I quite enjoyed Now You See Me last night. Is the sequel any good? I'm betting no.
I thought it was weaker than the first one, which was enjoyable til about the 3rd act (which I felt was a bit contrived). Plus the second one has Harry Potter and his horrific acting in it. I really don't recommend it.

I put off watching old films for years, I have a couple more Hitchcocks to watch North by North West and the one recommended to me Rope.
I will be back watching my crap soon.
Dont be put off watching old Black and white films, most are better than the rubbish made today.
If you are only going to watch a couple of Hitchcock, Dial M and Rear Window should be your first stop.
You must have watched Psycho? Oft-stated, but the atmosphere the music builds is the blueprint.

Okayish movie that follows the now quite familiar recipe of family \ house haunted by a spirit or being. A little twist on the classic tale by the mother actually inviting the spirit, and the family battling themselves as much as the spirit or ghost. Produced by James Wan from the Conjuring series so there is a certain scare factor going on, but never enough to set it apart amongst superior alternatives like the Conjuring series or the Insidious series. If you like these kind of movies then I would recommend it, but in general I am not too convinced. Still managed to keep me engaged throughout, and it passed the "times I use my smartphone to access the internet during the movie" test.

If you were watching this in a cinema then you are everything that's wrong with the world.

Star Trek Beyond

It was not what I expected, its was not the huge blockbuster I thought it would be , it was more like a feature length episode.
The motorcycles and loud music , is not Star Trek, found it a bit silly. there was no real plot, if it was an ep in the series this would be just a filler, you watch and enjoy it but an hour later you have forgotten about it.
On saying that, I enjoyed it, it was typical Star Trek, the cast did their roles prefect , they make a good team.
This for me was the weakest out of the 3 reboot films, lets hope they make a better job of the next one.

Independence Day: Resurgence

I liked the first one and despite the bad reviews on here and elsewhere I was expecting something pretty decent.
OMG how wrong was I , if I did not know better, I would've thought this was made by Asylum for the Sci-Fi Channel.
This has to rank as one of the worst sequels EVER.
The next one and there will be a next one , has to be better than this pile of steaming dog turd.

Yeah, Beyond was not very good. I'm still not sure about bad guys motivations, he'd massacre millions of sentient beings for what exactly? Where all those dozens of thousands of drones come from, as in their encampment we see some hundred of them, why would the mining species leave them behind and why exactly do they explode? They breach hulls willy-nilly, yet slight touch between them and boom? If it was actually them colliding into each other, as it didn't look like that in film.

Lassie, that coming out of Pegg's mouth sounds so silly. If he was 20 years older, maybe...

Adrien Brody stars as a psychiatrist who's life spirals out of control when his patients and his past don't appear to be as it seems. I quite liked the first act of the film. Very well shot, well acted and intriguing but the foreshadowing is too on the nose and the film becomes very predictable. This is a problem as the film relies too heavily on it's twists 5/10

Neon Demon

Another style over substance film from Refn. Getting a bit sick and tired of these. Waaay too long and way to boring. Hated it despite the awesome cinematography and soundtrack. The director has become a parody of himself 3/10

I stayed away from this because I saw Refn's name associated, and I'd hated Only God forgives. Looks like I made the right choice.

I've decided to only watch English/Swedish language films for a while and what better way to start off than with Mr Turner...Offers a great sense of time and place but awfully mundane, needed more painting and sunsets. The Suidae they dressed up in the leading role did really well mimicking human behaviour though.

Triangle was a bit wank I thought. Loved the ship though.

The One I Love was much better for me. Bizarre, funny, romantic, dark. There are some inconsistencies with
doppelgangers
I believe, but nothing major. Team E1S1 btw here.

Where's my arc, Paulie?
Dangerous Crossing (1953) - A young bride is set to begin her honeymoon aboard a luxury liner. Her happiness does not last when she finds that her husband has disappeared. Trouble is, no one else ever saw him board the ship with her and his name has mysteriously dropped from the passenger list. Film Noir but with a female lead. Definitely worth it. 7/10

What's all that wrong with Inarritu?
It's mostly irrational dislike, or not...I do think he's a hack, is mostly flash´and no depth. His ego and smugness is quite annoying. He was really beating the dead horse with the self-important multiple and equally uninteresting narrative strands style. Oh, and feck magical realism.

I had the same issues with Beyond. The plot made no sense. I don't think they were drones either, every ship they went in had 2 pilots. So...? It's a shame it had potential but huge plot holes means it made no sense. Switch off your brain and it's fun but if you analysis it then it falls apart.

Didn't expect that The Nice Guys would be so hilarious. Ryan Gosling plays a great idiot. And anyone else got reminded of Ned Flanders whenever he shrieked? (which happens a lot :D)

He does that a lot. I watched him in 'The Place Beyond The Pines' with Eva Mendes and Bradley Cooper. He had this weird shrieky voice when he was robbing the banks. Must just be how he sounds when he screams.

Plus, where would Krall find the pilots for all of them? Just three Franklin members survived, including Krall. But there are thousands upon thousands of ships with crew.

I also enjoyed it a lot, although it's just struck me that I haven't thought about it once between watching it, and seeing your post just now.

Which isn't necessarily a criticism. Shane Black's 'Christmas in LA' noir movies are disposable cinema at its finest. If he just made one of them every 3 years for the rest of his life, I'd be more than happy.

Exactly, the entire premise of the film made no sense in the slightest. I think his rationale for wanting to murder millions of citizens was that he was abandoned. Yet he was a soldier so surely he'd understand that is part of the job. Just very odd.

The other two films were far more intelligent and better written.

The planet blows up because of the firepower of 3 hataks? A dozen hataks couldn't even dent an ori ship and our 304 destroyed the same ori ship with 2-3 shots with our uber asgard beams.

It needed to be far funnier IMO. I think I had one laugh and about 3 smiles during it.

It was pretty crap sadly. I stopped trying to make sense of the plot well before the end.

The Conjuring 2

Loved it , way better than I thought it would be.
James Wan got this just right, plenty of scary bits, thought Nun was very scary.
Best horror I have seen for a long time.

8/10
Quality movie. The spirit is fecking scary as well, as opposed to mostly annoying which so often is the case in these kind of films.
