Darwin Núñez / signs for Liverpool

Where’s the 80m come from? Reckon we can get FDJ for less then 80… Barca are desperate for money and should take whatever they get offered. Probably get done for about 60 with add ons. Timber probably cost about 30-35m if that’s the defender we want. What other strikers are available out there that we can buy? To get the best available you have to spend.
60 + 20 is our latest bid. 80 + 20 is Liverpools offer for Nunez. You do know we don't have unlimited budget ?

ETH is prioritizing midfield ahead of every other position and rightly so.

So get real and stop complaining for the sake of it.

100m for this one season wonder. All yours Klopp!

At least this talk will stop, “we are not like City and can’t sign 100m players!”

XG is 15 and change, 68% pass completion in Portugal Liga. My point is that the stats are not mind blowing. He looks a handful vs even big defenders, which is good, but we also aren’t talking about the next Harry Kane here…

We have a lot of pretty difficult fixtures, 10 vs the top 6, then you have Leicester and West Ham, etc. At 85m… why not pay 45m for Schick? I dunno. It looks like he got a bit lucky with the xG and keeper errors, the defenders in the PL are a bit faster and bigger. Then again, when is the next big striker going to be available?

Honestly, I haven't seen enough of Nunez to make any informed judgement. I do quite like Schick, though.

Was clocked as the 2nd fastest player in CL play this past season, the pure pace of their frontline is going nowhere even with Mane leaving

I think by next summer Mane, Salah and Firmino will all be gone. This is another step towards trying to refresh and replace that front line.

I hope he flops badly but you have that dreaded feeling Klopp will make a player out of him and I can see him going for >€100m when it comes to them selling him.

I hate this nightmare we are living in where Liverpool are seriously linked to some of the best and most expensive players in the world. It seems like only yesterday when they were throwing away hard earned money on the likes of Carrol and Benteke. Good I hate Klopp and his wife who for mysterious reasons thinks that Liverpool is paradise on earth. What’s not to like in Barcelona for Christ sake :nervous:

Liverpool going for a traditional striker for the first time since Klopp arrived, maybe he will slot seamlessly in their system but I doubt it.

I said at the time when Klopp extended his contract that this was the only trophy I wanted this season. Screw the quadruple.

Now you can see the results of that decision. Players like Nunez absolutely want to go nowhere else. He wants to spend the next four years of his life in a permanent bear hug.

I hope we are on the verge of signing a midfielder. Not too fussed if we lose out on Nunez. He will however strengthen a mane-less Liverpool in terms of raw pace.

I'm glad the days of us dropping ludicrous money on a single player are over.

This Klopp transfer guru is a myth - he has made some good signings but he had a nucleus of a very good team - everyone appears great slipping into a really good functioning team, however, once that team starts to decline it won’t appear so much that way. Because he had a purple patch doesn’t mean it will continue

Liverpool have peaked with this years quadruple failure and I guarantee that all future signings won’t have the same impact - it is the inevitable cycle that ends.

Also - they have been able to keep a good status quo on players and salaries - as soon as that gets busy then the dissent comes. Mane goes this year, Salah next and then who else? They would be big boots to fill for Nunez and Diaz/Jota.
This all sounds beautiful but to be quite frank it’s a load of bollocks.

Klopp has built everything that Liverpool have now. Every player in their squad he has brought in or he has nurtured into what they are now. Just like he is doing with Diaz, Jota and Konate and like he will do with Carvalho and any new signings that come in. No one ever thought Mane, Salah, Firmino, Robertson, Trent, Henderson would get to the levels they have.

Last year, this guy wasn't mentioned in the striker market. This shows every year, you will see new name come out so I'm not too concerned that we make this guy as the least priority for this summer. We need to focus on midfield first because it's more urgent than forward as we already have Ronaldo in the position and we still haven't sell Rashford and Martial, which can be an option for Ronaldo's backup. I'm not saying we should ignore the forward position this summer if we get the chance to upgrade but the priority should be on midfield and centre back and then we will see what we have left and how much we can sell to add extra fund for forward.

Yeap. I guess we don't have £200million to spend then. And ETH is willing to spend whatever it takes to get FDJ even at the expense of Nunez. FDJ better perform from the get-go.

I still think we need a striker to back up Ronnie. Maybe we bring in a free agent and shuttle/rotate in one or two of the kids from the academy for the cup games? McNeil?

Right now Pool is at the top of football circle and we need to accept that.
We had our time and now its theirs. so they might get few of our targets which is understandable but the market is vast and we could still target few other good players who can improve us.

In our hay days, Liverpool still signed our targets likeTorres, Alonso. so in given time if we build it right with a set of good players I am sure its a matter of time we can pull the cream again.

For our market reach and commercial landscape, if we win a couple of trophies withTen Hag's coaching style that could put us back in the map.

Liverpool averaged 63% possession in the league last season. They’re a possession based team.

They weren’t even second in PL based on possession. He won’t suit Pep’s city but he will suit to Klopp’s Liverpool. Klopp was never known as possession based, he’s more on high intense pressing with aggression. Good example was in 18/19 final UCL, Klopp had less possession than Poch.

Sure they dominate possession but their domination was down to their midfield and defenders that capable to retain possession, while Pep wants everyone including the forwards to be good in retaining possession.

Sofascore has them as 63% so not sure which of them is correct. But regardless I feel like any team who gets 92 points has to be a possession team because everyone parks the bus against them. Even from watching them it’s like they sustain attacks for 90 minutes, look how high their centre backs are. 59% is still massive.

£45m for Schick? Just extended contract to 2027 two weeks ago... don’t think that price gets him.

Their possession style is more on midfield and defenders. Klopp forwards always direct with good work rate to press. The following below shows Klopp system wasn‘t relying on possession based team as they can win their games without relying on possession. Pep is more possession team.

One game shows they’re not a possession team? They dominate possession in 95% of games they play. And they won that game due to a dodgy penalty in the first minute, hardly a great advert for them.

I posted further to this to clarify.

However, they have peaked and so has he.
It’s all downhill from here. Mane is the first domino. Others will follow.

Nunez will not be the answer.

I kinda hope he fails there so it puts huge pressure on them, he hasn't had a big signing (aside from Keita maybe ) go extremely wrong, there's first for everything and considering their gigantic failure in the last season (well figuratively) it could perhaps be the beginning of the end for the daddy shiny tooth.

Apparently we're trying to do this as 68 million up front and around 20 million in add ons. Would be very Liverpool to try and do it that way.

I wonder if selling clubs sometimes prefer that because they can guarantee some money later on.

I don't know, shouldn't they prefer the money upfront? After all money losses some of its value over time due to inflation and other stuff.

Amortization is usually to the advantage of the paying party i think.

Hmm maybe. Depends on the club maybe? What if a club like Benfica fails to qualify for the 2023/24 CL next season but has a nice 20 million coming in from part of the Nunez deal to soften the blow?

Me too! On both points!
Schick renewed his contract 2 or 3 weeks ago, apparently without any release clause. He won't go anywhere soon.

He was my favorite by far to replace Lewandowski :(

That would make sense if they're not confident in themselves of spending responsibly which looking at most clubs in Europe is probably true.

I've always said that anything over 50m for Nunez seemed to be very risky, even 50m a risk tbh.

It is however the first time I can remember Liverpool 'outmuscling' us in the transfer market in quite some time. Also I think it's the fact that Liverpool over us was a 'no brainer' for him, that's our current reality.

I suppose we could have outmuscled them had we put on say a 120 mill bid and gavi him 400 k a week wages but should we have done that? Probably not.
