    Donny get another start after an invisible performance is weird. Expect to see a drastic increase in activity from him as a minimum. Suggests to me that ETH is beginning to phase out McTominay and Fred, even if Donny isn't the answer.

    Interested to see who starts on which flank, will Rashford start on the left due to his seniority, or will he be seen as more versatile and moved to the right with Garnacho on the left.

    Martial on the bench is a huge plus.

    We know who the captain is, Ronaldo getting it for a game means nothing. I agree with the poster above, I think ETH is playing this the right way. You think you should be starting? Here you go, here’s the armband, prove it.

    Also he has to manage egos and until we sign another forward and whilst Ronaldo is here there’ll always be some pandering and false love towards him. I’m hopeful he’s gone in Jan but at the latest he’s gone in summer.

    Why stop there?

    When Greenwood gets released from prison and doesn't get any respect or opportunityies ten hag should just bring him back to the club and make him captain to ''call his number and prove himself?''

    Then how do you explain Ronaldo not even getting subbed anymore despite putting mediocre performances. Ten Hag has had to shuffle everyone to keep Ronaldo.

    Like I said right now it's a suspicion which keeps growing. I'll watch today and see if Ten Hag will have Martial come in for Ronaldo (he's likely putting in another indifferent performance) or will shuffle everyone to keep him on the pitch.

    Fred is a valuable squad option, mctominay absolutely needs upgrading though.

    Doesn’t suggest that at all. It suggests he wants Donny to play the more attacking role which Fred and McTominay don’t play. I am surprised at the start but will see how he does.
     
    I for one, used to bleat about VDB not getting a fair opportunity. Well he’s getting it now. If there’s a future for him at Utd he needs to start showing his quality now.
    Last chance saloon methinks.

    They have some pace up top.. that's the biggest concern defensively..

    Lineup looks quite shite. Was hoping for Fred to come in so Eriksen could be released to play number 10.

    If Ten Hag pulls out a win without Varane, Fernandes and so many forwards he deserves alot of credit.
     
    I am confident VDB will start to improve once he gets playing time. He needs 6-7 games in six weeks to be “judgable”. His playing record for the last 3 seasons is a nightmare. ETH is his manager.

    We haven't really seen Donny play the NO 10 role in a competitive full squad. When ever he comes, He always look Lost. Maybe he will prove us wrong today. But I feel Fred at least could have offered us more

    No chance he gets that at United. Get him sold in January for whatever we can get.
     
    Hmm, I expected Ronaldo to start given the absences but wasn’t expecting him to be captain. Doesn’t set a great example after his behaviour a couple of weeks ago. Rashford or DDG would have sent a better message.

    Will Garnacho play right? Really don’t want to see us play Rashford there.
     
    Interesting lineup.

    Donny being out into Bruno’s role. Bruno has been on a poor run of form and there were umpteen calls for him to be dropped. If Donny has another stinker it could be curtains for him.

    Love the start for Garnacho, deserves that. Hopefully he’s out on the left.

    Ronaldo captain, meh, so what, not sure why everyone’s getting their knickers in a twist. It’s an armband - like giving the left out kid a made up badge so he fits in with everyone else and doesn’t throw a shitfit because we’re hungover and cannot deal with his antics.
     
    Super nervous now. I fear its like playing with 10 men when Donny starts. Hopefully i will be proven wrong

    It shows how stupid the decision if it's based on calling a ''players number to prove themselves''

    You can undermine the manager, walk off mid way through a game without any permission, go on strike, come back play like garbage and be rewarded with guaranteed first team place plus the captaincy.

    No one can justify rewarding this prick with the captaincy let alone guarenteed starts(with no assurance of not being subbed) after the stunts he's pulled. This is an Ole move if there ever was one by ETH.
