Although I'm not a huge fan of Benzema, I think we need a player who has power and penetration and he strikes me as being the obvious candidate. £45m might be enough to do a deal and I'd also buy Valencia. Rooney to play in the hole, Berbatov on the bench.

Benzema himself would probably prefer a move to Real Madrid or Barca but if neither of them are in a position to buy this summer than he may well decide that a move to Manchester is a sensible option. If in three years' time he decides to go to Spain then we should be a better position to replace him with Macheda and Welbeck into their early 20s.

Makes sense!! Would be a perfect marketing replacement for Ronaldo too!! Being French and wearing the number 7!!

.....David Silva
Having in mind that Valencia will sell Villa, I pretty much doubt they will sell Silva in the same summer. Their president himself told the press that it's more important to keep him rather than Villa, and mind, he's quite younger. Of course he'd let him go for like 40 mil pounds, but is he worth it?

Shet no. Tidy player. Clever. Not a match winner. You don't pay through the nose for less.

Not discouting Benzema because I think he has the tools to become a top level striker, but much of the somewhat unjustified hype is reminiscent of when Djibril Cisse burst onto the scene for Auxerre. See the link below for a flavour of what this place was like then -

Benzema is technically superior to Cisse, Cisse was just about run and shoot

Lyon director Bernard Lacombe is confident Karim Benzema will still be at the Stade Gerland next season.

The young striker is one of the world's hottest properties at the moment, with Inter Milan and Real Madrid among the clubs reportedly considering tabling a 40 million euro bid. Speculation is also rife that Manchester United are ready to use some of the money earned from the impending sale of Cristiano Ronaldo to bring Benzema to Old Trafford.

However, Lacombe insists he has not received any offers for the 21-year-old, and told le Dauphine Libere: "The fax is not overheating. Even if you should never say never in football, there is a lot of noise about nothing at this moment. The idea is still to keep Karim for another season."

Benzema's agent has also confirmed the France forward is keen to remain at Lyon for another year at least before seeking a move to a bigger club.

"OL don't need liquid assets and Karim wants to stay until the 2010 World Cup," said Karim Djaziri. "On our part a departure is not on the agenda."

Benzema, who has come through the ranks at the Ligue 1 giants, scored 23 goals in all competitions this season - an average of a goal every other game.

So that looks dead in the water then.

When they he isn't moving it most likely means he is - like Ronaldo, I was sure he was going nowhere this summer. Shows how much I know.

Don't believe agents is the moral here.

Their hit rate is pretty high just now. Maicon for 20M euros +Sneijder is the latest.
Its just that its far too convenient. His agent says that he'd be happy to stay until the 2010 world cup and then Marca come up with an "agreement". Why would Lyon sign any agreement because there's interest from many teams and his stock can only rise especially if he has a good world cup. So why would Lyon agree anything?

Madrid wanted quite a bit for sneijder and where would they play Ramos if they sign Maicon? Marca are just writing anything now:lol: The Kaka deal was long coming and so was the Ronaldo one, hardly reliable or in the know journalism from them!

He also "dreams" of spain:rolleyes:
The solution is clear then, if we sign him we only do it with a certain clause. That being the clause of impending doom should he ever utter Madrid.

Clause 48920-B: If thy should wish to join Madrid, dream of Madrid or indeed sign for Madrid you hereby agree to forfeit they life and thereby the support of any police authority, humanitarian authority or the right to defend oneself and adhere to the policy that - should this clause be broken, or uttered Sir Alex Ferguson has the legal right to allow Nemanja Vidic to remove thy testicles from thy groinal region place thy testicles in cyanide and then proceed to place thy cyanide laced testicles in thy open mouth - hereby killing you in a swift yet humorous process. Signed, Karim Benzema.

My point is, I'd much rather develop someone who'd be here for the long time (like Welbeck or macheda) and sign a stop gap, than sign Benzema to go through all this crap again.

I know exactly how you feel but the question is whether SAF feels the same and trusts the youngsters enough, plus alot of fans are baying for a star signing right now. I'm settling for Ronaldinho the fat useless cnut however.

Benzema aint coming even though we would all love him to come. So Luis Fabiano might be possible!!! Luis Fabiano and Valencia could be our new signings. Senna would be nice also. Eto`o also would be good but I dont think Fergie will pay what he wants!! And Tevez staying also would be great!!

Is he even that good?

I have only watched him about 4 times though.
Yes, he's definitely got the ability to be one of the best, my tip if you look on youtube is to ignore goals and try and find footage of him on the ball - gives a much better impression of how good somebody is I think - watching someone score goals is a bit dodgy on youtube.

In an interview with THE LEAGUE champions league magazine Benzema was asked "what about the english premier league? Manchester United are said to have kept an eye on you for a long time now" his response was " I love English football too and when I watch it, its just for the red devils. Definitely they are my favourite team. The funny thing is I play in France, but I dont really watch the Ligue 1 games. Im mainly interested in watching Spanish, English and Italian football. "

Nah, I don't even think watching player on youtube in any way gives you a good impression of what they're like at all.
