Mikel Arteta | Lego Pep watch

There were several posters on here who wanted Xhaka, a year ago people wanted Tierney and last summer plenty of people wanted Partey. They've all been poor overall this season

Gabriel has probably been their best player

Partey did a number on our midfield when we played them. I havent seen him since, has he been injured?

Several Arsenal players did great that day. Lacazette and Saka's pressing from the front gave us big problems.

Tierney is not that bad and has been hit with a few injuries. A step up on Shaw and would take any day of the week.

Arteta is not an elite manager for sure. He might not even be an average one, time and his future coaching positions will tell. But the bigger problem for Arsenal is their slow, inevitable decline as a major club. Since Kroenke bought them, their fortunes have dwindled and are no longer thought of as contenders in the PL or CL in any way.
Big managers should beware of that job.

Grim reading if you're an Arsenal fan
  • Defeat means Arsenal have now lost four straight league games at home for the first time in 61 years.
  • The Gunners have gone 12 hours and 32 top-flight minutes without finding the net from open play.
  • With four wins and a draw after 12 games, this is their worst start to a top-flight season since 1974-75, when they had won two and drawn three.
  • Their tally of 10 goals after 12 Premier League games is their lowest at this stage of a top-flight season since 1981-82, when they had eight.
  • Arsenal have received six Premier League red cards since Mikel Arteta took charge last December, double that of any other side in the same timeframe

The guy plays bellerin, xhaka, holding every week even when his young players have shown much more than these turds. He has to take the blame now. Shambolic stuff from him. He could have easily given AMN , Smith Rowe, Nelson, Balagoun chance to shine. I am not even including saliba who has been frozen out. The guy is sabotaging his job and is a goner.
That's what is funny. These players are hopeless, specially Xhaka. There is no upside to playing him regularly, kinda like how Lingard was for us but worse even, just play a youth player or someone else. There's nothing to lose and everything to gain.

Just shows how knee jerk the game is, a couple of months ago the pundits were wetting themselves over how Arteta's Arsenal had an identity and it was clear where they were going. It was a big stick to beat United with.

I think he deserves time, its not like Arsenal were contenders when he took over and I don't see anyone coming in and changing things in the short term, especially if they've nto got the transfer funds available.

Did Tierney just forget how to use his legs for couple of seconds or something. What the feck happened there.
No idea but it's just hilarious. Savour it. I had to take stick over the RVN penalty miss and Keown jumping into his face.

They deserve it. Big mouth twats

Kroenke making sure Arsenal are becoming irrelevant one season at a time.
Compared to them the Glazers aren’t so bad

A decade and a half old grudge. I love it

Just like how Jose would never join Spurs which he said it himself in press conference.
Poch said same thing, they all say it to suck up to fans of the current club:

Mauricio Pochettino has been talking about Barcelona and specifically coments he made back in 2018 when he said it would be impossible for him to manage at the Camp Nou.

The former Tottenham boss felt that his past with Espanyol, where was both player and manager, would prevent him from ever being Barca boss.

Pochettino has now given an interview where he was asked to explain his comments and seemed to backtrack on his claims about never managing at the Camp Nou.

“I was in Barcelona that year and I met [Barcelona president] Bartomeu in a bar. We greeted each other because we were taking the children to the same school and we were talking for five minutes. That generated a rumor that set off alarms because there were more teams that wanted us, and when they asked me I wanted to settle it drastically.
“I did not want to disrespect Barcelona. I could have said things differently. Espanyol has made a name for me. But I’m not arrogant and I didn’t like making a statement like that. Maybe now I wouldn’t because in life you never know what will happen.”

The 48-year-old has been out of work since being sacked from Tottenham in November after five years in north London.

The difference here is the difference between the draw for managing Barcelona vs Arsenal. I think any manager would jump at the chance to manage Barcelona and even Poch would consider it even with his history with Espanol. Arsenal is a totally different situation - it's a big club sure but nowhere near the level of a Barcelona so I don't think he would even consider managing them because of his history with Spurs.

I could be wrong of course but I genuinely think that Poch does feel quite a deep affection for the clubs he has managed and their fans so he would think twice about going to a club he knows would be controversial - i.e. direct rivals.

I don't understand why Ozil is being treated like a pariah while Xhaka has made a mockery of that club and still gets to prance around wearing the arm band until not so long ago.

Has a victory ever been as wildly overhyped as Arsenal beating us last month?

It was two poor teams playing an appalling boring match that they managed to nick because of Pogba giving away, yet another, stupid penalty.

And yet the media would have you believe it was some masterclass by Arteta and proof they were on the road back to glory. It was bizarre.

Their next 4 games are Southampton, Everton and Chelsea and Brighton. At best, I give them one win. Maybe, they'll beat Brighton but I can't see them winning any of the three games before that.

I like to see a manager given a full season or before talk of the sack starts but the run of form Arsenal are on means they're going to have to consider changing the manager in the next month or so if things don't improve. Problem is who'd go there? Arteta, being an Arsenal stalwart, was too grateful for the opportunity to turn it down. I doubt we could say the same about Allegri for example.

Whoever they eventually get in has a huge job on their hands. They need rid of a bunch of high earners and get in some replacements. The issue is there's apparently very little money for transfers so how do you go about that?
If the fans, the board and the media aren't ready for years of rebuilding then it really is a thankless task.

Yeah the club is a total shambles at the moment and anybody going in there has a real mess to try and sort out.

Yup. With quite a few people on here drinking the kool aid. I even thought their rope a dope wins over good teams towards the end of last season were being wildly overhyped. Relying on David Luiz to do 90 minutes heroic last-ditch defending is not a sustainable strategy to win football matches.

I actually think they will win Vs Southampton purely because Xhaka and Bellerin aren't playing.

Thing is that Arsenal are exactly where they should be based on performances. Just like last season. Which makes the positive press Arteta has received so baffling.

Weren't they overachieving last season? Could swear they were bottom half on XP. They were in Emery's first season aswell (10 points more than what they deserved).

Yes you are right. They were 12th in the xG table (with a negative shot, SoT and xG differential). The drop off in performances after Wenger left (for whatever reason) is dramatic. I need to find that shot bar chart I posted somewhere earlier this season.

Exiled their only playmaker, exiled their 27M centre-back signing, exiled a DM who's better than who he kept, cancelled sales of AMN and Xhaka, offered extension to Mustafi, gave that last big contract to Aubameyang and Willian, signed Mari and Soares only for them to literally never play in the league. Clearly Arteta has no idea what he's doing. It's like they gave the job to a random fan.
