Stoke closing on Manchester United defender Phil Jones?

Stoke assistant manager Mark Bowen has confirmed they are interested in signingManchester United defender Phil Jones .

The 24-year-old has been left out of Jose Mourinho's match day squad for the last three games against Leicester, Bournemouth and Southampton.

And with just over a week to go before the the transfer window shuts, Bowen has admitted Stoke are keen to bring Jones to the Bet365 Stadium.

He told the Stoke Sentinel : "I remember Sam Allardyce talking about him when he broke through and said he was the new Duncan Edwards.

"He did well as a youngster, got the big move, but it hasn't worked out for him there.

"I don't know how close we are or how far down the line it's gone.

"He's played the majority of his career at centre half, but in his younger days he went into midfield as well.

"I don't know what's gone wrong, but he's gone from even a player Fergie was talking about as being someone who could have been one of the greats.

"But we have a bit of reputation for bringing players like that into this set up and then thriving. Fingers crossed, something may happen."

How about you feckers open transfermarkt and see how much he's been injured. Add questionable defending ability et voila.

What's his contract situation? If it's 3 or more years, I'd probably be tempted to send him out on loan.

We need a reliable back up this seasob, and unfortunately his fitness record makes him far from reliable.

Would like him to go on loan and see if he can stay healthy for a full season

he should thank his gods that he's not a horse.

No loan, he has had enough time. We should recoup some cash while we still can. Can probably get a fair bit as well with the new TV deal and him being English.

If we loan him he will probably spend 60% of the season injured, and we will never be able to sell him to them.

Would be good if we can get decent money for him.

He should be sold. But I think we should look for English talents because there will not be a lot in our squad. Carrick will retire and Rooney might/should be sold.

Harsh - injury plagued, but not a bad player in himself to deserve that kind of hate.

What hate? He's a crook who has basically been stealing a leaving for the past few seasons. Need to be more ruthless and get rid of these kind of players.

He is clearly the 4th choice CB now, I am not sure how much he would play anyway.

The trouble with injury prone players is that you don't know when they will feck off to the treatment room again. They may pick an injury when you need them the most.

It may have been worth to keep Jones if he was a great defender. Aston Villa used to do something similar to Mcgrath. However Jones is not very good in defending either.

We should sell him.

Nothing to do with his performances, but he is always injured.

Time for him to get a fresh start somewhere else.

Im not sure whether we should be selling him to one of our most bitter rivals though.

Yes please. His United career needs to be brought to an end. We can't keep giving chance after chance after chance to players; it's that sentimentality that brought us so many problems recently. "Insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results"

as revenge? I can imagine the scene. They sign the contract and Woody calls Stoke owners and say 'United send their regards'

Best options for the three parts.

He was very good his first two seasons (under Fergie), and disapointed on the pitch and in the nursery after. He needs to leave in order to get another CB and maybe promote the younger one.

I like him, he puts everything on the pitch, but to be honest he didn't progressed much. I was worried when Van Gaal sold Evans cause he was better than Jones. Maybe Jones can have flashes during games and Evans can be bullied sometimes, but during a season I do trust Evans more than Jones.

So selling him to Stoke would be benefit for him. He'll be a good partnership to Shawcross when fit

£10m with a sell-on clause and we will have done well. Think we'll get it as well.

Shhh..... They might have scouts lurking around these forums. Their ignorance is our bless

Lol exactly. It's painfully obvious why his career has stalled. He just doesn't want to admit they're taking a risk on an injury plagued player.

For some reason I am hesitant about the idea of selling him. I don't know why because I don't really rate him and he is always injured. Maybe some part of me is still holding onto that little glimmer of 'potential' he supposedly has. I would prefer we sell Rojo before him I think.

Finally, should have gone a long time ago, better late than never.

I suspect we will be keen to move him on for some sort of financial return while he is fit. If he got injured on loan we'll probably end up stuck with him until the end of his contract.

All of mine are Mark, all of mine are. I think it's at the stage now with him where he has had too many injuries and when he does play he seems prone to a under hit back pass or a professional foul. Personally I'd rather see TFM or Axel get a chance at this stage but that's just me.
