Ruud van Nistelrooy has joined United's coaching staff

Wasn’t he pretty successful as a PSV manager?
Would be quite a step down for him, although I would obviously love to him back in any sort of role at the club.

Guessing there'll be an outcry because he's Dutch and he's been in the Eredivisie.

Would be great if it happens, but he'll surely be after a managerial position?

I have a hot take.

Ruud was a better forward than Haaland.

Haaland is faster, stronger, more physical, but has serious deficiencies in his technical ability, build up play, and even with all his physical abilities he still has problems playing with his back to goal.

Ruud was known for his goals but was an excellent technician too, his dribbling was fantastic, his passing up to scratch and could also hold up the ball incredibly well.

Did he do well at PSV? Assuming it's Ineos picking him that looks to me as like a bit of a fall back option too in case they're not happy with ETH and gives them a quick interim option that would go down well with the fans and demand the respect of the players.

Would love this - even if just for nostalgia.

Suppose he is meant to be a decent coach as well!

Only if ten Hag wants him. Otherwise recipe for disaster.

Wouldn't be unhappy with this!

Surely he would prefer to be top man at a club though?

It’ll end in tears when they eventually sack Ten Hag and Ruud takes over

…..though seriously, surely Ruud would want a managerial position.

He did yeah.

Ruud has shown to be a promising coach. He was working as an assistant for many years, with Guus Hiddink and Ronald Koeman. He also coached youth teams at PSV and became head coach there.

All that to say he has a background with lots of training and experience. MU legend on top of that, he could be an excellent addition.

Thats not a hot take for me. Ruud was from a different planet just like Haaland was. Both superb in different ways.

I thought he was off to Burnley.

Let's hope he doesn't tell our snowflake players to cry to their dad.

He did yeah.
I would think he would be able to get a good job elsewhere in that case, which makes me wonder if he may be thinking about this as a potential route to landing the United job.

Haaland uses his freak physical characteristics to score his goals but I've still not seen a finisher as clinical as Ruud was.

He'd be a great addition as long as he's happy to be an assistant here.

Id be surprised if he were to take a job as a assistant after being a relatively successful head coach.

Good news for us. Bit of a step down for him though considering he was the manager of psv? Unless MVDG is leaving and we don’t know about it.

Would be great for us, but we already have two assistant managers, right? What would be the draw for him? Might stay here for a few months until he gets a tasty managerial offer, so in that sense, good for both parties.

Ruud coaching Rasmus ? I'm in!

Also, I won't be surprised if Ineos are bringing him in to replace ETH in case he won't make it here

Didn't see that one coming.

I wonder what sort of role we want for him.

Doubt he'll accept it, though, if he's serious about his own managerial career.

Probably to replace Benny McCarthy

There was a report from the Athletic a couple of weeks back suggesting Van Der Gaag could be replaced.

I’d love him here. He’d get our ST into shape. I’d be very surprised if he takes our job though when he’s being offered manager jobs.

Ruud was, the second best finisher I've ever seen. The best was another Dutch man ie Van Basten.

The rest (Inzaghi, Vieri, Haaland, Batistuta, Shearer etc) were very close but still inferior to the man.

I’d imagine he’d replace Mccarthy as an attacking coach. Be surprised if he takes that though considering he could become manager at other clubs. On the other hand though he could see it as a potential chance at becoming our manager one day.

He was insane. I’d also have RVP up there as one of the best finishers and he’s another I’d have on our coaching team

There were rumours INEOS want their own appointment on the coaching staff, so to speak. I wouldn't say no to him, but I don't see why he would say yes? He could just be a manager instead, unless he wants a more relaxed role.

No outcry about him being Dutch and from Eredivisie? Caf disappoints.

Seriously though, why would he want to come here to work under someone else when he already has a job as a head coach and is being linked with other jobs as a head coach. I don't see this happening.

Edit : I thought he was still manager of PSV. Looks like he's not.
