PL D FA Premier League

Manchester United 1:1 Liverpool

Post-match discussion

That's what you think the problem is?

Well, yes. How exactly do you expect to finish in the top 4 when you can't get better results than them, nor can you actually beat them when you play them?

I think this was a good game of football, but a good defensive performance. From both teams. It is incredibly hard to play nice-looking, good football when you play against someone that are well-organised, extremely fit and speedy on the counter. Liverpool made few mistakes, and did a great job hustling our players. Still we were able to create a ok amount of chances.

Top games are often decided by individual moments of greatness or mistakes, and it looked like we would've won today had we not given away a silly penalty early on. I also think we once again showed good spirit by slowly increasing the pressure throughout the second half, despite not getting much traction the first 20 minutes of it.

Disappointing to draw of course, but I disagree with those who thinks this was a crap performance by us. It was good, but so was Liverpool's.

I would even consider Martial as one as he did nothing against an 18 year old rookie

Oh ffs. He had three players all game on him and not once did he have a chance to run at the full back - still he managed to create havoc when he could.

If Martial stays on in the 2nd half, we win the game with the amount of space Rooney and Mkhi had down that flank.

Good to see United get a point out of this. I think that defensively United have played better this season against Liverpool than any other top 6 side. There's no doubt that Liverpool's press rattled United in the first half but in the second half they couldn't maintain the intensity and United looked better. I also thought that considering everything, United had the better chances and like in past matches were not clinical enough to convert them.

Pogba was overwhelmed by the occasion today and that's a real shame to see. Herrera was ok but he misplaced a few too many passes (especially the long range ones). Everyone else was solid but nothing more.

I realize that people are disappointed with not getting the 3 points. To be able to win consistently in these matches though United have to not be so wasteful with chances. In matches against the top 6 they won't get 10 chances a game like they do against lesser opposition. If this team wants to take the next step then clinical finishing has to be the point of improvement.

We should have done them, but we dint lose any points on them. Any hope for title is done for not that i had any. Lost 2 points to arsenal, but gained one on city and lost two tottenham who play city next week.

Woah.

Sky getting in a bit of a debate over Pogba

He was awful today

Under LVG I'd have killed to go unbeaten 16 games.
Under Jose, I think fans are expecting more.

It think it's just down to our league position. It makes every game feel like a must win.

No support from either Darmian or Carrick means he was constantly isolated.

Compare that with Henderson and Can magnificently protecting their FBs.

Loving the loving the scousers Souness and Carragher turning on each other on SS.

Put Rashford, Fellaini and Mata on instead and we may have won the game. Rooney ended up in around 2-3 1v1 situations on the left where rashford would have skinned the fullback alive, Rooney lost the ball every time due to being too slow and having bad decisionmaking. Rooney getting that goal to beat the record is most likely what got him on the pitch in the first place.

So, in the post match show, the pundits are:
Liverpool (Souness)
Liverpool (Carragher)
Arsenal (Henry)

Why are there no MUFC pundits in the studio?
Martin Tyler and Gary Neville are not enough? You need more representation?

What bother me is they played a kid in the left back and we didn't try to attack from that side, it really is annoying to have a left back that doesn't give any help in attack at all
We did attack that side in the first half, but he always had help and they double or even triple teamed Martial when he had the ball.

Really needed to win this and fecked it up due to 2-3 total blackout performances today (Pogba, Rooney and I would even consider Martial as one as he did nothing against an 18 year old rookie).
Very harsh on Martial. It was noticeable that every time he got the ball Liverpool would have three or even four people surrounding him. They were absolutely shit scared of him getting at that young fullback. The few times he actually got 1v1 (or even 1v2) he was doing some damage and creating some of our better chances.

Seriously deflating performance from us today and shows we have a load of improvements still to make. I thought Liverpool were completely in control and have dropped points thanks to our offside goal. Feels like a hollow point to me.
Why do you not post in the Zlatan thread anymore? Or are you just waiting until he goes two games without a goal and call him a fraud again?

19 goals and counting.

I really don't understand how anyone can think Liverpool controlled that game.

I also don't understand the general negativity. We weren't great, but had more clear cut chances, which is always very important to me.

2 fools. More sense from a few drunks in a crap bar.

Carragher is right though. There's only so much any one player can be responsible for being successfully blocked off. Pogba didn't respond well at all, but credit to Liverpool for the blocking

The amazing thing is that we are unbeaten in umpteen game, but still we are stuck in 6th place :annoyed:

Pogba needs to be more pragmatic. We're all in awe over his skills, but in a game like this you have to use your senses.

Didn't think he performance was that bad to be honest.
Pogba cost us the points. He does well in the easier games but the second a bit of pressure is applied he crumbles.
One of the worst performances in a United shirt in my living memory.

But it wasn't all Pogba, Rojo was shocking at points, and so were two favourites of mine Martial and Mkhitaryan.

Fellaini won us the point, caused Liverpool a whole load of issues in his short time out there today.

Herrera kept us on top in midfield, without him we would have been torn apart today.

We move on. Players have to start rising for these bigger games. Just keep cracking on.

The thing about the prevalence of the high pressing game is that it really drains out all the quality in matches between the top teams. It is what it is though.

We could have easily won this another day. They're 5 points ahead of us, I think 1-1 is a decent result for both teams. Definitely not our 'worst performance bar Chelsea' as some have said, that's just a stupid overreaction.

Thought Herrera was average, lots of wayward passes although a good setup to Mkhitaryan first half.

Not sure whether suited to such games, Fellaini's physicality clearly changed things. Herrera was definitely not covering enough ground first half.

Easy to criticise Pogba but the players around him need to do their share of running.
Nobody was good, but a few allowed their heads to drop or to be affected by the goings on in-game. Herrera kept chugging along all game and that was important.

Fellaini turned the game, but we still went to hoof-ball, and we don't need to do that just because he is on the pitch.

Pogba was clearly anxious at the start of the match and probably too charged - desperate to impress, I would imagine - and it severely compromised his game and then the incidents with Lovren happened. From there, he might as well not have been on the pitch. It's got nothing to do with anyone else, imo.

Not just that but Milner other side was clearly on the back foot whenever Valencia launched himself at him.

When Pogba is playmaker we do not have a pattern in attack, nor the personnel to set up transitional play effectively behind him against teams pressing so well and so high.

I think Valencia is always properly marked by Wijnaldum, which is a clever tactic by Klopp because Milner obviously is not a match for him physically, but Wijnaldum is really quick, you saw Valencia tried to run forward but Wijnaldum almost always tracked him properly

Sourness is such a dick. Talks absolute shite. How he gets on TV, I'll never know.

Nah, fair play, he's doing really well. However, his goalless streak, during which he missed loads of chances, contributes to the fact that we find ourselves so far off the top. He was fecking awful during that run, so no apologies from me. To be honest, Fellaini showed him how to hold the ball up today, but fair play for a great goal.
