Madrid need to save face now the transfer ban is confirmed. If it appears they have let him go without a fight the fans will riot. My guess is it will drag on for a few weeks with lots of ersatz twists in the news, then be announced around 20th June.

Or... possibly 7th July - GR7/7/7... That would have some promo value.

My thoughts exactly.
This is a marketing ploy. They want to keep the "will they...won't they" train of thought and will continue teasing us, making huge money off of fans who can't stop clicking on the AG transfer news.
When the date of the transfer (which has probably already been decided) arrives, he will be unveiled.

Quite possibly a reference to the transfer ban too - "We can't bring anyone in, so now more than ever we stick together" etc etc

Only question is was that the plan from the beginning or was it now that we didnt go for him (for whatever reason)

Not sure it looked like Simeone had extracted everything he could from them last season and now they can't rejuvenate the squad this summer. Griezmann was at the perfect age for a move but if he doesn't want to push maybe it's for the best.
 
Time to move for the next transfer.

I still predict he'll remain this season then move on the next one. No time to wait for him, though.

Ed's probably moving now to the other targets.

Not sure you know, with the recent rumblings that Bale might be done with Real Madrid, and the rumours linking him to us, maybe we got confirmation that Real are open to selling so we've pulled the plug.

There's no way Mbappe is coming to us, i'm certain he's off to Real, and Morata is Milan bound, so i can't see any other reason why we'd pull the plug on Griezmann

If he does sign a new contract, I would definitely not go back for him.

Good player but we will have a year to scout elsewhere.

Still zero trophies. He won't the league, CL or any cup with them.

The team itself will go down shortly after Simeone leaves next summer. They have no project nor a future.

He was our top target this summer. Even if Bale was available, Griezmann was our man
