be nice?

Didn't realize Barca have been on such a good run. Looks like we'll do well to leave with a draw of some kind, especially without Sabitzer and Martinez.

 when you put it like that

It would take a serious collapse from here IMO for both Newcastle and one of Chelsea/Tottenham/Liverpool to make it ahead of us, I'm strangely confident we will finish in the top 4 so why not give it a go in the EL, and snag a top seed/trophy in the process?

But I acknowledge my confidence is a bit irrational...

I just hope we don't lose to badly in this game. There GA is fecking 7. Just can't see us winning this tie.

I would be delighted with a draw. I do think we will lose this one though, and we've got to perform better than in recent times. The good thing is that Casemiro is back, but we will still be missing some key players. Hopefully we try to sit and counter.

Genuinely see no reason to play Weghorst, they will play a high line and look to dominate possession, we need quick transitions and runners and Rashford up top is 100x better than Weghorst for this game

Would be great but will be very tough given fixture congestion IMO. Our lack of fit and firing attackers is a huge loss.

If Eriksen, Antony, Martial were all fit, Sabitzer and Martinez weren't suspended the first leg... Then sure. But we have a cup final coming up, have too many players out or off form, and still have FA Cup in there.. just think it's a competition we'll drop out at (and especially given the level Barca are playing at).

Yeah all of those available (obviously Sabitzer wouldn't be here if Eriksen was fit) and think we could have really troubled them

Xavi has done a great job with this Barcelona team. But so has Ten Hag, I think we can steal something here

Don't see any of those three travelling when you look at what Erik said in Leeds presser

With Rashford we're already a goal up, people talk about their league position forgetting they're in the Europa league because they got knocked out of the ucl drawing 3:3 at the camp nou to inter and loosing 2:1 away. We've beaten better sides this season.

Yup. A draw will be a great result considering our squad situation. A score draw with us equalising late on will be a postive as well.

    De Gea
    AWB - Varane - Shaw - Malacia
    Casemiro - Fred
    Bruno - Mainoo - Sancho
    Rashford
I think we'll need to flood the midfield so it's fecking shit that Sabitzer and McTominay are unavailable. I think we'll need Mainoo or Iqbal in there.

More chance of seeing Lindelof there before either of them I reckon.
