Television Game of Thrones TV Series | Season 2 | NO book talk!!

I didn't think the episode was as amazing as many people have claimed, certainly not the best of the series. The siege was pretty standard stuff I thought, orgasmic explosion aside.

Enjoyed The Hound, Bronn and Cersei though.

I hope now Tywin is there, he removes the twat Joffrey from the throne. It will be interesting to see what Robb does now that the Lannister's have firmed up their control of King's Landing and added more troops.

Really looking forward to next week's finale but I hope they don't spend more than 5 minutes in Qarth.

I would have guessed that Stanis was going to take King's Landing, except with Tyrion being a main character I didn't think he would die, so that left me uncertain. We've built up the Lannisters so much, it would have been a bit early to knock them off their perch.

But now I really wonder where we're going with Stanis's character. Surely that's not the end of his threat, we really have no idea what % of his army has been destroyed, but he seems to have gone from the clear favorite to the underdog to win the throne game. His failure will surely cause a crisis of confidence among the 'lord of light' fanatics, but that smoke monster isn't going to be killed easily, I'm guessing.

Speaking of the smoke monster, where's it gone?

It was able to infiltrate Renly's camp and kill him, so why not Kings Landing and kill Joffrey?

Stuff like that is really stupid and bugs me.

You've got a mythical invisible assassin that can kill specific targets at will but you decide to attack with ladders and swords, and let Joffrey off the hook.

Basically, it was a very poor rip off... And the imp will survive, there's no chance they'll get rid of the only decent character in the whole series. I really hate the one dimensional characters... I don't know Maybe I'm not as easily as pleased as its legion of fans.

Maybe...just maybe I'm getting too old for this crap.

God no. No way he's dead. In fact the Lannisters are the most interesting family in the series by some distance. They essentially fill the villain role but they're not just evil for the sake of it. I'd say they're fairly mutli dimensional.

A series focusing entirely on the Starks would be quite dull, granted.

It's no Deadwood but I don't think it's as poor as you make out.

Melisandre was under Renly's camp, on land. If she wanted to kill Joffrey with it she would've had to pop the thing out of her when landing on the beach whilst been pounded by massive rocks and fire arrows.

So the smoke monster was a one-time use only thing, a bit like a bonus weapon in a computer game?

She no longer has control or possession of it?

Tywin can't do that. He is meant to be the King's Hand.

I do understand some of Spoony's complaints even if I thought the episode was fantastic.
Also those complaints IMO go towards the source material instead of the TV show execution of it.

There is no reason what so ever that Tywin won't send a message to the King's landing that he is coming to help them. Their whole strategy would have changed with that information.

Yeah in such cases, it is not just about capturing a kingdown but having a legitimate claim to rule. Joffery's obvious one is that he is supposed to be the King's son.

You said to use it at Kings Landing, she'd need to pop the thing out of her when landing on the beach.

Why would she need to pop the thing out of her when it's already born?

It evaporated once it killed Renly, so it's not there anymore.

There's no point trying to comprehend it, it's fantasy, shit like this happens all the time, they're hardly going to give us a logical reason that's within the world of science now are they?

Joffrey's done feck all for the Lannister's cause and was shown to be a coward in their moment of truth when Stannis attacked. Tyrion already treats him like shit and I don't think Tywin will be too impressed by his behaviour.

It's not going to happen as Joffrey's got the 'right' to be King but I'd like to see the cnut embarassed.

When I saw it had evaporated I assumed it was just going back to Melisandre. Didn't really catch it was a one time thing. Explains why we didn't see it again though, I didn't really like the idea of a GoT version of the LotR undead army so I'm glad.

He's the only decent character? Rubbish, the show is full of good characters, he's just the best one so far.

I don't think we are easily pleased, it seems you are extremely hard to please Spoons.

The annoying thing now is all I can think about is how awesome it's going to be when/if the Dragons get huge, then I think how fecking long it will be until it happens.

No no..I've actually enjoyed the series. Just makes me chuckle how fans take criticism...very personally.

I don't take it as a personal insult that you see it differently, but you also can't expect everyone to agree with your views either, and sometimes individual points, like all the characters being rubbish, might be challenged.

Shits getting too popular and good.....so people will overblow tiny things to criticise, Spoony always quick to do these kind of things, in fact I expect it of him at this point. Let him be.

fecking amazing to have this and Mad Men together though(and then Breaking Bad coming straight off the back of these ending), takes you back to the golden period of HBO with endless classics like The Wire, Sopranos, SFU etc.

Exactly. Arya, Bronn and Tywin spring to mind, and there's plenty more.

Hell, Joffrey is a fantastic villain, I've never seen so much hate float around on the net for a villain in a show before.

"We've had vicious kings, and we've had idiot kings...but I don't know if we've ever been cursed with a vicious idiot for a king!"
―Tyrion Lannister

Why is Joffrey the worst character?

I mean, he's supposed to be a total little cnut that you despise and that's the general consensus, he's a fantastic villain and very well acted. People don't hate him because he's badly written or annoying (i.e. Skylar in BB, Betty in Mad Men), they hate him because he's brilliantly written and you're supposed to.

Spoony, in your opinion, what is the greatest piece of media ever made? Like a film or tv show.

It's an easy character to create.

The premise of the character is easy, the execution on screen to be so convincing isn't. He plays the role perfectly because people hate him, which is exactly how it should be.

For a fantasy the sheer depth in numbers of characters make the relative depth of the actual persona's of the characters a fair achievement by Martin and this is where HBO have shined, really developing Arya and Tyrion etc., on the screen.

Exactly. After the first season the autor of the books sent a letter to actor who portrays Joofrey saying "Congratulations, everyone hates you". Joffrey is portrayed perfectly, he was written to be annoying and to be hated from everybody. I never wanted a character dead more than him. So, here job is done brilliantly.

It's an easy character to create.

I'm pretty sure you could say that about any villain ever created. You could say that The Terminator is just a dude who doesn't talk killing shit, and Darth Vadar is just a guy in a cape with a breathing problem, just how Joffrey is simply a sadistic spoilt shit. Point being it's not how easy is it to create them, or write them, but it's how they are depicted and how they make you feel that turn them into great characters. Joffrey obviously has a big impact on the majority of the audience, which is why I would say he is a great character.
