Red-Man-Walking

Just back from seeing it, feck I love this series. Have a few gripes, particularly with the second act, but overall was just another excellent action film in the series.Anyone else seen this yet?

Yep, went to see it on Wednesday and I was really looking forward to it. Can’t quite put my finger on what it is exactly, but thought it was really disappointing compared to the first two.Anyone else seen this yet?

Started of well, especially the knife fight. But then just went downhill, just felt a bit cheesy
Hyped!Really enjoyed it. Would have liked it if there was more world building.
They have set up John Wick 4 nicely.
Just back from watching it. Felt exactly the same. Started off so fecking good. That first knife fight. Unreal. But gradually deteriorated from there. All the bits between the fights were lame as hell and in the final quarter, even the fights became a bit dull. Still enjoyable overall though. The beginning was gripping, I felt that we could be heading towards greatness.
But then as the movie went on, the convenience of the plot armor begins to show..oh and yes how ridiculous the high table is.
The fights suddenly became too choreographed for me. Bad guys doesn't retaliate with realism, sword fights felt like chinese action movies, etc.
The main gripe about the action scenes are that it became too wired, it lost its magic from the first 2 movies. As you are reaching towards the end, it felt tired and draggy.
This is the weakest entry for me. 7/10.
That one scene when Halle Berry character put that one guy in submission and then the poor guy gasping for air with both of his hands on the air shaking. Then berry just shoots other guys with ease. I mean, tackle her ffs! sums it all up for meJust back from watching it. Felt exactly the same. Started off so fecking good. That first knife fight. Unreal. But gradually deteriorated from there. I have no complaints about the lack of realism, just that the fights feel over-choreographed and over-stylized. It loses impact for me.Why are folks here complaining about the lack of realism? Its John Wick.
No Seal Team 6, SAS/SBS or Delta Team guy on his best day can do what John Wick does. Its meant to be outrageous/campy and OTT.
Yeap. Bigger budgets will do that to you.I have no complaints about the lack of realism, just that the fights feel over-choreographed and over-stylized. It loses impact for me.
It's why I also liked The Raid 1 more than The Raid 2. The fighting from the 1st movie felt more gripping, more hard-hitting.
Exactly. It felt like the bad guys are so incompetent in this one. Funnily enough they just let John Wick man handle them with ease.I have no complaints about the lack of realism, just that the fights feel over-choreographed and over-stylized. It loses impact for me.

Saw this last night and really enjoyed it as expected. Reeves is an amazing action star and Mark Dacascos was a great addition as his main adversary.
The opening few fight scenes were brutal and hilarious (library, knife and stable fights), felt that it sagged in the middle a bit with the whole Casablanca/Desert excursion but then came back strong with the last 30 minutes exploding into proper gun porn and martial arts ballet. Cracking stuff setting up the 4th one nicely (May 21st 2020 apparently) which I assume will beJohn, Winston et al going to war with the High Table
Would rate them 1>3>2 overall.
Tbf you cant make a good action scene without it being coreographed. Real fights are ugly to watch, oh and real life gunfight will end up pretty boring. Finally got around go watch it. What can i say, it didn't disappoint
Can't wait for the 4
Edit: compared to the first two it does lean more heavily towards hong kong action movie homage(which it is, to be sure), action scenes are more coreographed, though still plenty spectacular(and as someone with some very basic training in stage fighting, really impressive, too)
Why not? His moves are bland and most of the time. It only works because of the plot. He's not the ilk of jackie chan when it comes to action he can keep up with a few more. Plus keanu doesnt seems to age alotWhen is Wick 4 coming out? I can't see keanu maintaining this level of physicality. Even Tom Cruise has clearly slowed down.
The combination of the ballet and fight training together at Belarusian school is how they saw the two art.Tbf you cant make a good action scene without it being choreographed. Real fights are ugly to watch, oh and real life gunfight will end up pretty boring.
My only grip is that john doesnt really mastered martial artist his moves is pretty wooden you know he's not a natural martial artist like yayan or cecep
If he doesn't have fast hands or fast legs, the fight scenes will look wooden. I need to go back and watch Wick 1 to see if his hands have slowed down, he never had fast feet anyway. He is 54y.o this year after all.Why not? His moves are bland and most of the time. It only works because of the plot. He was pretty slow you can see he's acting. Compared to movies like the raid and ong bak where the fight is much better. If he doesn't have fast hands or fast legs, the fight scenes will look wooden. Yeah I think they kind of peaked with the opening 30 minutes in terms of wtf action moments.I dont know what to say liked it but also lost interest for a while.
The movie is better than nr 2. But another good outing for the Wicks..
Fully agree, it really went a bit meh after that.Yeah I think they kind of peaked with the opening 30 minutes in terms of wtf action moments.
Just like a roller-coaster ride. Nevertheless, I enjoyed it. Great segue into Wick 4.Yeah I think they kind of peaked with the opening 30 minutes in terms of wtf action moments.
I just re-watched Wick 1. There was a lot more hand to hand combat, with guns scenes -- and he was definitely more physical in 1 than in 3 where he basically shot himself out of trouble. (They shot Wick 1 in 2013 when he was in his late 40s.)He was pretty slow you can see he's acting. Compared to movies like the raid and ong bak where the fight is much better.
No complain though, it just feels abit off since they potray wick as godlike kratos
Imo the 2nd was crap or at least lazy writing. The 3rd is much better.John Wick 2 was shite. Don’t expect this to be any better - wasn’t the sort of film which needed a sequel IMO. Is this at least better than the second?
Loved the first so if it is even half as good - I’ll give it a go and watch it.Imo the 2nd was crap or at least lazy writing. The 3rd is much better.
Depends blagg, story wise none of them are any good. But from a pure violence gun ballet it's better incrementally, the body counts keeps on increasing every sequel and John Wick got more and more sophisticated in his arsenal. The universe for me is the strong point, and it also didn't fail to disappoint, they've created a very interesting universe of Assassin world that's unique and interesting.I'm going to watch this sometime this week with Baby Blaggs. Is it as good as the first two?
