We should play Fellaini in this game, Arsenal would struggle to cope with him at the back. They'd either have to drop a DM deep, creating space for our midfielders or push up one of their CB's. Creating space for Martial. Imagine Martial getting the chance to run at Mertersacker 1v1

Personally I'd drop Rooney, no better way to fire him up than to drop him to the bench and give him something to prove. But I know neither of these things are going to happen and we are going to continue with Rooney at #10

Per would be marking fellaini in this scenario. Did so to good effect last time we played them

The sheer arrogance of the man in his press conference astounded me.
Ospina cost you in a must win game Arsene, a decision you made. A decision you failed to discuss post match because 'you didn't have to explain yourself to anybody.'
Now you're shocked that people are still bringing it up, but why? You haven't addressed it. In no way whatsoever have you accepted responsibility for your decision.
Just remember that the next time you do this...

...is now boring and lacking in creativity.
Then you accuse the press that they can't assess how or where the game was lost.
Arsene, it's obviously not that easy since you are making the same mistakes year in, year out with no adjustment.
This is what happens when a man is so comfortable and safe in his job. Why does he have to accept and address the consequences of his decisions when he can just ignore the fallout like it's not all his doing?
He more or less has tenure at Arsenal.

He apparently said that Cech had a knock, so if true the question is boring. They should have asked about that, that was an interesting question.

I see that LVG has talked about players being tired whilst also saying that, when Fellaini plays, Rooney will play striker ahead of him.

Is he thinking of lining up Fellaini behind Rooney for the extra muscle, with Martial on the bench?

When did LvG say this? That basically means Rooney wont be dropped regardless of form, Martial will be dumped to the bench so he can stink up the #9 position.

If there's one team we don't need extra muscle against it's Arsenal, their biggest threat is pace not power.

Wouldn't be possible every single time, plus I'd give Martial a go vs Gabriel as well. Skysports think Gabriel is probably going to shut Marital down based on the fact that he's quicker than Martial and hasn't been dribbled past yet this season. Link to article

    About halfway through this...

Re Arsenal - that's exactly how Fergie used to beat them - by out muscling them.

I almost feel sorry for Arsene here. The reporter is being a right cnut. LVG or Sir Alex would've given this upstart a piece of their mind. Amazing how one of the league's top and longest serving managers is allowed to tolerate this sort of abuse.

I find it funny the amount of criticism Rooney is getting, yet is still nailed down on the starting 11  He's a plague isn't he

You're missing his point really. He picked the squad ( a good one) and one player made a mistake that may have cost them the match. In the grand scheme of things it's a non-issue cause ANY other player could have made a mistake costing them the game. Players aren't immune to bad passes and goalkeepers aren't immune to dropping the ball either; that being said, to explain to the world why a top keeper like Ospina dropped the ball is ridiculous in the grand scheme of the 90+ mins of the game. There was a lot more to it than Ospina that cost Arsenal that game.

That is the Moyes way of thinking: how can we neutralize the other team's capabilities?

LVG philosophy is the opposite: take the initiative and let the other team worry.

I never suggested we cater our strategy to curb their threat as I don't think we can anyway, I expect us to go and try to impose our passing game on them and dominate the ball.

    Oh Arsene

It's a shit question to be fair. He has two top GK's and picked one who made a mistake. Why should a manager explain a choice like that to the press? The problem here is that goalkeeping mistakes are more amplified than the other 10 players on the pitch, who may or may not have cover.

Martial will make Wenger regret his comments at the end of the window. If Martial isn't completely marked out of the game Wenger will be in for a load more flack after the game.

btw in the Lineup Prediction League Table who is 3rd?

This is correct. Rooney will not be dropped. "He is the Captain and the Captain always plays" (injury permitting), regardless of form.

1-2 to us. Rooney brace. :p

LOL thats the same sort of thing people said about Falcao last year.
And when I asked people on what they were basing this prediction on, I got no answer.

Rooney can certainly score a penalty (but I think Mata is on penalties now) and we know that Rooney can get a lucky goal (like his solitary EPL goal this season), but I just don't see him being able to score 2 goals, on purpose, from open play, against a senior team. Even against San Marino, he couldn't score from open play.

Logically, I just can't see him scoring a goal against Arsenal. Stranger things have happened, though. ;)

I don't remember us playing as thuggish as in this match. Out of curiosity, did Viera got sent off in this match for trying to injure RvN?
We only ever got that physical against Arsenal. Fergie always said his team talk to the players when we played Arsenal was "They're soft, get in their faces and give them a hard time, they don't like it". That's why the matches we're always so great to watch. I can't remember much about that game in particular other than fighting in the tunnel after the game and the Rooney penalty.

I disagree. Rooney better upfront. Felli on bench

Em, no. He is not a plague. He is Rooney. Who has brought many great moments to United. Who has been happy to play in all sorts of positions, in all sorts of positions. Who has a great eye for a pass, who is unselfish, who causes defenders all kinds of bother, and who is a key player in Van Gaal's project and one of a few vital links to the traditions that keep the identity of this amazing club. And who is a man who deserves the respect and affection and support of United fans, long term.

Difference being, Falcao hadn't scored 14 goals against Arsenal, whereas Rooney has, which is what I'm basing my prediction on, bad form or not.

We don't need muscle to deal with them but playing Fellaini could mean they'd need muscle to deal with us, which they don't have. I'm all for giving Afro a game behind martial but no way Rooney will sit this one out.
