No rest. This is a trophy we need to go for it and a game against Arsenal, then we will face somehow an easier tie vs Burnley so, no point from keeping anyone out. Only Alexis in for Martial and Shaw for Dalot IMO.

We have to play our strongest team , we are not winning the PL or the CL , the FA Cup is our only chance of winning something this season.
I dont get the posters saying they would take an exit from the FA Cup, that just mental.
Not playing DDG is a massive mistake for me.

We have to start to rest Paul Pogba. He will surely, surely hit 'a wall' at some stage. Guy played through the World Cup.. you know when players do not rest, it is when the chances of injury increase?

Other players have to step up and establish their own say on the team.
He has rested some few games with Jose.

Got 2-3 weeks off with the Clueless One in charge.

This. I don't know if OGS watched some few minutes from our game vs Arsenal last season when DDG made an unbelievable game or not!

I wouldn't expect us to rotate any players tbh. We should be playing our best team.

We might play Lukaku only if Rashford isn't fully fit.

Arsenal away should suit Lukaku in that they will give him space to run into.

Although the Brighton game was horrendous both are better than Jones - 1 game isn't enough to just give up on it. Work with Phelan could help.
Bailly is not better than Jones for a start, and Lindelof has formed a very good partnership with Jones that he is unlikely to replicate next to Bailly.

Lukaku running into space? Good one.

What is wrong with what i said?

Lukaku is incredibly immobile and even when he does run and gets the ball at his feet he'll lose it anyway. He's a liability for a club trying to reach the top. He can score goals, absolutely no question about that but not a player I want in our squad in a year.

I disagree that he's a liability. I still believe he is capable, just in the right circumstances. Arsenal away is the perfect opportunity for him. They will give him lots of space, where his poor first touch will not be as important.

Now I definitely agree that going forward, Rashford is the first choice striker for us. Lukaku does not offer the link-up play and just all around play that Rashford offers. I agree that we can expect more of our first choice striker than just goals.

But, Lukaku is still capable of doing a job when we need to give Rashford a rest, which is all I'm saying.

To be fair, he's had a fair amount of rest thanks to our ex-manager

To be fair, he’s no Ciro Immobile.

Jones has been shaky in every game actually and looks likely to make a mistake at any moment. Bailly far more talented and needs a run of games.

Unless Bailly calms down and fine tunes his game then he won't be here much longer. Jones should be gone this summer.

God i'm so hyped for this game.

I want to beat Arsenal whenever but I'm desperate to knock them out of the cup at their place.

What is the chance of us seeing this attacking trio today?

    —————Rashford————
    Martial——————Sanchez

I would like to see that, and really hope Sanchez can rediscover his form. A world class Sanchez would be a game changer for us. Fingers crossed!

I'd go full strength for the cup. Even if we didn't have Burnly at home in the midweek, I would still prioritise silverware over a mid season game

    Romero

    Young, Jones, Lindelof, Shaw

    Herrera, Matic, Pogba

    Lingard, Rashford, Martial

The team is picking itself at the moment, but I had some question marks on my prefrreed selection above:

    1) Do we continue our policy of starting Romero in domestic cups?

    2) Was tempted to go Dalot, but his defensive positioning isn't there yet, so Young starts in the bigger games (for now)

    3) I would start Sanchez over Lingard, but his lack of mins in the last 2 games suggests he is not fit to go straight into a big game

    4) Jones is probably the player with the lowest level of performance under OGS in the 1st team. Not saying he is rubbish, but with Bailley back from suspension there is case for rotation. Personally I'd stick with this partnership and try Bailley again v Burnley. Also, the fact it was Darmian not Bailley that was brought on in the closing minutes v Brighton has raised an eyebrow
    Great post. I agree

So what has Ole said in his pressers? Who's starting for sure? Is it Romero in goal again or are taking this more seriously?
I would say Romero in goal is taking things seriously. You can’t have a 2nd keeper of top class and not give him any important matches. You need to stimulate him and you need him fit in case DDG gets injured.

Is Rashford actually fit? remember he took quite a knock to his knee and limped off last match.

Ole made a good observation recently, stating that good defenders shouldn't spend too much time on the floor, because they read the game. When Bailly arrived, he seemed a yard ahead of attackers, stepping in, moving forward, sweeping up danger.. v v few lunges.

Then, our game under Mourinho' deteriorated, placing all defenders under more pressure, and none of the defence looked like they could cope..even DDG form dropped a little.

If we can get Bailly to play with that balance and authority again, then we have an amazing player there.

Let's see. A good Bailly is significantly better than a good Phil Jones

It's funny how we all post in here about wanting to play attacking football and be entertained, some of us aren't really bothered about the FA cup or winning tonight but about 5 minutes to kick off 99% of us will be thinking "Just win and win under any circumstance possible".

    Confirmed squad members:

    Expected team:

    Romero
    Young Bailly Lindelof Shaw
    Herrera Matic Pogba
    Lingard Rashford Martial
    ---
Grant; Dalot, Jones; Fred, Mata; Sanchez, Lukaku
Woah, seriously De Gea didn't travelled?! No new contract McT either.
Sergio Romero, Lee Grant, Joel Pereira; Diogo Dalot, Phil Jones, Eric Bailly, Victor Lindelof, Luke Shaw, Ashley Young; Fred, Nemanja Matic, Ander Herrera, Andreas Pereira, Paul Pogba; Jesse Lingard, Juan Mata, Alexis Sanchez, Anthony Martial, Romelu Lukaku, Marcus Rashford

Yeah, same, wanting that line-up but..

It's a toss between either Bailly or Jones. Prefer Bailly since he may be a better choice talent-wise to combat Auba and Lacazette but then he can be so rash and we need 11 players to play, not 10. Ole may use the same partnership and pick Jones.

Ole's press, doesn't sound like Sanchez starting, not fit enough. Same trident then.

Can't wait for this game... Got me feeling all nostalgic for that game 20 years ago.

It's quite an eventful recent history we have against Arsenal in this competition - can see tonight's game being a cracker.

Proper observation, I am definitely one of the 99, it is part of the pleasure here! :D

When has Romero ever let us down? We won the Europa with him in goal
He was a better keeper than De Gea that season. It was some what ludicrous that De Gea was in the Premier League team of the season, as he was really average. Romero was picked on merit by the end.

I'd play De Gea over Romero here, but can fully understand the club thinking long term and wanting to keep Romero sweet. He's an absolute joy to have as a #2.
