We need to stop renewing all contracts for the foreseeable. No player in this squad that has a contract expiring in 2023,2024 or 2025 deserves a renewal. We should just let De Gea leave in the summer. Rashford is the only hard decision to be made. His contract is up in 2024.

Even at half his current wages he'd be a top 3 paid keeper in the league.

Which shows how absolutely mental Is the contract we gave him. Considering he's been awful for 5 years yet that contract is 4 years old.
Jesus... A third of his current wage then.

Horrendous decisions made in the past.

I think Henderson is absolutely worh the gamble at this stage and I don't overly rate him.
This is what I’ve been saying since last season, is Henderson the long term option ? Probably not BUT he’s a better option than De Gea whilst having a massive point to prove even if it’s to stick two fingers up at the club and say “I told you so” for sticking with De Gea when it was obvious he was on a massive yearly decline from 2018.

If the club are intent on giving De Gea a new contract then anything above 50% of what he’s on is madness and at best £100K a week on a years contract would be my offer, let him warm the bench and let Henderson play but personally I’d bin De Gea off (great servant or not) in the summer as he’s a fecking liability and will create panic in our defence.

Surely great service has to end at some point? 12 years, now has the keeper appearance record, actually won a bunch of stuff. What else do we want? Given the level of performance we're getting now, I would have thought a goodbye should be an easy decision?

Early reports are £100m, that's regardless of a sale. What's a new keeper cost? £40m? £50m max? How long is his contract going to be? 5 years? That's £10m a year. So we do have the money to buy a new keeper and other positions.
Did you even read my original post?

He’s not going to throw him under the bus with 5 games left.

However end of the season he’s gone…

Not for this club. We must continue to make bad decisions. Why? I have no idea. It's been a trend for a decade. Even Fergie was guilty of it. Keeping Giggs long past his best. Not addressing the horrid midfield we had. Bringing Scholes back. It's like a curse was put on the club sometime around 2010 and all who step foot inside Old Trafford turn into fools who can't see the obvious

Despite the fact that we’ve been negotiating most of the season and ten Hag has praised him a few times? I really hope you’re correct but I think he stays.

DDG has been a great servant for the club but I feel we need to move on in order to progress as a club. He is still a good keeper on his day, but makes too many mistakes and his kicking is generally atrocious.

He will 100% get a new contact and be our number 1 next year though IMO.

Actually feel sorry for him if the club intend to play him next season. He will continue to cost us games and fans will turn on him.

ETH has consistently and in my view correctly praised DeGea, in order to prevent his confidence from completely crumbling. Unfortunately it looks like we’re going to have to wear him for another season due to limited funds, a proper striker is our priority right now.

Yeah I’m hoping. The fact he’s going to cost us £200k a week should be enough to make our mind up. But poor management will probably see him stay.

Manchester Utd never lose, just run out of time

The hope is that the 'negotiating' is just the club showing enough interest in renewing that De Gea's confidence doesn't drop too far and feel he's got nothing to play for as he won't be here next season. I guess it could go the other way and him knowing he won't be here might push him to improve to showcase his talents to other clubs, but honestly he's been so mentally fragile over the last few years it'd probably go the first way.

You think the club is fake negotiating?

But we always sign a keeper in the summer window. We'll sign a new keeping, he just won't replace DDG.

Oh dear. we are fecked
This is how I know we will never achieve anything in the near to mid future. We are ran by idiots.
'We want him to stay and ultimately cost me my job'
Do any of you expect ETH to say “we’re going to sell him because he’s sh!t”?

There’s really nothing else he can publically say, whether he wants to sell him or not. Look at what he used to state in interviews about Ronaldo and Maguire.

No one will put a gun to his head to force him to stay, so why would you feel sorry for him if he is selected to play and continue to cost us games next season?

Don't take that at face value.

I've thought for a while now that Utd are low balling De Gea massively in the knowledge he won't take up their offer because it's so low.

I think the briefings that we want him to stay are playing the media because they know telling the truth wouldn't help the end of our season (Media would constantly go on about now we have a GK that we don't want and won't be here next season - which could create a distraction)

Ten Hag is too smart. He knows full well that the team can't get to where he wants it to be with DDG in goal.

It's more what I expect him to do privately. Which is the same thing he's doing with Maguire i.e. freezing him out and sorting a replacement.

Given that we dont seem to be doing that we can only take his comments at face value.

There's no way we give De Gea a 200k+/week new deal and he doesnt go into the season as first choice or even with any competition.

There's plenty of players available for £50m or under. We don't have to keep spending £90m on every player we buy.
Say that to the club not to him. He’s not in charge of recruitment. By the looks of it, this summer, a huge fee will be spent on a striker like Kane. Then a midfielder. Then maybe a CB if we manage to offload Maguire. It doesn’t look like the club will be spending money on a first choice keeper.
