Darwin Núñez / signs for Liverpool

I don't want him and have had reservations since the early links

I think we need a wide forward more than a striker Rashford (out of form for 2 years) Elanga and Sancho is nowhere near the quality needed meanwhile either Ronaldo or Nunes will be on the bench.

Eh? He isn’t going to start for us. This is the big issue we have when signing any striker this summer. They have a 37 year old named Ronaldo in front of them who wants to play every game. Who does he have ahead of him in the striking role at Liverpool?

fecking hell

Some of ye are obsessed

Instead of making predictions and assumptions I'm going to wait and see if we sign him, and then how he does when the season starts. A lot of money being quoted but we haven't spent hugely since summer 2018.

Liverpool will get £50m from Fulham for Origi to fund this.
He’s already gone to Milan (for free I think). Bournemouth got promoted though so I’m sure they’ll take someone crap for 50 million.

Sorry what? Obsessed for stating a very simple basic fact? Ronaldo is 37. Ronaldo will demand he starts far more games than not. Ronaldo plays as striker. Ergo I’m slightly confused how it’s more likely Nunez starts ahead of Ronaldo than fecking Firmino who has been dropped a fair bit recently. It’s pretty basic stuff.

You're loving Liverpool signing a player you rate? Cool
I'm loving the meltdown.

Just a few days ago most were writing him off. Now he's a world beater. It's glorious to see entitlement in all it's glory rear it's ugly head.

We don't want him, but you can't have him either!

I honestly think they've shit themselves a bit with Mane leaving and City having already signed Haaland.
What part of Liverpool’s squad build and transfer activities over the past 5 years suggests they’d jump into a transfer without a clear reason or strategy?

There are a string of failing football clubs that engage in this approach, but not Liverpool.

According to the same people? Hope you've checked.

Doubt you've jumped into this without thought. But that doesn't mean you've got it right of course.

Liverpool don't tend to miss with their scouting. If nothing else another tower for set pieces which they are already one of the best in the league at.

The Ronaldo deal was just bad planning all round for our forward department.

Liverpool can afford to overspend on a player because they don't have many players to buy
Why can't people understand it?

Ultimately I think he might be good in the right team but I'm not sure we'd be the right team. And his price has been inflated based on a season of unsustainable returns.

He may well suit Liverpool more than he would us and it may well be that they have the luxury of being able to overspend to secure their prime target as they have much fewer positions to strengthen. Even still, I certainly wouldn't be overly upset if Liverpool spend massive money to secure Nunez ahead of us.

"Hope you've checked" oh behave.

I'm going by the behaviour of the majority here. The majority of posts were writing him, now the majority of the posts are doing derivatives of calling the club inept and or getting panicky because he's (seemingly, nothing signed yet) going to Liverpool.

Cut that 'checked' BS out.

TBF that seems to be the going rate for promising players, 100m for Tchouameni is just as outrageous but there you have multiple clubs bidding for him.

Yeah true, I actually thought it was a joke when someone said he was £100m.

You've just lost one of the best DoFs in football, no telling what your new strategy might be. Maybe your scouts have said he's the next van Nistelrooy. Maybe you've shit yourselves because City signed Haaland and the £80m you were saving for Tchouameni is now burning a hole in your pocket. All we know for certain is you're about to spunk £100m on a lad who's had 1 good season in Portugal.

Utd also needs to overpay to get top tier talent. Otherwise, why someone would choose us over other UCL clubs?

Surely we'll reach a stage soon where clubs realise it's no longer worth forking out a hundred mil on a player when so many are happy to just run down their contracts after 4 years?

Translation: Liverpool is one step away from signing the Uruguayan Darwin Núñez. There is already a formal offer for Benfica of € 80M plus 20 for achievable objectives. With the Uruguayan, and contractual agreement until June 2027.

‘Maybe’ doing a lot of heavy lifting here.

What are your initial thoughts? From what I understand he will match your pure workrate style and be brilliant at chasing the balls you pop over the top of defenders.

It's a lot of money but I do trust Klopp and the club when it comes to transfers. They don't get many wrong, especially when it comes to attacking signings. He seems to fit the mold in terms of what Klopp wants as well. His age is encouraging. Jota, Diaz and Nunez are all early to mid 20's where as Salah, Mane & Firmino are all hitting 30.

Still, won't know how good a signing he is until he starts to kick a ball for Liverpool (assuming this gets over the line).

A big part of the reason Liverpool have been so successful in their recruitment is that they target players who actually suit their style of football. In other words if they were recruiting for an ETH team rather than a Klopp team, it would be a different set of targets.

It might be that Nunez is a player who would overlap onto both lists but it shouldn't be taken as read that a good signing for Liverpool is a good signing for us. And my instinct is that Nunez suits Klopp's style of play better.

As long as he score goals and I think he will. Great striker will always find the net. Kate isn't pacy, doesn't look anything WC yet he find goals every season. If ETH feels that he is the real deal then sign him up. Another season like this, big clubs will be in for him.
You're right Kate isn't pacy, what about Kane though?

We don't have enough cash and are seemingly banking on FDJ being the big transfer. Several reports have already indicated that midfield seems to be the priority.

You're a finished club and you know it.
No one says they’re finished, it’s just a hilarious amount of money to be spending on him and feels incredibly United-esque.

Can't see us signing the Portuguese Andy Carroll - 'Pool will probably snap him up for €35 million after selling Curtis Jones to Bournemouth for £68 million and a 50% sell on fee.

Liverpool are acting quick and in the process of replacing Mane and Origi with Nunez. Klopp is horribly good at this. They’ll see him as their new Torres and no doubt he’ll be a big hit. And of course, we sit back and do absolutely jack all.

Klopp will have had him scouted all season knowing that Mane and Origi may both leave and with Salah nearing his end at the club too. I assume he must suit Klopp’s style of football and they’ll land their target.

It is hilarious just how much the narrative on him in this thread has changed now he’s linked heavily with Liverpool. I know it’s to be expected, but bloody hell it’s shameless.

I would choose Liverpool everyday over us, so I’m not going to be at all surprised if this deal goes through. Could be bollocks also.

If true, he could flop also but I highly doubt he will and I’m more than certain he will score a few past us when we get trounced home and away by the scousers.

This Klopp transfer guru is a myth - he has made some good signings but he had a nucleus of a very good team - everyone appears great slipping into a really good functioning team, however, once that team starts to decline it won’t appear so much that way. Because he had a purple patch doesn’t mean it will continue

Liverpool have peaked with this years quadruple failure and I guarantee that all future signings won’t have the same impact - it is the inevitable cycle that ends.

Also - they have been able to keep a good status quo on players and salaries - as soon as that gets busy then the dissent comes. Mane goes this year, Salah next and then who else? They would be big boots to fill for Nunez and Diaz/Jota.
