The MMA thread

Anyone watch Dream Dynamite last night? It was a 7 and a half hour event. Was pretty fecking sick. Aoki fuoght (I'm really starting to like this guy, easily top 2 lightweight in the world). Yoshida fought Ishii. Massato fought his last fight before retiring against Sauwer. Manhoeuf fought. Overeem fought Fujita. It was pretty good. The K1 high school championships were awesome. These kids have major potential. Ray Sefo also fought a Japanses boxer.

aoki will be fighting with strikeforce this year as well...

did he have his tights on again... they seriousley need to be banned imo

weigh in starts in an hour... anybody else gonna be watching this

A little underwhelming to be honest. Hopefully the fights tomorrow are action packed. I'm not holding my breath though.

*Daley was unable to make weight and for safety reasons, the Nevada State Athletic Commission will not allow him to try to cut to 171 pounds. Hazelett agreed to a catchweight bout at 172 pounds and Daley will be fined 10% of his purse.

hummm not like him at all...

i wonder if they were trying out the iv's for the 1st time... its not something him or dan have used before but i know they were planning on trying it...

with it being on safety grounds you have to assume he must have been super dehydrated at the weigh in or an hour in a suana and a piss would have got the weight off...

if he was 172 and going on an iv he could be huge in the ring tonight...

White All Smiles After UFC 108 Delivers

dana still in talks with m1... he wants fedor AND moussassi...

plus lesnar goes back to hospital this weeks and finds out if its a few months till he can fight again... or if he needs more surgery in which case in could be a couple of years... if ever that he can come back

paul daley... BOOM...

I hope he gets kos next...
Daley was lights out last night. Very very pleased with his performance. I forgot to tell you but prior to last night (7 days ago) I made a bet with a friend that daley is gonna be champion within the next 5 years. What do you reckon, good or bad bet on my part?

If he can get his ground game up then he's gonna be a major major contender in that division.

I hope he gets either kos or fitch or the match up that I'm hoping for.....Rumble. That would be a great great fight.

Disappointed with silva a little. He was taken down with ease in the 1st and 2nd round. If only he could've done what he did in the 3rd round in the 1st and 2nd. He rocked him for sure, just didn't follow up on it to end evans' campaign.

Impressed a lot with sam stout (shout out to our canadian boy). Joe lauzon is a definite contender and I thought sam was gonna lose but he completely owned the shit out of lauzon. Very impressed with the kid.

Dos Santos stood up with Yveal which I was suprised with and definitely showed he's a contender in that division more so than ever (yveal is a huge name outside the ufc).

It's a hell of a difference beating a guy like Hazelett who has no stand up, than actually going and knocking out the likes of GSP.

well imo dan hardy is a much more rounded fighter than paul daley...

but still even i give dan maybee a 1 in 10 chance of beeting gsp...

paul... he hits so fecking hard that he goes in there knowing he can put ANYBODY in that division out... BOOM

remember a bridge counter to a left hook is going to hit most people as you have to be in range to throw the jab to start with...

yes gsp would be able to throw him around the cage... but would paul get a change to knock him out before it ended... well if he was anymore than 3/1 with a bookie id put all the money i could afford to loose on it because he is good...

yes he lost to jake shields when it went to the ground... ffs gsp would struggle aginst shields on the ground...

as for his next fight im not sure... it has been touted as alves or fitch (though those 2 have been rumoured to fight as well) and kos...

so i think if he wins that fight... and he can put any of them out then he puts himself in serious contention for a title shot...

id love dan to tag gsp then have hardy vs daley in nottingham at the ice arena... that would be a perfect fight for me... unlikley though...

rumble... i still think he will move up a division...

will he be champ within 5 years... well he is only 26... so he has got a very good chance... even without a ground game he could easily take alves down with a big shot then as i say he would have a punchers chance (a very very good punchers chance) in a title shot... if he stays with the ufc then i think he has a very good chance... wouldnt rule out him going to strikeforce though if they made him a good offer...

got to watch himself in the ring though... all that pulling a trigger on a downed opponent... thats not the adrenalin thats how he is... he likes banging people the feck out and getting in their face... better stop that on camera...

there is a rumour that the ufc only got dan to smooth the way for getting paul... dunno how true that is...

100% true if you listen to some of the guts that train paul
100% not true if you chat to dans guys
no comment if you chat to the guys who train them both

my gut feeling... if i had to get in a fight with one of them i wouldnt be pissing of paul...

paul opened up a new gym recently a well... invite only and the standard down there is high... quite a few of the rough house guys and usually some dutch guys as well...

wierdly i had 1-1 with paul about a year ago (i was just so impressed with his striking when he had been in holland for a few months and wanted tips) ... get this £20 an hour... or £150 for 10... best bargin ever?... terrible techer though... he deffinatley believes in that thing bruce lee said... to see is to be decieved, to hear is to be lied to but to feel is real... dont get me wrong you learn... but fecking hell my liver is shaking just remembering it

Great fights last night, I'm loving Daley's adrenaline/enthusiasm. Heard Aoki was pretty classless in his fight after he broke the guys arm. He flipped him off then ran around the ring flipping the crowd off. I was watching the fights, but switching off and on because it was so long and I missed his fight.

Can't wait for UFC 111.

That's what happened. What a twat.

Hopefully this is not copyright or sth?

I was 100% right on 108.

Good buddy of mine put 500 down on predictions accumulators, with the method of victory, for all 5 fights and won.

A cool 9 Grand in his pocket, mind you he spent a boatload (Probably up to 2 thousand like last UFC, where he didn't win anything), but he still made a few thousand.

"When I had his arm behind his back, I could feel it popping, I thought, 'Well, this guy's pride just won't let him tap, will it?' So without hesitation, I broke it. I heard it break, and I thought, 'Ah, there, I just broke it.' I was stopped afterward, but even if I hadn't been, continuing to break it more would have been fine by me.

charming hu...

still dont think he should be allowed to ear tights either

looking at that i cant believe t silva didnt push the pace more early on...

From what I heard from friends (I have yet to look it up) but silva fought with a fecked up back throughout the fight. It seemed his back so messed up that he was even considering forfeiting from UFC 108. If this is true, I think the other fighters pulling out pressured silva to fight and not let the opportunity of headlining a main event go.

Edit:
NVM, found it: Pre-fight injury rumors prove partially true; Thiago Silva's back ailing prior to UFC 108 | MMAjunkie.com

Btw, Ezee, thanks for the reply above. Very informative indeed. Personally, I think he'll be champ and he's becoming one of my favourite fighters out there in the UFC.

As for aoki, I got mad love for the guy so he really can't do wrong in my eyes. Hiroki was being very disrespectful in the press conference prior to dynamite but we all know how aoki is anyways (he def has a few screws loose in there). It's a fight at the end of the day, shit happens in the ground. Hiroki should've tapped. He didn't therefore ended up breaking his arm. The middle finger and the helicopter afterwards and the finger to the crowd was pretty rude and he shouldn't have done it.
The funny thing is that I watched dynamite live with two friends and we were all like, he's gonna break it if he doesn't tap here. It's happening. And boom we you hear the pop of the shoulder and the elbow broken right with it.

.

i remember telling you to watch out for him when he signed for the ufc...

anybody who has done any muay thai will like paul daley because he is a muay thai machine...

Yeah, I remember. I actually started reading up and looking up his prior fights after you brought him up.
I read there's rumours that him and kos or alves is his next fight.

Rashad Evans is fecking terrible. Easily my most disliked fighter. I've seen I think all of his fights now, and I am pretty sure that other than rounds 1 and 2 vs Silva, and one round against Tito I he has actually been losing or lost every round in the UFC until he caught the other guy. Terrible boring fighter and now that Machida made his horrible boxing look horrible he is back to his lay and pray tactics.

Unfortunately he is an intelligent fighter and if he goes for the LnP vs Rampage he should easily win that one as well.

anybody watching fight noght tonight...

as its on at 2am here ill be recording it... im lookiong forward to seeing sodallah again after his last fight though and a win for maynard must put him next in line for bj penn?

Simpson Lawlor looks good too, there's a few intriguing match-ups for this one, it's exciting times.

Did you watch WEC last night?

And a suggestion if we can get it done, should we maybe make this a "MMA" thread rather than just UFC?

Hmm Brock back that soon? No interim then?

interim is at ufc 111 mir vs carwin... (march)

if lesnar is due to resume training in spring it is typically a 12 week fight camp they have and i imagine he will need 2-3 month at least to get back into the shape to start a fight camp... so id say 5-6 months (MINIMUM) for Brock when he starts training which may be march / april... so end of the summer possibly for a comeback? maybee even next winter which would give the interim chance to defend in late summer before they fight would be my guess but of course it all depends on brocks fitness (and the interim not getting injured as well)

aldo vs faber could be one of the best fights of the year...

aldo imo is still the man who could cause bj penn the most trouble if he puts on some weight...

as for this being an mma thread... i think it has kinda become that anyway what with all the fedor stuff and wec... plus no doubt strikeforce will be talked about more and i certainly dont mind posting the odd pic of gina

Combat sport is at its best then there's more than one "Main event"

thats one of the reasons the ufc are such good promoters... they do deliver good cards... rather than the boxing model where the coverage is all about the main event they put on multiple quality foghts so even if the main event is a let down there has usually been a couple of good fights to watch
