Just so I don´t misunderstand you, you are talking about a 4-3-3 formation with a 3 man center midfield and Kagawa as the offensive spear head of the CM, right?

This could actually work, if he gets enough defensive cover from the other two. Kagawa´s least impressive ability is his tackling, both defensive and offensive. As AM he finds a way to compensate that, because his enourmous mobility and anticipation allows him to actually foresee and evade 1v1 situations. He has an extreme good eye for space and likes to push into it. That makes him such a good player in the hole, because he finds spaces even in positions, where the opposing defense is the thickest.

However, in a CM without enough defensive cover or just one partner (in a 4-2-3-1) he is actually forced to take tackles or otherwise he rips a huge hole in their own defensive formation. That is why he is wasted in a two men midfield and IMO a worse option than Cleverly or Anderson.

We'll have to be flexible and see how we can best use Kagawa without compromising our strengths elsewhere.

Let's begin with the assumption that Rooney is outta here. I'm not so sure now that's going to happen, but it's a better bet he'll go than he'll stay. At this point only Chelsea seem to be serious about Rooney and if they are, I'd like to rip Mata out of Jose's grip. And if we do, we may come out the winners in that deal. But I digress.

With Roo gone, I see no problem with Kagawa in the middle of the 3 in a 4231, provided it's Fellaini and Carrick behind him -- NOT the woeful, pie-eating Ando or the slight-of-build Cleverley. Maybe if Fletcher returns to glorious form. But you're right that if Kagawa is forced to contribute defensive duties he's not the man for this job. He wouldn't be as reckless as Scholes in the tackle, but probably about as effective.

I can see Moyesey experimenting with a 433 against weaker opposition this season with Kags in the middle of the orchestra, as you rightly sniffed out. Who knows what would come of it, but I'd like to see or new manager try a few different ideas out to see what gets the most of the squad.

If we did bring in Fellaini to partner with Carrick in the back 2 of the 5 man midfield, I don't see why we wouldn't allow Kagawa to roam about directing traffic up the pitch. Assuming, of course, our wingers are doing their job -- which for the most part they didn't last season.

It's a shame Rooney hasn't embraced what is so painfully obvious, that with his ability and his deteriorating ability to accelerate past defenders he really would be ideally suited to this role. Fergie knew this day would come to pass and picked up Kagawa a season before Roo went into "I want to be King" meltdown. At any rate, Kagawa is here and he's already shown us great stuff as a last third passer and scorer of tidy goals. I'd like to see whether he can hit the kind of shot that Modric scored on us last season. If Kags can add that club to his bag, oh my fukking God.

Not a single mention of Cesc's name in this Cesc post. Poor old Cesc.

Unless you know something I don't, Cesc aint coming to Old Trafford and continued speculation about his future as a United man seems a bit daft. I'm just a poster with too much time on my hands, but I have seen absolutely nothing to suggest Fabregas is actually unhappy being a member of the Barcelona squad and wants to come to United and play for David Moyes. The only issue that has arisen has been a question of playing time, but that's just not enough to go on to conclude Cesc wants out of the club.

But would I love to see us pick up Cesc Fabregas? Of course!

Agree on pretty much everything, but "Kags" is a weird nickname. Sounds like a corn flakes brand or something.

But of course he isn't. Close the thread.

First line.

"I did not speak with him but I know Cesc is 100 per cent here."

Great, now I don't need to read the rest.

Who knows more?

Manchester United who may well be in contact with his agent.... speculation of course... or Song who hasn't spoken to him for a while?

We all know Cesc intended to fight for his place next year and went public to that effect...... then Neymar arrived.

If Man Utd did succeed in destabilizing Cesc and convincing him that he was unloved at Barca, he'd be back at Arsenal in a flash. Do carry on.

The thing is, even if you're right and we're set to go into a tailspin this season, you lot wouldn't be in a position to take advantage. Why would he waste the best years of his career pissing around at Arsenal?

Back to mediocrity? Why would he?

Oh I see, loyalty. The same loyalty that made him fight tooth and nail to get away from Arsene's stalker-like grip.

More chance of him joining Arsenal than us imo. He won't leave anyway so it's all the same.

I can understand people who say he's more likely to stay at Barca than join us, but why on Earth would he go to Arsenal over us. And please don't cite loyalty.

A sky sports poster claims that Arsenal's right to match clause is set at a fixed 25m. I haven't seen this mentioned anywhere else.

Could Arsenal potentially spend £75m this summer? I mean, is it possible? I think Arsene would have a coronary.

Storey throws the hand grenade, then retreats. :D

Can't wait for Cesc to turn his back on the French bagpuss.

Arsene has never had a problem spending money - he just hasn't had any. This year we've got about £60M extra TV money and £40M commercial. Spend, spend, spend.
If the 'right' players are available at 'value' prices.

Destabilize? By putting in an official bid for him?:lol:

If anything Barca have destabilized Cesc themselves, by opting to consider our offers despite Cesc stating his obvious desire to stay where he is.

I would have thought it was far more destabilizing to poach a 16yr old boy from his hometown club before he even signs a professional contract. Mercilessly tearing him from the only life he had ever known, then forcing him to play talisman and carry your sorry outfit for at least the last 5 years of his time there. All the while enduring ever increasing mediocrity and stagnation amidst a relentless torrent of empty promises. Before finally, dreams shattered upon his realization that arsenal were in fact crap and going nowhere, Arsenal then showed their gratitude by unashamedly complicating his liberation home with extortionate financial demands.

Yes, you may claim he loves your club and enjoyed his time there, but remember it is quite common for impressionable young abductees to become infatuated with their captors, often even sympathizing with their unfortunate predicament. Is he still emotionally traumatized enough to attempt an incomprehensible return to Arsenal? Hope not for his sake, but you never know, you did manage to repeatedly deceive him before with your fraudulent claims of ambition, and some people are simply gluttons for punishment.
