Too many reports saying he doesn't want to leave, but nothing recently from the man himself. Just recycled reports for the main part. Frenkie could put an end to this in moments by speaking to ten Hag and saying he's hopefuly of a resolution at Barca and wants to stay so he won't be joining this season. He could also do an interview putting an end to all this crap too, but again, he's not. I think that tells you theres more to this than the media wants you to know.

Don't be a quitter just yet. Hang on and keep on muppeting.

Feck it, I'm back in and unzipped. Thanks for the muppet counselling bro!

Btw, i can kind of assumed this to be true given that's all you muppets been talking about, but do we have actual reports that this famous "17M owed" are what's holding up the deal? Because right now all reports i've seen mentioning it seemed more like media speculations and the actual reports were De Jong prefers to stay at Barcelona(AKA whatever United are offering him isn't enough as of yet)

Don't believe the Barcelona propaganda hook, line, and sinker.

It's inconceivable to me that Lewandowski has taken a paycut to join an inferior team it just doesn't add up.

He had a pay cut but a longer contract and I’m sure the barca wages are quoted net so you might be right however this is a FDJ thread and with Chelsea’s odds coming into to 9/4 and united 6/4, don’t underestimate those CNUTs running Barcelona playing the United Hierarchy, if he goes to Chelsea, Murtourgh should resign instantly and we as fans need to support the club but ETH needs to establish players who actually want to come here, if this happens, one of our most embarrassing transfer sagas in recent memory.

He (& his wife) is desperate to stay, he won’t get the money owed if he leaves, he will probably still get plenty of game time and probably believes he can force himself to be a one of the first names on the team. You can see the reasons for him not wanting to leave. However, they are pushing him out, and if he stays (as is his contractual right) and he/they have a poor season he will be the first one to be crucified.

WTH guys! Stay put don't give in. Nothing conclusive yet to call the day. Only indication would be either Barca or United call off the agreed deal. That day we shall close this thread and move on. But not until.

He and his wife are desperate to stay? Are you referring to the Sport report from this morning?
The same Sport that has an anti United agenda and will do everything to paint the club as twats and give their opinions daily and pass them off as facts.

Theres been NOTHING from de Jong recently that even says he wants to stay, it's all old reports, or according to team mates, but nothing from him. Theres ABSOLUTELY NOTHING saying he doesn't want to come to United or Manchester in general, so i wish people would stop believing these bloody Sport reports!

This story has gained a lot of interest, so I thought I'd set the
record straight with my current
understanding of what is a slightly complex situation.

Chelsea have been interested in Frenkie de Jong for weeks, but they know that Man United have an agreement with Barcelona, and also that Frenkie as of today has
no plans to leave Spain.

So far, De Jong remains on the
same idea - so Chelsea will not
submit offers until they know that Frenkie has different ideas.

In any case, the club's priority now is to continue to strengthen in defence, at least one new centre- back, with Presnel Kimpembe and Jules Kounde on the agenda.

As well as that, N'Golo Kante will soon have talks with the club board to discuss his contract. He has been waiting since May 2021, after winning the Champions League, to receive a proposal for an extension.

I guess the only logical explanation to the way Barca are acting right now is if they're paying Frenkie's "deferred" salary now, they will have to pay for all other targets they're planning to move on this window. If that's the logic they're operating with, then we're looking at the last day transfer for this deal. So 1300+ pages incoming.

Can see us waiting till the end of the window to pay the £17m he is holding out for . Just a game of chicken

So why don’t Utd just come out and say - we’ve agreed a few with Barcelona but they have an outstanding issue with the player that needs resolution?

Would at least put it into perspective? Don’t understand why we don’t say anything? If this was RM they would be pumping out the narrative? What about his agent? Why is he staying quiet?

If Barca really wanted to get rid then surely they would have kept off the tour and from playing? Surely they are just getting him to renegotiate his salary and compromise on his deferred monies? It doesn’t look like he is being forced out does it?

I mean there’s been a new tweet about him not wanting to leave or join us basically every day. Are they all quoting Sport? I’m genuinely asking, I am quite all in in the saga, but I haven’t been checking the source of the tweets.

Things like this are done through the media

Even if they know Frenkie has different ideas (which they'd know that he'd be open to leaving if the situation arises, so this is an excuse for the reports yesterday to get out of a blatent lie) they've no space for him and he'd likely go to United in my opinion where they'd build a team around him and he'd be the absolute star player.

This just seems to me like it's a big big backtrack because they know that they fecked up in putting that report out and it's saving face, or those that reported it too using them as the source now feel a bit stupid and are backtracking. It's just a mess and with people falling for it all the time... well, it's only going to get messier

Wha about Orol Domenech? Believe him? He has said the same.

Not a dig at you mate, just curious. This deal is seriously 50-50. I cant call it. Neither scenario would surprise me, stay or go

No, but they're all referring to old interview etc where he's said he's happy at Barca and would like to stay. He also said he can't talk about United in old interviews and said it's flattering when big clubs are interested in you. No one reports that, they just report that he doesn't want to leave.

Then you have the "sources close to the player" "teammates have said". There is never anything from his agent or from himself that he's said lately as in the last few weeks that i'm aware of, saying he wants to stay and doesn't want to go to United. It's always third party reports or "sources"

But has anything come from de Jong himself in the last few weeks?
Has anything come from his agent that can be quoted? It's always "he doesn't want to leave" but theres never any recent quotes or anything. I think the assumption is based on his old quotes and interviews and because he's pretty much gone silent, people are assuming his stance is the same. I don't know though, and it's all opinion on my side

Weird last couple of pages of this thread has a few saying dont think we sign him now as too many reports of him not wanting to come......erm hasnt that been the case since we were linked with him pretty much?

I still think he moves....ant am not in the muppet category here, someone else swoops in for him like CHelsea, he isnt coming here, has never wanted too and said when we were linked, great player but even for the fee which is a good one, large proportion of our budget and he doesnt seem keen on comign here anyway. Think we will look at this player as wasted time in what should have been a huge window within the next week or two

But has anything come from de Jong himself in the last few weeks?

Mate, you know we're on the same side, but we shouldn't close our eyes to the possibility that there's something in the vast amount of reports that he doesn't want to come, and not just for financial reasons.

Not saying it's the case, but don't think we can rule it out at this point

Internally, unless United is 100% sure he'll be joining (even if it's on the last day), I hope alternatives are being pursued. It'd be amateur hour if no one is bought on the basis that the club was waiting for this transfer.

Also, saying the club is fine as is and can start the season based on a few wins in meaningless pre-season games (as someone said above) is peak delusion and recency bias.

Tbh, even the Barca fans would tell you dont believe Sport.

The biggest surprise so far today is that @Berbaclass didn't post on page 894, and is yet to post on 895.
You alright, mate?

No we shouldn't as hes said in the past he doesn't want to leave. He's never said he doesn't want to come, just that he doesn't want to leave Barca.
But as i'm saying theres been nothing recently, de Jong could put a stop to this really quickly, but he's done nothing to stop the rumours, neither has his agent, unless you believe Sport, which, lets be honest, they're useless

Can Barca register all their players yet?

We are just waiting it out until they know they have to pay him to get rid. United are obviously aware of another shoe to drop - you’d fecking hope at least.

I think the major issue is that you have basically asked for an advance on future earnings of TV rights and possibly the studios and the merchandise. Then instead of being mature about it, it's like a kid who just won the lottery and instead of investing wisely, you have blown it on short-term solutions like Lewandowski who has zero resale value.
If it was a tech start-up, the investors would be pissed off. But since it isn't and it's fan-owned these 'value 'buys' are purely to give the fans a short-term lift. It's populism at its best.

But basically, you are doubling down on things. Fixing a shitting problem by creating different problems.

As to covid and its impact; how come it's only Barca out of the major clubs that have to get an advance on their future earnings? Bayern, Liverpool, and as shitty run a club United is, we did either -- though the LBO that the Glazers employed to buy the club was a form of that. But nevertheless, we didn't sell any of our tv rights to stay alive.

Its wreckless what Laporta is doing. It's like from near terminal, the club instead decided to party like it 1999. Its like people who have had head trauma -- the euphoric and almost giddy feelings they feel before the blunt force trauma does it death knell on the patient.

The Covid-19 was a reference to the salary cap. The English clubs did not have to adjust their allowed salaries depending on their short term income which Barcelona had to do. There is no argument over the fact that Barcelona by far has mismanaged their finances the most.

I'm an economist and I cannot see that your prophecy about Barcas future death is especially well grounded. You are basically saying that LaPorta doesn't know what he is doing and that it is easy for you to tell. Well let's see how it turns out the next decade to come. There are no such thing as zero risk at elite football level but It feels a lot better spending 120m on Raphinha and Lewandowski than 400m on Coutinho, Dembélé and Griezmann.

Lewandowski can have three years in him on absolute top level and Barca must be in the competition of titles every year in order to make money. Just reaching the quarterfinals in CL two years in a row is worth as much as the buy of Lewandowski and then his wage is 200K less a week than a 37-year old Ronaldo.

Lewandowski was a perfect buy and Barca already have 9 players (7 from La Masia) under 22 years of age that could be starting players

Araujo 23 (50m market value)
Erik Garcia 21 (20 m market value)
Serginho Dest 21 (20 m market value)
Pedri 19 (80 m market value)
Gavi 17 (60 m market value)
Nico 22 (20 m market value)
Ansu Fati 19 (60 m market value)
Ferran Torres 22 (45 m market value)
Riqui Puiq 22

Add to that a handful of top class players around 25 years of age with market values hoovering round 30m-60m.
If De Jong can stay it is even better.

So if they don't pay him what they agreed with him in a contract then they aren't breaking it?
They are paying/have paid him as per the contract to this point. The whole argument is that his ’deferred’ wages actually make up his increase in the coming season and the one after so the total amount is the same over the full term of the contract - which is why Barca want him gone. They don’t actually legally owe him anything, but it’s shitty of them to not act in a morally correct way and reimburse him for his efforts to help the club.

Nope.

The other bolded parts is the reason we've been shit.

Not because we were backing the manager, it's because they were the wrong managers to back.

Also, the problem hasn't only been backing the managers, it's the complete changes in style from Manager to manager.

if we had hired a progressive possession based manager after Van Gaal we wouldn't of been anywhere near as bad. But because we went for Mourinho who has a completely different approach, we ended up with a squad of misfits.

If/When Ten Hag leaves we have to hire a manager that has at least a similar approach.

Playing CB in a friendly is nothing issue. It's just giving minutes to players. Not that big of an issue
He’s played CB a few times before for Barca as a stop gap solution. It’s not the first time. Barca had no other CB’s in the squad this game.

Can Barca register all their players yet?

We are just waiting it out until they know they have to pay him to get rid. United are obviously aware of another shoe to drop - you’d fecking hope at least.

Barca can register all players if necessary, even if it means to activate another lever or extend some contracts for a lower anual salary. We saw the same thing in winter. Barca pressured through the press that they can't register Auba, Torres and Traore if Dembele doesn't leave or extend and what happend? Dembele did neither and still everyone got registered.
Barca doesn't sign players they can't register, but a bit of pressure here and there through the press is the way to go with Laporta's board.

Definitely the strangest transfer saga ever, this.

Deal agreed with club who want to sell him, but he and his entourage have remained completely silence, and are just carrying on as if nothing is happening. It's amazing.

Weirdly enough, that's exactly what I would do if my employer was trying to shaft me.

120m euros for a Leeds United winger and a 34 year old.
The new Barca ”value for money”.
Oh, and you got Chelsea’s reserve CB on a free whilst Madrid got the first team one.

And you’ve managed all of this by selling future revenue of 2bn + for about 500 mil.

I must be missing the value.

Wait, what?
