The MMA thread

I quite enjoy womans fighting... apart from gina  i actually dont mind watching it... i have trained with rossi sexton... she is very very good... bloody clever as well- realy understands about ways to train...

yeah strikeforse without fedor or moussasi fighting is a bit lame...

moussassi is training with gsp now... (as well as still taining with fedor and the muay thai guys in holland)... he is going to be so fecking good by the time he goes to the ufc...
We have a couple of girls in our muay thai class and they look pretty alright (looks wise, not skills wise:D) and all. I've watched women fight in the world sanshau competitions and it was alright with the head gear and all. For mma though, no thank you...but hey that's just me.

I heard about Moussasi training with GSP. I think he's going to dominate the feck out of the UFC when he gets there. Guy's just a beast.

Yeh, he's 24 I think. He has an amazing record plus his two losses have been to armbars which means he was just inexperienced back then. He's a force to be reckoned with.

yup 15 straight wins... not lost since he was 21...

included in that 15 are cyborg, babalou, kang, meinhof and sokodjou...

i think lhw suits him better... get him in the ufc where he would be fighting 3 or 4 times a year and i think he could step up another level

infact mousasi and rua is a fight id love to see...

my picks for tonight

Randy Couture vs. Mark Coleman
Nate Marquardt vs. Chael Sonnen
Mike Swick vs Paulo Thiago
Demian Maia vs Dan Miller
Matt Serra vs Frank Trigg

I have a feeling I could fall asleep during the Couture-Coleman fight.

At 5:30?? You bet i'm gona be dozing, whether it be boredom from the fight or actual exhaustion. Couture just does the same crap over and over. Somehow always manages to squeeze victories

I like Randy but I really find his style extremely tedious. Coleman bores the hell out of me as well. I'll try and stay awake, but I wouldn't expect this one to be fight of the night or anything.

It is very tedious, and maybe against Lesnar it was deemed necessary to combat Lesnars superior cardio. But against lesser opponents it's not what he should be doin. It's like United playing a midfield three against Bolton

dana was talking him up as a top 5 lhw yesterday... :wenger:

imo he is nowhere close to that
rua
macheda
A Silva (if he switched to 205)
mousasi (ok not ufc)
lil ***
Jackson
Evans
Belfort (if he fights at 205)
Griffin
T Slva
Franklin (if he stays at 205)
Jones
Id even have vera ahead of him...

certainly not top5 imo...

perhaps they should start a seniors division for him the hammer, chuck, tito etc...

very very good wrestler but i think he lost the vera fight... and the last win he had before that was in 2007... his last lhw win was in august 2005

long way off top 5... even by danas standards hes being silly with that...

if he does win and i think he will against coleman perhaos he will fight lil *** next with the winner getting a title shot?

I love watching UFC, but staying up all night is just out of the question for me.

not long till the oz one though... presumably that will be morning time here?

and abu dabi will that be afternoon?

and i guess at least one european event before the end of the year

strikeforce look to be in trouble... look at their next 2 cards...

terrible...

unless they come back in april with something like
fedor vs overeem
moussasi vs king mo
henderson vs shields

they are going to struggle... they have some big fights they can make but they seem reluctant to do so...

Good Lord. Couture v Coleman. What is this 1998?

Not even gonna stay up for that card.

I know a lot of people are giving th card stick... and ill as per usual just record it and watch it sunday morning...

but in the uk for £10 a month I still think we get a pretty good deal...

look at the UFC fights in the next month
Randy Couture vs.Mark Coleman
Nate Marquardt vs. Chael Sonnen
Mike Swick vs. Brazil Paulo Thiago
Demian Maia vs. Dan Miller
Matt Serra vs. Frank Trigg

and in a couple of weeks

Nogueira vs. Velasquez[1]
* Wanderlei Silva vs. Michael Bisping[1]
Joe Stevenson vs. George Sotiropoulos[1]
Keith Jardine vs. Ryan Bader[1]
Croatia Mirko Filipović vs. Ben Rothwell[1]

if they had made one card of
Nogueira vs. Velasquez[1]
* Wanderlei Silva vs. Michael Bisping[1]
Randy Couture vs.Mark Coleman
Nate Marquardt vs. Chael Sonnen
Mike Swick vs. Brazil Paulo Thiago

it would be a great card but id be annoyed at not seeing maia and rothwell

next month we have
jones, dos santos, kongo and rumble on one show where guida only makes the undercard... and its not even a full ufc... and then
gsp vs hardy
mir vs carwin
fitch vs alves
kampaman vs saunders

it seems they have too many good fighters to do one show a month but not quite enough to do an amazing card twice a month...

perhaps they should just go for every 3 weeks and do 18 big shows a year?

perhaps showcase other fights on tuf say 1 or 2 a week it would liven up the tuf format and give some good airtime to up and coming stars plus ex tuf contestants etc...

how good did sonnen look...

if silva wins against belfort that is looking like a tough fight as his wrestling was superb

Im new to UFC but have been watching every event since UFC 100.

Watched 109 this morning and enjoyed. Was Couture just really good or Coleman terrible?

Loved the Sonnen fight 2nd time I have seen him and he looks great.

Did anyone see the prelim fight with Rolles Gracie? WTF happened to him? He was knackered after 2 mins

Sonnen really impressed me. I was actually shocked. I thought Nate had it in the bag. But he did cut him up pretty bad.

Isn't silva's take down defense superb or something? Still, I think Sonner would be able to take him down at some point in the fight.

Coleman's shit. He looked gassed walking towards the octagon. Couture is said to be getting a title shot now against winner of shogun and machida. I can't see couture anywhere near the elite of the LHW. As Ezee already mentioned in his list above, the fighters I would rate above him are Shogun, Machida, Anderson Silva, Rampage, Thiago Silva, Evans, Jon Jones, and quite possibly Chuck depending on which chuck we see.
I didn't see the prelims. Did gracie win or lose? Can I get the other results too? I'm interested in the Guillard, Hague, and Emerson fights.

silva's balance is off the hook and his bjj is very good... with such long limbs and being so flexible he can attack much better off his back...

plus he is always likley to catch you with something as you shoot in at him...

he sub'd henderson... but he has not had that many fights against wrestlers so i would be interested to see how he approached a fight with sonnen... i suspect in a blur of flying knees and elbows and making sonnen fight off his back

also in the last 5 years sonnens only defeats have come to submissions... 2X arm bars and 2X triangles (3 bjj black belts and jeremy horn... who clearly would walk a bjj blackbelt if he wanted one)... if silva wins against belfort and sonnen then he realy will have cleared out the division...

all thats left for silva thhen i guess is either a crack at the lhw title (presuming macheda or noguera are not champions)... or the ultimate fight... ie fedor at say a 220 catch weight... id pay £whatever for that as a ppv

gracie was gassed out in the 1st... should never have got a ufc fight and wouldnt have done if it wasnt for his name... lifting his feet with his punches and not able to hold his hands up after abput 4 mins as he had totally gassed

guillard won
emerson won
hague lost

How long before UFC becomes PPV over in UK and Ireland? It appears to be getting increasingly popular and I would not be surpised if it happens. Which will be the end of my UFC interest probably

for sure put lil noguera in there ass well... i think thats quite a logical next fight for courure as he just lost to his brother... and it will give noguera the exposure to justify the title shot his talent deserves...

didnt they just sign a 3 year deal with espn (in uk)... so its still just £10 a month...

I think it will eventualy go onto channel 5 or some other free to air for fight nights, possibly tuf etc to build viewers... but yes at that point i think main events will go ppv...

than god for illegal streems is what i say...

I forgot about lil ***. I wrote down the names in haste and didn't think of all the fighters in the division. He'd beat couture. I don't know about him fighting lil ***. Lil *** would beat him and would derail the couture train. I think Dana's gonna ride the couture train now with 2 straight wins and give him a title shot. Couture sells PPV's at the end of day so I'd be very surprised if he doesn't get a title shot.

Paulo looked very impressive. He's easily in the top 5 in that division now. Swick's title shot is done with now.

Btw, agree with your silva assessment in your reply to my previous post.

.

yeah... i wanted him to win... and i do rate him as a fighter but looking back im wishing he lost...

I think now the logical thing is the winner of fitch vs alves gets a shot at the winner of gsp vs hardy... (im sure they will call out the winner in their cage interview post fight etc)...

then the winner of kos vs daley will have to fight thiago for the next title shot...

im pretty sure daley will come through both those fights... but thiago is a very dangerous opponent... and now he is training like a full time fighter rater than a part time policeman so i dont see him getting any worse...

couture would get smashed in the clinch against rua... shoguns muay thai is far too good to just be held against the cage...

true... if he does get smashed to buts in a title fight they still have a couture vs chuck ppv to sell at some point down the line as well dont they...

just hope they actually put some fighters at the top of their game as the co-main... like they did with nate and sonnen this time...

have you seen the ufc live line up btw...
jones vs vera
dos santos vs gonzaga
kongo vs buntello
runble vs howard

and guida vs gugerty on the undercard...

thats as good as some of the recent proper ufc cards!!!

So ....... the winner of Macheda - Shogun II v Couture ?

personally i hope not as i think there are much better fights out there...

if rua wins (again)... then i think that the ufc will look to have anderson silva vs rua...

because silva has said he will not fight macheda and on the same basis you have to presume he would not fight noguera so it might be the best chance they have to put silva in a lhw title fight...

though as the mrs has just pointed out ruua would probably smash randy to bits and then he could fight silva and if couture somehow got a flukey refs decision a ppv silva vs randy match up would give dana a chub so big he would be trying to ram it down throats worldwide... she has quite a way with words at times...

my picks for tonight

Randy Couture vs. Mark Coleman
Nate Marquardt vs. Chael Sonnen
Mike Swick vs Paulo Thiago

2 out of 5. Good thing you don't do this for a living. :p

The wankfest over Randy needs to stop. Yes, he's a legend, no doubt about that but Coleman was a human punching bag in that fight. He looked like he'd taken half a bottle of valium before entering the octogon. It was one of the worst displays billed as a main event i've ever seen. The Marquardt -Sonen fight was far more interesting.

It'll be interesting to see if Chales Sonnen gets his shot. He looked well up for a fight last night. Also impressed with Tiago Silva. Overall though, it was a very average card.

Did anyone hear what Tito said to make Coleman get annoyed?

Yeah.

"Paybacks are a motherfecker!" (or something to that effect)

Apparently, there was some bad blood between Tito and Coleman over some remarks made by Coleman's manager regarding Tito and his wife, ex pornstar Jenna Jameson. Tito was scheduled to fight Coleman in Nov, but Coleman pulled out due to injury. Tito being Tito couldn't resist and called Coleman a 'sissy'. This naturally upset Colemans camp and his manager said the following about Tito (via twitter):

“The only thing Coleman is afraid of when it comes to Tito is contracting swine flu from that dirty ass douchebag. We all know where he lays his head down at night. Tito wants to get personal with a legend? OK, let's get personal - we can all go to our porn collections and watch what Tito sleeps with night after night.”

 Pretty good comeback that, but it lead to Tito waiting in the tall grass for Colemans poor showing against Randy before sticking it to the hammer as the fight ended.

A bit of UFC handbags to be honest but it did make for an entertaining end to an otherwise dull card. Tito's always had a big mouth, but he'd do well to remember that people who live with pornstars in glass houses shouldn't cast the first stone. You never know when a big, black, hammer sized dildo will come crashing through the window.

yeahdana confirmed he will fight the winner of belfort silva in the post fight conference...

oh and tiago silva didnt fight on this card... he lost to evans with a pretty lack luster performance last month... do you mean paulo thiago...because yeah he looked good again
