I almost feel sorry for Arsene here. The reporter is being a right cnut. LVG or Sir Alex would've given this upstart a piece of their mind. Amazing how one of the league's top and longest serving managers is allowed to tolerate this sort of abuse.

I agree. What a bunch of little media shits.

I feel a bit sorry for I'm there too, the journalist is a knob. Does have a point about Arsene being untouchable though...

I don't remember us playing as thuggish as in this match. Out of curiosity, did Viera got sent off in this match for trying to injure RvN?

I think that match you are talking about was in the invincible season. Match ended 0-0 with rvn missing an injury time penalty and a huge fight took place post game with keown and Cole and all got suspended iirc

This match is the one where the run ended I think . This was the pizzagate match where someone (rumoured to be cesc) threw a pizza at SAF post game

    Yep, you're right. Cheers!

Imagine they tried to pull that shit with SAF. They would never see the walls of Carrington again.

The reporter was a right prick. Carefully worded questions designed to put the heat on Arsene. No doubt the reporter had the practiced those questions in the mirror the night before and had a giggle about it after with his other press mates.

Despite that, I thought Arsene handled the questions well.

SAF and LvG would have shut the reporter down, belittled them and told them they didn't know anything about football. It would be awkward was a feck but it would work because the press would not have any quotes to hold them accountable to. Arsene needs to work on that. Instead he sat through their bullshit, had a go, threatened to leave then carried on as nothing had happened. Only for another reporter to pipe up with a dig about who he has decided to play in goal at the weekend and he was back being the sitting duck.

I am surprised by the manner in which the Arsenal press conferences are conducted ,the journo acted like a prick but wtf was the press officer doing. The United press officer would never have allowed the journo to ask 5-6 followup questions in such a disrespectful manner

Schweinsteiger has to rest some time, and there are no easy games for him to do so coming up. Despite coming off, I expect he's knackered after the Wolfsburg game, he ran his legs off all match long and isn't young any more. Carrick has repeatedly had his best games against Arsenal, he knows how to play Wenger's sides, this would be an opportune moment to use that experience. Then Bastian can come back in for Everton, City etc.

As for Blind, I just have the uncomfortable feeling that Van Gaal has been waiting for an opportunity to start Jones, and will see Blind's mistakes against Wolfsburg as an excuse to do it now. Which would be a mistake in my opinion, because Blind has otherwise been excellent and is important to the way we play.
If you're right and he's still an automatic starter I'll be very pleased.

LVG gave Jones only 20 mins of game time when he could have given him 45 mins (At half time, LVG replaced Valencia with Young at Right back, a position Jones is very good at).

Suggests that LVG does not think Jones is close to match fitness yet to start a game.

The logic would work except that the bolded bit is entirely wrong. Jones has been consistently terrible in any position other than CB.

Darmian has to start at right back to nullify the threat of Alexis Sanchez, so I'd expect Young to come in at left back, he hasn't done anything wrong in that role thus far.

With Schweinsteiger coming off against Wolfsburg mid week, I'm expecting him to start, although with Carrick completely rested it'll be interesting to see if we go with both for this game. Would be great for ball retention and Carrick is a great positional defender, but the lack of legs in there would be a worry. Think it could be a decent option for the first 45-60 minutes, then make substitutions when the game gets stretched a bit more.

I think the rest of the team pick themselves so long as they are fit and fresh enough.

This is what I was thinking as well. The way I see it is how confident LvG in our ability to control the game against Arsenal. If he thinks we can control possession, it is Carrick and Bastian in the middle, they are as good as it gets when it comes to keeping the ball. If he anticipates Arsenal to be too good, it is Schneiderlin there to harass them and not give them time on the ball.

First Fergie would have send him out. Second he would do this:

Darmian was playing the Wolfsburg player onside as well tbh.
Yeah you can point to every defender+Schneiderlin in that action and say he did something wrong but in the end we need to give credit to Wolfsburg attack too because it was a really nice move. The fact that they couldn't break defense like that again tells me it was just a blip.

But i hated how they pointed in the studio at Blind in that action that he could do better and that we need a real defender instead of him because he don't have that defender's instinct. I hate it because they smack him down with everything that is possible and don't give him credit when he deserves it. It is easy pointing out what someone could do after you know what will happen but in the end if defenders wouldn't do mistakes there would be no goals - even the best defenders make mistakes.

But Valencia was in completely wrong position which is the biggest worry even if Darmian would still play their attacker onside.

Looking forward to seeing Martial's pace against Mertesacker.

Also with koscielny out, Gabriel will be in which is always a good thing

Amazed Wenger didn't just walk out of that. Got pissed just listening to the questions how pointless and repetitive they were.

Em, no. He is not a plague. He is Rooney. Who has brought many great moments to United. Who has been happy to play in all sorts of positions, in all sorts of positions. Who has a great eye for a pass, who is unselfish, who causes defenders all kinds of bother, and who is a key player in Van Gaal's project and one of a few vital links to the traditions that keep the identity of this amazing club. And who is a man who deserves the respect and affection and support of United fans, long term.
You forgot to mention he is also severely out of form

Walcott has 10 goals in his last 12 goals, so aside from Sanchez he's the obvious dangerman. While his skillset isn't particularly diverse, he's obviously rapid and a strong enough finisher to compensate for it. We probably will have to sit deeper than usual to counter that, but that risks leaving more space in front of the six yard box for Sanchez and Ramsey. I think we handled Sanchez well enough at the Emirates last season, although we were undoubtedly lucky to win that game. I'd say Morgan and Bastian are a must for this game, but the former has got to pick himself up quickly from that lacklustre performance against Wolfsburg. We got away with it in that game, as we did against Southampton where Mane ran riot from the sort of positions that Sanchez likes to take up. I doubt that LVG will break up the Blind-Smalling partnership and rightly so, but whoever starts at full back out of Valencia or Young will have it tough, very tough. Darmian at left back can help prevent Blind being isolated against Walcott.

Martial is the key once again in offence, and teams aren't doubling up on him yet, as they are with poor Memphis. Mertesacker is the obvious target here but I fancy him against Monreal too, just like he got the better of Ricardo Rodriguez on a few occasions on Wednesday. I'm going for a 1-2 win to us.

A win would be absolutely fantastic, Wenger will do all he can not to lose this game. Can see Memphis having a great game.
    Went for a 1-1 draw

Smalling Blind partnership did not happen because of Jones injury. It has been there since preseason when LVG split the team into two groups. Mike and Blind in one, Rojo and Jones in the other.

Suggestions that Blind was responsible for Wolfsburg goal is ridiculous.

The sheer arrogance of the man in his press conference astounded me.
Ospina cost you in a must win game Arsene, a decision you made. A decision you failed to discuss post match because 'you didn't have to explain yourself to anybody.'
Now you're shocked that people are still bringing it up, but why? You haven't addressed it. In no way whatsoever have you accepted responsibility for your decision.
Just remember that the next time you do this...
    http://www.dailystar.co.uk/sport/football/465614/Arsene-Wenger-blasts-Mike-Dean-Arsenal-Chelsea
...is now boring and lacking in creativity.
Then you accuse the press that they can't assess how or where the game was lost.
Arsene, it's obviously not that easy since you are making the same mistakes year in, year out with no adjustment.
This is what happens when a man is so comfortable and safe in his job. Why does he have to accept and address the consequences of his decisions when he can just ignore the fallout like it's not all his doing?
He more or less has tenure at Arsenal.

:lol::lol: The media didn't appoint Wenger, they are not his boss. He doesn't owe them any explanation.

Im sure Jones and Blind were partnered together in pretty much all pre season games. Or did I miss something?

You are right. My mistake. Anyway, Blind CB has always been in the frame. Not as a result of injury.

If LVG was planning to leave out any of them it was Smalling not Blind IMO. It looked like we were heading for a Jones - Blind partership. So I agree with you on the issue about Blind.

    2-1 defeat.

It'd be a routine win if we'd be playing a counter attacking football like before. Us playing possession football nowadays directly plays into Arsenal's hands.

We went there last year and played them on the counter, could of been 3-1 if di maria hadn't fecked his easy chance.

Louis loves possession but he loves tactics just as much, we will definitely be looking to take advantage of their tendency to rush forward.

Concerned about Walcott on Blind, especially since we play a reasonably high line. Valencia against Sanchez doesn't worry me as much but I'd rather see Darmian play on the right and Young on the left.

Other than that, we got this.

this. Especially if we play possession football with a high line. Could be disastrous. I actually think we will play a little deeper than usual.

Wenger came across really well in that interview. He answered the question the reporter then tried to goad him three times, once with an incredibly over wordy over pre-scripted question designed to try and get the answer he wanted and Wenger responded calmly and concisely and shut him down in, to me, a very polite manner.

Tomorrow will be a routine win, I went for 3-2 only because Arsenal aren't going to let us have the ball but they will be without it for periods and that's when we'll punish them. They're not disciplined enough at the back to cope with us having the ball for a spell.

Ok let me reword it. I just felt more confident of winning in Fergie's later years whenhe sussed them out and deliberately setup to defend deep and counter.

He should have told been firmer with the journo. He takes far too much shit from these cnuts.

He's always been like that sadly which is why despite what people thought of how draconian SAF was at times in banning the press, nobody can argue with the results.

Arsene tends to take a "we're all friends and I realise you're just doing your job" approach but sadly if you give the press an inch they take a mile, they've never treated him with the same respect that he at times treats them with (baring the odd stroppy interview that he gives).
