So they are going to sack their manager and looking at a cheaper alternative to Greasyman. will this swing more in Barca direction again?
Can’t really see how sacking your manager and director of football is a positive for any incoming player. It’ll certainly change their plans.

Muppet galore this summer, you know Ed goes crazy whenever we miss out on the CL.

Might pain you to admit it - but Liverpool have been in 2 champions league finals in a row. They finished way ahead of us this year and have a fantastic manager. Of course they deserve to be mentioned with the others.

They aren’t the old Liverpool anymore, it’s clear they are going somewhere.

Anyway on topic praying we get De Ligt, what a statement if we do
No it doesn't pain me one bit. They finished comfortably below us last season and we won more than them over the last 3 seasons too. Yeah they have had a very good season, but one good season doesn't mean they are in the same discussion as Barca, Bayern or Madrid or heck even City.

I've been out of it for the last couple of days. Are we back on? Has there been a briefing? What's coming out of Spain?
As the title says no significant news. Gerard Romero said Barca are looking for alternatives to De Ligt (and Griezmann), Castles said yesterday Utd's offer is far superior to Barca (5 mil per year more if he's right) and the most reliable journo on Barca said that Utd are in for De Ligt but are not close to signing him yet. And then said the same Catalan propaganda shite that De Ligt only wants to go to there.

Just 12 days 9 hours left of this saga! <3

Genuine question with two ifs: If we were to sign him, and if rumours of a +300K deal are true, do people think that's a sensible move?

Yes. He's going to be world class.
I honestly feel that this would be a Rio type signing.

I don't think he's done as much to show his worth as Rio did when we bought him. But yes, he's the hottest CB talent around. Still, +300K? I think that would mean we've completely lost control of the wage structure.

What would your top figure be?

I don't know. I mean, money would obviously be a huge factor in him coming to us if that would indeed happen. Part of it would be the agent fee (don't mind that given the opportunity and our shite defense, though that whole part of the game is out of control) but I'm hoping it's nearer 150-200K. Then there's room to increase his wages and tie him down further when he inevitably would get linked to Barca/Real/Bayern later on.

Let's say rumours of 350K is true, what is then the new benchmark for squad players? 200K? And if he wouldn't have a great time of it for the first 1-2 seasons, what would the other players be asking for? That's sort of what I'd worry about.

Don't get me wrong, I'd absolutely love for us to sign him. But not at any cost though.

Likewise, I really hope rumours of 300K for Rashford are widely off the mark. He's not proven anything yet really. Should be incentivised deal starting at 150 maybe. If he plays well, he earns more (goals, trophies, etc.)

All the reports in Spain state 14m euros, which is about 240k a week. It's a lot, but I think there is potential for an increase there, especially with the way revenue is rising in football.

It's certainly better than 350K.

This transfer imo could make or break our summer. If we can land de Ligt I think it would go a long way in convincing other potential signings that its worth the risk to join us, and if we can't get him it may well make our summer much more difficult.

Can someone pretend to be ITK and say they've spotted his parents at their local Tesco or something... This saga is losing momentum :boring:

After all this, I'd be pissed if he goes to some other club other than United and Barca.

Just like Thiago, all the back and forth between United signing him and Barca wanting to keep him, only for him to end up at Bayern

I learned a valuable lesson that day. I learned that muppetry can really hurt you.

We cannot fight the market and inflation. Wages are going up because the transfer market has exploded. Transfer value and wages are correlated, its just how it is. We cant buy a player for 70-80m like De Ligt and expect him to settle for anything less than 250k or even more. It does not compute.
This idea that we should battle wage increases by ourselves are naive. Todays football market is global and wages and transfer fees are not so negotiable that people seem to think. The football market is not that different from a stock or commodity market where wages and transfer fees are decided by simple economic theory.
This idea that we can affect transfer fees and wages more than marginally by our own behaviour is again: naive.
If we do sign De Ligt; then his transfer fee and wages is market value.
Rashford demanding 300k is also quite reasonable due to his transfer value, which being English and everything probably is close to 100m.

I went to the local Tesco and left my dog at my neighbour's mother-in-law. She took him to the local grooming salon, where he met Raiola's dog, and sniffed her ass. Upon return, dog took a piss on the newspaper speaking about United's and Barca's interest. Staying at Ajax obviously.

Didn't De Ligt himself say that he read his rumoured salary and laughed about it? It's obviously not true.

 You don't really believe this BS do you.
We've got the second highest wage bill in world football, it's hardly inconceivable that we would offer such a ludicrous amount to a 19 year old based on our track record.

We are not offering £350k a week for him.
