Disappointing. I felt sure this news would have all sorts of jokes and puns about Marcus never moving so fast etc…. But it’s just a bunch of bitching and whining.
Poor old @rimaldo is this forums Bruno, taking on the work himself and carrying the rest of us. He’s the only one who attempted humour. :(
Good post. This thread’s Dalot.

The guy does himself no favours but caught going over the speed limit? I suppose it depends on how much. I don't know how many drivers on here can honestly say they've never exceeded the speed limit

He's had a much better season than Rashford.
Sure but that doesn't make him negligible. Before this season the highest he has scored & assisted in a single season is 6.

For aure take Gordon because he is in top form, but boy does southgate need one of Grealish or Rashford for some experience on the left.

Southgate is shooting his own left foot.

Even comparing Rashford’s best season in 22/23 when everyone raved about his output….

Rashford 22/23 PL has 22 G/A
Gorton 23/24 PL has 27 G/A

Err, no he doesn’t. He has 23 GA in all competitions compared to Rashford’s 40 last season.

Taking a player who phoned it in all season would have set dreadful example. At some point maybe the lack of consequence there was for Rashford throughout the season, contributed to him thinking he didn't need to raise the bar. Game after game, month after month - he retained his place up until the very arse-end of the campaign. Totally undeserved.

Had he been rewarded by getting on the plane to Germany I think it would have been the worst thing for him, England and United.

These are obviously wrong. I'm not a massive fan of Gordon. One of those players who aren't the most talented, but gives it a good go. That's how he's become a reasonable player.

Rashford scored 17 league goals. 30 in all competitions.

Gordon scored 11 league goals. 12 in all competitions.

Bit of a difference.
Intention was to compare the same group of teams played in the competition and assists are just as important for a winger.

Whether Rashford was ‘miles’ better is for another discussion, however Gorton certainly deserves to get picked ahead of him for England which is the original point.
In terms of form over the past season, then no question. If ability and what they have proven in the past carries weight, then it's obviously Rashford.

Stand corrected.

Rashford 22 PL G/A vs Gorton 21 G/A

Point still stands nevertheless.
Presumably you also accept that 40GA in 4,300 minutes is a lot better than 23GA in 3,867 minutes?

It’s perfectly fine to think Gordon has been better than Rashford this season. Quite why you felt the need to add 6 GA to Gordon’s figures and then remove Gordon’s stats in the cups (2 GA in 1,000 minutes which is pretty crap) and try and argue his season was anywhere near Rashford’s 22/23 is another question.

Personally, I’ve watched quite a bit of both players this season. I’d say that, even on this season, Rashford has been the player I’d want in a big match. Gordon is a solid premier league player doing a decent job in an outstandingly well coached attacking team. Stick him in the dysfunctional mess we have been this season and I doubt he’d have matched Rashford’s stats (despite the fact I think Rashford deserves criticism for his own performances at times this season).

Wonder how he'll feel at the news of EtH staying? Unless i'm mistaken there was some talk of him being annoyed at Sancho's treatment and obviously he himself had some disciplinary issues over the season but the fact is EtH did stand by him, and i think he desperately wanted to keep playing Rashford in the hope of him rediscovering some form.

I guess if he doesn't move on then it's a clean slate next season. Both manager and player are on extremely thin ice but hopefully the two can work well again.

Rashford was supposedly one of the players who tried to persuade Sancho to apologise, so I doubt he will be that bothered by that situation.

I think Rashford’s main issues last season seemed to be a lack of understanding of the role ETH wanted him to play. Hopefully if ETH does move back to a formation with a midfield and if Hojlund can continue to improve his link up play, we will see a more confident Rashford in 24/25.

I think it’s more that he wants to be the main attacking outlet, so when we played Wout and Antony they graft so much off the ball (without doing much in terms of scoring) that it allowed him to thrive.
This season we’ve had the move to a more normal CF who still works hard but is higher and more of a goal scorer plus don’t underestimate the effect of Shaw being injured all season on our LW. I think that’s where he’s struggled because it’s a much more all round game with much more off the ball work and a lot less enjoyable.

I think he'll be absolutely fine with it tbh. I've not seen anything to suggest that Rashford has an issue with ETH or vice versa.

Marcus had a terrible season because he was not good enough. I agree that an overall team improvement will help him improve, but he himself has a lot to work on. Especially mentally. He seems not interested and not focused. Not sure why, but I hope he (with the manager’s help) work on that. In addition, his dribbling was below average, his crossing (when he rarely decides to look up and cross) was bad. He was a pedestrian most of the time, no passion, no tracking back.

he has a lot to work on if he is to be considered our starting LW player next year. I would like him sold (probably good for him as well), but if he stays, there’s a lot to do

I just remembered that he choose to skip couple of months of new season for us because he wanted to go to EUROs with England few years ago, only for Southgate to give him total of around 60-80 minutes in entire tournament with few sub appearances. And now he isn't even called up for England.

He's made some terrible career choices, I remember arguing with someone that that was terrible decision that club shouldn't have allowed him to do, and some people argued that he should do what he feels is best for him, when it's obvious he needs a mentor to guide him.

Then decided to go on holiday for a month before eventually choosing to have his elective shoulder operation three days before the season starting.

His priority isn't football. He's made that crystal clear over and over with decisions on and off the pitch - but some people still choose to believe 'his' words instead of his actions.

That was beyond stupid. The club absolutely should have prevented that. He should have had the operation the day after the Europa final (if not before) with a view to being fit enough to do some pre-season.

He seems to be prepared to play through injuries for club or country (possibly he just doesn’t want to let others down) and needs someone to make the correct calls to prolong his career.

Watching the euros, seeing the passion of the likes of Sabitzer and Weghorst etc. Knowing how many thousands of pounds I've paid in years travelling to watch United and being glad that he's not even on the plane. Can we now change the smiling gloating face icon on the thread please. I don't need to go on more...do I?

He's right!

I watched Williams and Yamal provide width and pace in behind for the Spanish team, which is something they seemed to have lacked in previous tournaments. Fast forward a few years, and England are now guilty of having a lot of players who want to drop short for the ball, thus struggling to break teams down.

Rashford had a below par season, but he's someone who can stretch teams, and for that reason alone, I would have taken him.

I actually don't agree at all. Providing width is not about hugging the line. It's about being able to beat your man and show quality once you're past him, whether that's a shot on target or an assist. Nico Wiliams had Di Lorenzo on toast all night. Yamal was doing Zidane 360 spins, and he was playing against second best left back in Italy after Theo Hernandez.

When do you actually remember a game where Rashford has done that? I mean, I understand why his agent is brushing Rashford's ego, but he has been in atrocious form all season. He can't dribble past his man, he overruns his dribblings into goal kicks, and he can't seem to get a connection on the field with anyone similar to what he did with Martial before. I mean, he is in a really, really bad form.

Italy defended deep for most of the time, so not even his pace would've come into play. To a degree, I'm actually happy he is not there. Hopefully, and I'm only clutching for straws here, he will use this summer to rest, and prove a point next season.

In regards to the Denmark game, Southgate must stop this Trent experiment, otherwise, England will get battered by a better team.

While England are stinking the place out at the Euros, I'm actually glad no United players are in the team. No one can blame them.

Rashford is better off out of it.

Weirdly I think Southgate is helping Rashford.

He's better away from the scrutiny of it. And his stock is going to rise as the man "who should have gone"

He has absolutely zero excuses next season. He's got a full summer to relax mentally and physically. He should be coming in to next season fresh and fit. If he doesn't perform in the early weeks then there is no hope.

Well, providing width is about hugging the touch, as the wider you are, the more width the team have. However, I didn't just mention width, I mentioned Rashford's ability to stretch teams i.e. his running in behind.

I agree he's had a poor season, and I certainly don't see getting at his man as much as he used to do, but there's more than one way to get in behind a defence, and Rashford's pace and running power is one of those. It's for that reason he still remains a big threat on the counter, and why he would compliment someone like Kane, who likes to drop and link play.

Yep, we've got some players who have decent mobility like Saka, Foden and Bellingham, but no-one has Rashford's raw pace. Which with Kane already drawing scrutiny for being way too deep and no pace threat we could have done with massively. Even just off the bench.

Been absolutely shit all season, barely looking interested.

....But could've been glorious for England due to his raw pace.

Yeah, don't really see it.

Yep me neither, posters in here making up excuses for Rashford is beyond ridiculous. Southgate has done, and continues to do, questionable stuff, but the one thing he got right was not bringing Rashford.

Players who don't perform well throughout a season should not still get the privilege of being picked for their country for a major tournament.

I'd get gambling on him if there were a shitload of injuries and England were lacking attacking players, but it'd be fairly harsh to leave any of the current players out of the squad in order to shoe in Rashfords after his performances this season.
