Frenkie was originally conceived as a CDM for us. I completely agree he’s better used as a progressive midfielder, but we have Eriksen and, at the risk of mentioning his name, Fred. De Jong is a massive upgrade on both without any question, but before we brought in Casemiro the vision was for de Jong to slot right in at CDM.
De jong occupies a rather special position in the midfield and I think we always planned to utilise him the same way but now if we do get he's gonna pair up with Casemiro instead of Fred or mctom, so I say nothing major changed by getting casemiro.

Its this kind of bs that keeps hooking me back in and is driving me round the bend!
We know the conditions Barca need to meet to be able to sign and register Bernardo, so it just gives a window of hope. Are we really taking it to the deadline? Does Erik still insist? Could the Frenkie money still be ringfenced? Are the Glazers spending because they know they have a route out And want to maximise profit? Do we get Memphis as a bonus? Is he having a secret private medical? Would he really string ETH along and then move to Chelsea? I want ANSWERS goddamnit!

Surely we haven't got the money for De Jong this window now, you would think that any agreement would be next summer unless we shift Garner, Tuanzebe/Jones, Ronaldo, Amad and maybe Garnacho also.

If we sign De Jong, you can delete my account...............................
Do you think the moment all the muppets have been waiting for to blow their collective load, in that moment of ultimate euphoria would anyone think “ hold on to your cocks lads for a minute, we have to delete Sewey89 account first “ ? You take yourself too seriously. :wenger:

Unless we sell a truckload of players soon, there is no chance of this happening in this window.

This will be reignited come next summer when Frenkie is phased out of the squad by Xavi and after Laporta crosses the line and impregnates his fiancee/future wife...sorry can't help myself.

Surely Gerard Romero is now certified Tier 6.
Well he's certainly been incredibly annoying all summer. But to give him his dues - he broke this story originally, and there was something to it despite everyone's scepticism at the time.

He is a complete tosspot. Really poor performance from him this year IMO. I'd nearly say ban him altogether. /r/barca think the sun and moon shine out of his arse though.

I've enjoyed all the twists and turns of this thread and am a little sad that this will end soon, one way or the other.

I think people don't understand what Romero does, he's more of a mouthpiece than a journalist, if he says something it means that's what lapoerta wants to get out there, he's a pretty merchant.

Still it would be great for us to get de jong while one of our direct competitors gets weakened in the process.

Come on now guys... He's done his bit and flown to London to get the page count up when things were getting really quiet.

We'll all be ashamed when the transfer window closes and he releases a statement saying he was gonna join United but the CAF couldn't be arsed to get to 2000 pages.:nono:

Exactly, he is a clown, but he is also a mouthpiece and that is why is so spot on with a couple of things of Barcelona like the first who broke FDJ, Kounde deal etc. I am just wondering what would be the gain to still insist on the Bernardo Silva if not happening after the comments of Pep and City management. Just transfer hype for nothing?

I think the window for Spanish teams closes tomorrow right?

I’m still wondering where this wedding bit came from. This is turning into a Spanish soap opera.

Partly true, but it’s not happening ever. He will get old at Barcelona and then head over to Serie A in the latter stages of his career where his old legs can handle to pedestrian pace.

If we did bring in de Jong he’s instantly, with all due respect to Fred, our best player and we’d build around him. If all it took to get the deal done us 100m plus 400k/week it would be a no brainer.

What I’m suggesting is that we literally, in the literal sense of the word, had no CDM before Casemiro and that was clearly the role he was going to serve. Casemiro and de Jong different players — Casemiro sheds the ball as quickly as possible whereas de Jong prefers to advance the ball before making the pass — but they’re similar players otherwise. Had neither come in we would all be rightly moaning about the lack of a CDM. With either, we have a CDM. With both, either could play CDM but it is absolutely true that de Jong could also play an 8 for us. With the obvious drop off in quality acknowledged, Eriksen and Fred can also play the 8.

A loan seems like it would be a great solution for both clubs. Takes his wages off the book for Barcelona and we can delay the transfer fee until next year.

Directly under the sun... NOW!
We've improved across the pitch and he'd be daft if he didn't see we're on the up. Career-wise, this should be a no-brainer for him. Unfortunately it seems that he's not the one doing the thinking stuff.

Really? He would need to give up on winning serious trophies for the foreseeable future and knowing our track record of the past decade, it would much more likely end up in a career suicide than anything else.
