Those morons can’t believe we are even an option, these briefings are a joke.

‘Man Utd would be a mistake’ haha feck off, he’s obviously thinking about the offer then.

Muppets...assemble.

The only bonkers decision to come to us over other top clubs is Pogba. But even then we had Mourinho newly arrived and positivity about the future. Now we have rumours of Pogba leaving every month and everyine fearing the worst for us.

Not sure how we get out of this hole but Mbappe/ De Light type signings cant be a serious strategy for us. Either we throw money at old stars to fund their retirement (yuck), or we follow the model of Liverpool/Spurs and hope we dont suck at it.

I genuinely want this to happen more than anything. Not only because he’s a great player but it would absolutely stick 2 fingers up to those stuck up wankers. They’re lucky they fell into messi otherwise they’d have half of what they have now.

The way they think top talents will join them for half the money just because of their name is ridiculous

Valverde staying at Barca, come on De Ligt, you’d much rather be at Ole’s wheel:

The lack of respect we get from the world of football is something we’ve brought on ourselves. Makes me sick how fecking inept we’ve been. This has to be the summer it changes. We need to be back competing within the next 2 seasons and signings like this would get us there.

He’s a generational talent; probably the best defender for his age in European football. Captain of a CL semifinal team at 19.

We didn’t balk at paying a record fee for a teenager when we bought Ronaldo, and we did the same with Rio and Rooney.
Very true.

A signing like this would however it is unlikely and also an easy out for Woodward. I think we are going to have to work much harder and be much more creative in our desire and intent to improve. Everything is on Ole. Woodward's muppet disneyland strategy has only led to massively overpaying our already mediocre squad players. It sent the wrong signal both in and out the club and set us up to be milked by agents and the media. What Liverpool have done is beyond his comprehension..... but we need to build like this and quickly.

”Manchester United got mentioned but that would be a mistake from De Ligt. He would want to play Champions League and he can go to other big clubs that do play Champions League.’”

The most stupid opinion ever. One fecking season without CL and thats a mistake. The kid is 19 years old ffs.

It's not just one season though is it. Life since SAF, so where we are as a club, shows he's likely to spend as much time out of the competition as in it. Every other club that could sign him are guaranteed to be in it.

Agree. Most pundits think the club is in freefall at thr moment. They maybe utterly wrong about next season but ask any neutral (not haters) about our chances of top 4 and they will probably say 50/50.

Considering we had a stinker under Jose to start with, we finished very close to the top 4.

If we can start better and not have a wobbly ending, we will get it. We definitely need signings this summer though.

We cannot fight the market and inflation. Wages are going up because the transfer market has exploded. Transfer value and wages are correlated, its just how it is. We cant buy a player for 70-80m like De Ligt and expect him to settle for anything less than 250k or even more. It does not compute.
This idea that we should battle wage increases by ourselves are naive. Todays football market is global and wages and transfer fees are not so negotiable that people seem to think. The football market is not that different from a stock or commodity market where wages and transfer fees are decided by simple economic theory.
This idea that we can affect transfer fees and wages more than marginally by our own behaviour is again: naive.
If we do sign De Ligt; then his transfer fee and wages is market value.
Rashford demanding 300k is also quite reasonable due to his transfer value, which being English and everything probably is close to 100m.

I don't get where you can throw about this and that being naive. We have the second highest wage bill on the planet and we are not even among the 20 best teams. So obviously we've been run absolutely terribly.

There are only about a handful of players earning around that figure or more, those are established super stars at Barca, Real and PSG. Hard to tell with City and their shady dealings, but probably them too.

Signing a 19 year old - albeit very promising - player and giving him 350K (again, and I stress, if true) would be insane. Giving Rashford 300K would be even worse. No other club on the planet would give Rashford that kind of money (same applies, if those rumours are true).

I'm pretty sure more than half our players are earning more at United than they could ever dream of getting elsewhere. That's my problem with continuing a policy of absolute madness. That being said, I don't imagine de Ligt has any interest in joining United and I think what is getting us mentioned is our willingness to pay more to the agent.

Chelsea are going to loose Hazard and can't reinforce because of transfer ban. Spurs are likely loose Eriksen. Man UTD might loose Pogba and De Gea, but we would have the funds to replace them and as well reinforce other positions. Arsenal will reinforce on the cheap. Next season we should have more balanced squad and at the minimum get the 4th spot. If we don't, it would be a worse failure than this season.

Hazard goes to Madrid, Chelsea get their transfer ban upheld & we sign De Ligt... I think we'd finish above them. Then it's just Arsenal to beat & we're Top 4...

I like your passion. We need to keep this. But if you look at our league performance we are the equivalent of what tottenham used to be. So players have to risk join that level of success vs joining clubs vying for the biggest prizes in football.

You could argue the same about Liverpool. In the doldrums for donkeys years, but they get a superb manager, don’t spend mega fortunes and end up De Ligt years ahead of us right now. City and Pool have proven you don’t need to go the galacticos route to be successful. You just need to pick the right manager for this day and age, a manager that is really in tune with how the game is developing, a scouting network that functions along side it. We don’t have any of it sadly right now.

The Dutch literally said hours ago City and United weren’t in. They know nothing so I’m not sure why people were crying about them being super reliable.

Marcel Van Der Kraan is the chief editor of Dutch daily De Telegraaf. Who is the other chap?

Tbf it might be more than one. I wouldn't bet on us getting top 4 atm

If you want a ‘guaranteed’ too 4, don’t come to the PL. Here, the only guarantee you can get is the next season. With the top 6 here, no team can guarantee a player a top 4 spot beyond the coming season. In Spain, Real can be shite as they have been but still be guaranteed. That wouldn’t have cut it here.

2 different Joirnalists saying 2 opposite things.

Right now it’s purely to fill paper columns.

De Ligt said himself he has a choice, it’s him alone that knows what he’s going to do.

It is getting tedious all this "Only go to United for the money". As if it's just pure romance alone him going to other big clubs.

Do these guys at the De telegraph know that Utd are not in the CL next year and might be back the following year? They talk as if we will never be in the CL..

It is a bizarre concept, that a player won't come to us because we're not in it next year. Would they instead go to some minnow who are in it, but may only get 6 games? Course not.

I can't believe many players really value a few games in a cup over the overall package.
Noone flocked to Leicester because they were in it for example

Well,Barca is on the decline. When did theylast had CL glory?

Us not having cl this season is just one season. We can be back at it next year.

He prefers the premier league according to the De Telegraaf Journo Van der kraan.

Barca had first option on him, but it seems that first option means diddly squat right now if the Dutch Journo is to be believed, with City and United now interested.

You can refuse to go along with it and instead pursue alternative strategies in the belief that the current bubble will burst. This is an available choice.

Simply going along with the market is not an unavoidable imperative.

valentijn driessen is the head football of telegraaf but is well-known in Holland for just talking shite. I've said it before but it's bizarre how the head of the most Ajax-informed newspaper can be so incredibly uninformed, or act it at least.

Mike Verweij is their tier 1 journalist on Ajax matters and Driessen just regurgitates Spanish tabloids for the most part. he also has some strange vendetta against Ten Hag that is a running joke in Holland

The problem is that you feel de Ligt is an example of that bad wage management. I don't think that's true. Players that are not a hot commodity are the problem with United.

How many matches did Darmian take part of? Can we not fill his minimal role with O'Connor or Laird? How about Valencia? Why did Lingard get the wages he's on? Was he a threat to leave? No. Anybody that would want him could not offer him the wages he got at United and they were all a step down. Why did Jones get another contract when Tuanzebe could have filled his squad role, provided we do sign a CB?

That is where the waste occurs. De Ligt is not an example of this. He is a necessary asset for where United are currently. We need him to transform the outlook of the club so that we can keep a player like Pogba and attract other high end talent because our reputation is currently a sinking ship. We need people to buy into our rebuild project.
