Transfer Tweets - Manchester United - 2024/25

Not sure how I feel about de Ligt. For all his promise, to be 24 and have been moved on from Juventus and now possibly Bayern is a bit concerning. These are clubs that don't typically sell their best performers.

This is exactly the sort of transfer we’d usually make.

Big fee, big wages on a player who hasn’t looked properly up to it for years.

Hope we avoid.

Great, we need more newbies slagging off the manager, there's not quite enough of that on the forum.

Whether a “newbie” or not I would say the same thing. I don’t rate this manager and don’t want this manager. Sorry if that upsets you or others.

In theory de Ligt would be the perfect partner for Martinez. Tall, good in the air, right footed, good pace (shut up) and good on the ball. A leader. Captain as a teenager for Ajax. Huge question marks about the injuries though.

De Ligt is slow, injury prone and hasn't kicked on since his Ajax days, avoid at all costs as it's only his name and early promise that's carrying his perceived value right now.

Meh. He's 6 years younger, but not that big of an upgrade on Maguire IMO. Injuries could be an issue, and ideally would need a pacey player as our number 1 CB signing as well.

Is he a good organizer and ball progressor?

My brain is saying no, but I've always felt like De Ligt's next club will either be United or Barcelona, considering his career trajectory so far.

Mental he's only 24. He would be an upgrade on Maguire, but price I think will be prohibitive. They're going to expect about £50m minimum and that's at the absolute bottom.

A cheeky loan deal, with an option for 25m sounds about right.

Grand, you can rate or not rate who you like, but let's not just insult players or managers we don't rate. It's not great for discussion at all. There are vast expanses of the internet already filled with it.

So we are definitely signing him..

Ineos haven't made their first signing yet so I'm still naively hopeful despite the facts suggesting they have stalled over the Sporting Director, haven't agreed any outgoing, seemed confusing by the varied style of manager they interviewed but here's hoping they can do something different in the market!

If he cannot stay fit in Germany the Premier League is hardly going to be easier on him, so many injuries before 24, he could potentially outgrow them, conversely he could be another Saha, Hargreaves and just be a crock, unless a very favourable loan term then I would want to stay clear, we would be better signing an average CB from the prem/championship who can stay fit for the season

Love these two assessments, 2 minutes apart.

Funny old game

Not too dissimilar...

We both admit he is injury prone, both referenced he was good at Ajax, @Floyd is in denial about his pace but he is good in the air, tall and good distribution.. He has regressed since Ajax though unfortunately partly due to injuries.
I’m not having a dig, we all see the game differently

INEOS should propose the idea just to see what Bayern would say, can talk about being wary of injuries as the reason for that proposal

I don’t think they have a plan. Just sign shedload of players and then ask the manager to work it out.
Yeah, they're basically taking the MLB approach of signing as many prospects in as possible in the hopes of having them succeed at Chelsea or be moved on for money/other players.

It does seem like overkill...Olise has been primarily a RW. Palmer was fantastic there last season. They also still have Madueke. It would be on odd move if he went there.

As a reminder, United's priority is to sign a new centre back and striker. Therefore, Olise wouldn't be one of the club's priorities. We'll probably prioritise this when we sell both Sancho and Greenwood (as @SAF is the GOAT mentioned earlier).

We will regret this one for some time to come and pay 100m+ for a similar player a year down the line. Take advantage of the damn release clause! It's like getting Saka for 60M.

Ligament injuries 3 times and missed 60+ games in last 4 years, adjusting to premiere league pace could cause further injuries too, so better we avoid this transfer and focus on other targets!

We had enough problems with injuries in defence and dont need another!
